>>94397273>TQWhy would it? There aren't any Foundations products for beginners.
>>94397307>There aren't any Foundations products for beginners.>Literal beginner box>Literal starter collection>Entire set is designed to become cheap as it will be printed to hell for 5 yearsyes, yes there are anon
Anyone got a decently functional Slivers list? Mine never seems to get going, I wanna compare notes before I spend money upgrading.
What are good effects to get multiple uses out of Uvilda's ability in a single turn? Also what spells would be fun to chain together for massive advantage?
>TQIt did when it was announced but the standard-legal UB bullshit convinced me the other way around.
>>94397370I dunno man, I've had a lot of Sliver decks but I wouldn't have ever called them functional.
>>94397273>TQYeah I played elves, got manhandled by dimir removal tribal and promptly went back to edh
>>94397338I was going to dunk on you, but got dunked on instead. Why the FUCK are they calling them Foundations Jumpstart Decks when there's a product called Foundations Jumpstart and the Beginner Box only has cards from the normal Foundations set?
>>94397338>Entire set is designed to become cheap as it will be printed to hell for 5 years99% of the cards won't be played in 2 years because if they don't power creep those cards how are they going to sell sets?
>>94397418Poor naming choice and cards in the actual jumpstart packs aren't standard legal
>>94397273>Did Foundations actually convince someone you know to try Standard?I don't feel like visiting 70 shops in a 50 mile radius to find a shop that does standard. Mine does not.
>>94397419By putting the power crept shit in non-standard legal product.
>>94397370The most functional you can build it is by putting overlord at the helm and tutoring for morophon asap. After that you can do things like fetching sliver queen and basal sliver for all kinds of combos. Effects like pic related make it stronger. If this sounds boring that's because it kinda is. However, slivers allow you to run like multiple different commanders depending on your mood, so if gets boring you can always swap your commander with any other legendary sliver or morophon.
>>94397273>Did Foundations actually convince someone you know to try Standard?Yeah, it was a good starting point to jump back in
>>94397427I knew that, which is why I thought the Jumpstart decks in the beginner pack weren't legal
>>94397458Then how do you sell standard sets?If you say just make cards bad for standard but good for other formats then you have the issue of people stuck with a format that doesn't changeFoundations is great but most cards will be not played in two years
>>94397577They will be.
>>94397273>TQYes, one person is excited to build 60 card Krenko, and one wants to do life gain with the combo vampire.
What are some good wincons for mono blue? Building Eluge right now and aside from just making him unblockable and hitting someone in the head repeatedly, I'm not sure how else to win. There's thoracle and lab man, but those don't feel like actually deserved wins.
First time buying a custom deckbox. Aaron Cain. Ebony and walnut burl with wendge trim.
>>94397717Nice!
>>94397717Neat. I like to buy weird unique deckboxes. I have a TARDIS box, Ghostbusters Ghost trap box, and a box shaped like a haunted house.

>>94397717Nice. Now let's see Paul Allen's deckbox.
>>94397767>Marina Vendrell>it’s just some generic anime girlpathetic
>>94397950I found Bateman's. Apparently "return some tapes" is code for "play commander."
>>94397796I was one mana short of winning and then realized I had a treasure halfway through my opponents next turn.
>>94398125There's no greater pain than realizing you lost because of a mistake you made
>>94397370First Sliver snowballs like a motherfucker, i have a friend i have played probably over 100 games with who has used every single legendary sliver as his commander and he settled on the First as the most efficient. First Sliver deploys a huge force onto the board really fast and is also good at rebuilding if he ever gets wiped. He also has profane tutor as the only 0cmc nonland card in the deck, so he gets to cascade into it every single game in order to tutor Hivelord and make his board indestructible ASAP

https://www.moxfield.com/decks/fc8R4W8B602VugesRPK-CANeed help making cuts for this. Think I may have too many counterspells and removal, and not sure how good hard control is in 4 player. Added a bunch of theft effects because they seem kind of funny, especially if I steal commanders.
>>94397273I tried standard a while ago, it was bad, though foundations did have a lot of cards I liked.
>>94398363I saw the commander, closed the link, but saw the deck name as it was closing and opened the link again.Blatant Thievery feels like it gets you the three best permanents in play, but that's only if they're evenly distributed and none of them are yours. You've got a lot of piddly one drops to make Eluge unblockable and I don't really think that's relevant. Run Thieves' Passage I guess but hitting people with a 6/6 commander isn't worth a piece of cardboard. Aquitect's Will is cute but really not worth it. I get you want your attack triggers for flood counters but running some artifact tutors with things like Dolmen Gate seems more reasonable. Quicksilver Fountain would very much be worth it because even if you end up losing all your progress it fucks with people and rebuilds quick. I'd cut basically all your flicker shit on similar grounds. Counterspells are just as good at stopping removal and far more versatile. Overall I'd cut back on ways to help Eluge get flood counters and have a few more splashy spells to take advantage of them being 1-3 mana cheaper. You also need to think about how your deck actually wins, because right now you're on operation "beat three men to death with a fish" and I played enough Scout in TF2 to know that's a tough sell.
>>94398449>right now you're on operation "beat three men to death with a fish" and I played enough Scout in TF2 to know that's a tough sellFuck, that got me. Yeah, I don't really have a wincon right now, I asked for suggestions earlier in the thread but didn't get much. Kind of why I'm going for more theft effects, at the very least I can stop other people from doing silly shit. Any clue what I could do to win? Only options I can see right now is just combos, but I hate combo wins.
Thinking of building this guy. What would be some good things to throw in?I'm aware he's an un-card. My pod is fine with it.
>>94398481shit that lets you make more copies of midnight clock, ideally cards that are noncreatures. Saheeli's artistry, cackling counterpart, mechanized production, etc.
>>94398474Unfortunately combos are the easiest way to go over the top of whatever other people are doing. If you get enough card advantage from casting ponders and mana leaks while Archmage Emeritus or Archmage of Runes are in play then you'll be able to brute-force it after a while. Token spam with Metallurgic Summons/Shark Typhoon/Murmuring Mystic/Talrand can also get you there, but they suffer from being unable to do anything on their own and not feeding into each other. My closest deck to this is Kalamax which is a mix of izzet spellslinger and pump spell tribal trying to beat people to death with Kalamax. I guess worst case you can run Psychic Spiral and a few other ways to shuffle your graveyard into your library and then literally card draw people to death. Lacks panache but a win's a win.
>>94398502Yeah, guess so. I cut out most of the crap you said, I need one more cut. Any suggestions? I'll start looking for some kind of mill combo as well, since that seems at least more interactive than just spamming extra turn spells.
>>94398363You should add "the flood of mars"
>>94398578No, it's shit. It's slow, easy to remove, and doesn't do much on its own. Wasting the attack triggers on pumping my own lands is a waste of the flood as well, and if they can't attack for any reason, then they're just a waste of a slot.
>>94397469My brother runs Overlord and stupid shit like pic related

Is this a good concept for a deck?Lotr elves, lots of scrying, put stuff on the bottom of the deck until you find the One Ring. Get a lot of burden counters on it, digging further into your deck until you hit a Donate or similar card, then give the Ring away with 9 or 10 counters on it.Is this good/bad? unfun due to lack of counterplay and unsuited for casual among friends? I'm new to mtg.
>>94398779Thank you.

>>94397796Congrats
Anyone play pic related in Henzie? I'm unsure if it's a fun one to slot in. In the case I draw a decent hand but get him as my 5-drop, I can blitz gitrog on turn 3 and sac Henzie, drawing 3 and getting 1,75 lands on average on the board as ramp. This seems passable at best. However if I draw it anywhere later, I can possibly blitz a creature alongside it, sac the blitzed creature to it, netting me an extra draw on top of the sac value, which'd be a great ramp + draw effect. Also not sure about Greater Good and Evolutionary Leap. I feel like I rarely get value out of Evolutionary Leap, and Greater Good always seems too expensive when I could be blitzing another creature
>>94399073>Greater Good and Evolutionary LeapI like birthing pod or birthing rituallife's legacy is a one off version of greater good but cheaper.Tarrian's Journal is okay and for once the sorcery speed restriction doesn't matter
>>94397378untap auras I guess
>>94399073Aclazotz and Ojer Kaslem are nice pseudo ramp and potential creatures later
>>94397378Wrangle so you untap it

>>94399140I have slotted Birthing Ritual and Life's Legacy already. I've never actually drawn Birthing Ritual somehow, but I trust it. Missed Tarrian's Journal, that's a pretty good card.>>94399208Ojer Kaslem has been serving me well. Aclazotz is pretty good, but I'm not really going into discard apart from Archon of Cruelty, which I feel weakens Aclazotz a good bit.
>>94398658Opponent's creatures, to use the "gain control of target sliver effect". Amoeboid changeling works too.
I really like playing archetypes outside of their respective colors. So far I have mono-blue stompy, what else should I build? Is mono-black burn any viable? Any other ideas anons?

But if you're anything past your early twenties, it's on both of you for creating these frustrations.Your friend should've been more mature and, probably begrudgingly, accept that he's not as clever as he imagined himself to be, and maybe ask around for advice & help. And despite writing it yourself, you seem like the bigger immature asshole here.>Crush friend and friends in games (assuming the other friends don't enjoy this for some reason)>Not offering your friend any support with deckbuilding & piloting>Not simply telling your friend he might've gotten a big head and he should chill down, and then offering out to help him with that>Stating you hate the game, yet for some reason still playing it?You're adults, right? If you give a shit about your friends and maybe enjoying this game, communicate your grievances and slights. Tell your friend that his behavior was frustrating and admit that you weren't exactly supportive either. Recognize where you both went wrong and try to build towards having actual fun in the game and with each other. If you need any advice on this, feel free to ask.

>>94400491>I should have clarified I was told this is a bad card and I'm not sure why?It enters tapped, so it's slow even for a colorless source. Then you have to pay 2 to get two lands that enter tapped so it's EXTRA slow and on top of that, it's not even any two, it's two basics of one type. It's just not very good. I would rather have a standard basic than Myriad, even in a three color deck.
>>94400357yes as long ws you accept after you win once people will focus your shrines even when you are not the treat. Also you can use the aura thief ± enchanted evening combo, wich feels great if you pull it out, btw dont use tutors you will buy a lot of cards anyway.
>>94400491If you don't know why, you aren't playing in situations you need to worry about it. Keep playing games. Most players are bad at Magic so worrying about suboptimal card choices is just needless anxiety.

>>94400558so you have had no imagination for over 25 years. it's very disheartening to see someone not improve ever

They're on the simplistic side of an already simple strategy. I eschew Changelings, at least, and I intend to replace as many new-style, one-sided Slivers as I can with classic-style, affects-everyone Slivers because that's how they're supposed to be.
>>94400441Why do you think first sliver is better than overlord? Especially when overlord lets you fetch morophon which makes most of your deck free.
>>94400620that's FIRE for you. no drawbacks, all upside, all the time
>>94400620Don't listen to him, this general is very combo focused. If you're wanting to win by damage through slivers just do that and put in what ramp/interaction/recursion/overruns you need to make it go
>>94400655I don't use Morophon, personally, because I don't use the Changelings. And when I did use Overlord, on more than one occasion it got stolen by an opponent who then used it to steal anything I played. I enjoyed the randomness the cascades more, but even so, I'm not using First Sliver, either.
>>94400729Fair, I hadn't really considered how much of a steal target he is.

>>94399534try to recreate a 60 card deck that you're fond of from first principles, so that the synergies are mechanical and build towards a gameplan, instead of surface level value pile synergies.that or try building a secret commander deck, where your goal is to find a card in the 99 and you build around synergies with that card, instead of your commander.

Why are MtG players allergic to text?
>>94400944 witnessedit's the same reason why they keep building tribal deckslow IQ
>>94400756I am currently projecting. It's probably not combo specifically but the general is very much biased towards faster games. Typically when anons here say they want to do a greater than 4-5 mana commander or some niche tribe the response they get is the game will be over by then or combo player will pop off. >>94402236Aetherize looks nasty. Big fan.>Interaction is keyAgreed. When my group first started, everyone (excluding 1 guy) was new. When we eventually got beyond buying a precon and later upgrading it, one guy made an Arbaaz Mir boros deck that flickered a lot. Had a lot of protection, so Timmy strategies didn't really fare well. Timmy decks would hit each other, while the boros guy managed to snag a staggering amount of games before the group as a whole learned some basic threat assessment. Now, a while later, our decks actually pack a good amount of interaction and it's made games way more fun. I've made an Ivy Gleeful Spellthief deck and jammed like 20 pieces of interaction and a strong amount of draw in it. Looking forward to testing the waters for how much interaction is too much.

Wanting to make a deck with custom art I'll get printed on a proxy order themed around Warriors/Berserkers/etc themed around Warhammer Chaos Warriors (I'm fuckin baffled why 40k was chosen when frankly the Realm of Chaos and Warriors fits MTG planar lore far more). I'm thinking of going with Yidris Maelstrom Wielder as the commander for cascade, but what's a good way to go about making a thematic warrior tribal, or at least warriors, giants, horrors, etc - evil fighty things. I already turned my actual 40k precon into a Demon Tribal (hits like a truck frankly), but I'm not really used to tribals built around not spamming commander damage or poison.

>>94406755The real problem is that in non-commander formats is that setup just isn't worth it because red deck wins, so you never actually get to "do the thing" nearly as often as you'd think
>>94406755None of this applies to 60 card formats anon.
>>94406304I remember you anon. Did you make any progress with making your own deck, or adjusting your precon to stand a better chance against the copy/clone deck?>CounterRun more interaction. Learn the key pieces that make the deck work. Read the cards to do so. And then interact with them via whatever ways fit in your own deck
>>94406741why would you play an overrun without some other creatures either tho. seems like a win more to me too>>94406726you flash the blast-furnace hellkite at combat/endstep
NEW>>94406796>>94406796>>94406796
>>94406783Playing an overun does something if you have an established board. Tapping out for 6 and playing Doubling Season does literally nothing even if you have a board, then your buddy goes "uhh yeah in response to you trying to make tokens or whatever i disenchant your doubling season"
>>94406763non-commander formats are just removal piles with a single threat today anyway
>>94406747>why would you play with shitty craterhoof instead of actual craterhoofMaybe he doesn't own a Craterhoof and doesn't want to proxy one or buy a real one. Maybe he's purposefully building on a budget. Maybe he only wants to make paper decks out of the cards he already has. Maybe Craterhoof is fucking boring, predictable shit. There are plenty of reasons to play the suboptimal cards.
>>94406804No they aren't?
>>94406801>dies to removal so badbrilliant
>>94406818it's more fragile and does nothing, yes
>Rite of the Dragontimmy is already at 1/3 the price it was a week before release>despite being in multiple e-celeb “top in the 99” listsFeels good bros. It’s going to a buck fifty. Sadly people’s faith in random retards online who got popular by personality rather than being good at games will not see such a market crash
>>94406778so they design self sufficient cards because they don't affect other formats? I'm confused
>>94406818That is in no way what the post anon made is saying, you're retarded.
>>94406801>playing Doubling Season does literally nothing even if you have a boardwell that's just flat out wrong
>>94406825They design cards for limited/standard and 40-60 card decks with up to 4 of a kind. All your complaints about FIRE only apply to the way commander is played, not how 60 card 1v1 formats are played. This is in no way confusing, you're just retarded
>>94406832>play doubling season>it enters and does nothingVs>play overrun effect>it buffs all your creatures and you swing outNo it's 100% correct.
>>94406840>They design cards for limited/standardok that's funny
>>94406832Anon i'm not saying the card doesn't have an effect. I'm saying is you cast the card and it does nothing when you cast it. Which means unless you already have a great board that's shitting out multiple counters and tokens each turn (already winning) it does nothing until you untap.Vs overrun, you have a board of 10 tokens, but no token engine, you buff up and swing out
>>94406846you might be thinking of a boardstate that has no synergy with doubling season the turn it comes down, which is not where or how that card is played
>>94406854if you have 10 tokens you are already winning too in a deck with overrun strat
>>94406872Wat
>>94406872yeah it's easier to cast a few spells in early turns to build up a board then cast (usually more expensive) value engine pieces to make doubling season work, while overrun just relies on having creatures
>>94406751steal other peoples finishers probably
>>94406751The secret is to focus on permanents' theft and mostly ignore spell-casting stealing. And to not overload on theft spells, focusing on the most efficient ones and then banking on sac outlets and blink to repeat the process is often cheaper and more impactful, even if it also makes you more fragile, as you are reliant on a more convoluted setup.
>>94407269
>>94407273Nice pull
>>94404390Doesnt he hang out with his dad on weekends?
>>94407726Thanks, I got it to swing once, it was better as a blocker for me
>>94406415Looks like an annoying discard commander.
>>94407727>>94404390>>94404170Yes, I hang out with my dad on Saturdays/Sundays and then come home. Watched some college ball on saturday while sorting my booster box from Foundations and eating food, then today me, my mom, and my dad just watched the Bills shut down Kansas City. Shit was cash, out of the games we saw, I predicted (guessed) the outcome of 4/6 of them. I went for the Bears, the Steelers, Bills, Lions, Patriots, and the Vikings. Admittedly, my favorite teams are Steelers, Lions, and Bills so those were the only ones I was invested in.Now that I'm home, I'm gonna be working on a new deck to start filling out a new slot in my roster, Liesa, Shroud of Dusk. Lifegin + Angel tribal, aiming for a bit lower power than a Giada-led deck but she'll be in the 99 since I pulled one from my Foundations box.https://www.archidekt.com/decks/10132693/angels_of_duskThis is the preliminary list of just stuff from my Foundations box + a Whip of Erebos I had laying around in Coram and wasn't really using.
>>94398481Un cards with a black border are legal dumpass.
>>94409482Only sometimes, and you have just demonstrated exactly why the concept is a bad idea
