Post models, gentlemen. What're you working on this Christmas?

XV8 Crisis suits and XV25 Stealth suits. My brother in law wanted to give me that nudge to start my second army because I've been talking primarily about Tau pretty much any time we've discussed Warhammer lore in the past couple years.

>>94666557
Brother, your checkerboards are way too neat for two reasons
1. Orks shouldn't know what a straight line is
2. You're making the rest of us look bad
seriously fantastic work, I'm jelly
>>
>>94666572
I find it helps to pencil in the grid lines before making the checkers. Lots of cleanup work afterwards, too.
Also, Orks know damn well what a straight line is. It's the fastest way between you and the guy that needs a good choppin'.

New Deldar player here, looking to get into the army after getting a double CP with my Christmas bonus. Also want to try out some of the Harlequin units because they might be fun to paint - is something like this a decent list with the new clussy detachment?

>Solitaire
>2 Archons (Conductor, Archraider)
>Death Jester
>2x10 Kabalite Warriors
>2x10 Incubi
>1x5 Mandrakes
>1x5 Dark Lance Scourges
>Voidweaver
>2 Ravagers
>2 Venoms
>2 Raiders

>Chronos

Incubi + Archons in the Raiders, Kabalites split in the Venoms with some holding the backline. Voidweaver is just to farm pain tokens with battleshock, Solitaire is a suicide bomber to kill a character early, Jester is just there to flip the wager
>>

I designer made some divisive design decisions on the new Fulgrim, between the more fish-like serpent tail and the body horror mutilated section. Makes me excited to see the regular models.

They definitely could have gone further, but it is a big deviation from the standard design language of Fulgrim himself. Really it's something that only fluff and much older art has even been part of the EC design language. That Slaanesh Herald with the tendon-harp is about the closest we've seen out of GW before. That they would bring this element to Fulgrim makes me think there's a decent chance we'll see them take it further in something with less baggage. Maybe that possessed/elite melee unit that's been rumoured?

Possibly, we might see some EC head options that are one to one with some cenobite designs, like the Chatterer type head design. Or maybe someone at GW knows about the Even Horizon being a 40k movie meme and makes some heads inspired by that movie.

Just comparing it to the 30k model, the back fleshy alien tubes above the corset stiched into his skin is more body horror than the flayed skin 40k fulgrim has imo

Good man, I got a battery powered drill last year and that’s all I wanted. I still got gifted a stormsurge by the GF’s younger brother this year but it fills out the 2k points for my tau which is nice I guess. No fucking idea when I’m gonna build it. So far haven’t recieved anything else hobby related this year. Missed Christmas with most of the family though cus the GF and I have been dealing with Nurgle’s early present. Now that we’re on our feet again we’re gonna do our rounds and do the exchanges we’ve delayed.

nah he's not me, the Horus death was meant to be the one non mudane death to compare to the other mundane deaths of getting your head cut off or stabbed. Is the laer blade even that magical, its just a daemon weapon dying to one is as mundane as dying to a bloodletter stabbing you. You're still just getting stabbed. Konrad let himself be killed he was still killed in a mundane manner (if hes really dead).

Vulkan pops up by himself within a couple of hours. Guilliman needs a stasis field and Eldar waifu to not die. Lion takes 10k years of napping in a forest dimension to heal and visibly ages during that time.

Curze and Ferrus and Alpharius get their heads hacked off and don't come back.

>>
>>94667720
This works with some models
You could probably sell Azrael as a generic DA captain or as a custom paint scheme successor chapter master/captain
But nobody's going to look at Guilliman with red armor and not immediately see it as Guilliman with red armor unless you do some extensive kitbashing (and in the end he'll still look like a primarch or something on par with one due to size)
Maybe I'm more annoyed by primarchs being in game more than anything

>ignores the height requirement as well
Autists are gonna refuse to play or screech about the height requirements in the name of "fair play."
I remember seeing a scylla light tank STL (sentinel proxy about as high as a chimera tank) that's creator eventually made a high 80ml cylinder base for it with a joke description. My guess is players complained about height requirements and so the creator jokingly made a solution to the tank height problem.
Either way I find the height requirement to be bad form as it stifles ideas and creativity when people create a "box of boundaries" that the model must "fit" into. Basing size is understandable but I feel that height requirements is a step too far.
>>
>>94667828
I try to get roughly close to size requirements (including height) but I'm not going to worry too much about it being a perfect match
>>
>>94667828
I agree completely, not to mention you could always put a flag on whatever it is that exactly meets height just to piss off autists.

Genuinely, the part about human cattle camps baffles me whenever it comes up. Orks have a self-contained eco-system of squigs, grots, and edible fungus. CSM with a splash of DG, TS, and WE models as you please.

barring that, deathguard probably has the best army in terms of unit variety for both hobbying and battlefield role.

world eaters are fun unga bunga but incredibly one note and often their meta (and somehow poor internal balance despite only having 3 units) leads them to just spam a single unit making them hyper boring to hobby and very predictable on the table.

thousand sons have slightly more variety than world eaters but much less still than deathguard. they also have a tendancy to rely super heavily on their sorcerers to get anything done, and the troops and tanks just kind of feel like afterthoughts needed to fill slots while magnus and his cabal do all the heavy lifting.

> ‘Childish,’ Guilliman sighed, gesturing to the burning, dying city. ‘Does it really come down to this? So pitiably childish.’
>
> ‘Childish? The people of your world named you Great One. The people of mine called me Slave.’ Angron stepped closer, chainswords revving harder. ‘Which one of us landed on a paradise of civilisation to be raised by a foster father, Roboute? Which one was given armies to lead after training in the halls of the Macraggian high-riders? Which one of us inherited a strong, cultured kingdom?’
>

>
> ‘Listen to your blue-clad wretches yelling of courage and honour, courage and honour, courage and honour. Do you even know the meaning of those words? Courage is fighting the kingdom that enslaves you, no matter that their armies overshadow yours by ten thousand to one. You know nothing of courage. Honour is resisting a tyrant when all others suckle and grow fat on the hypocrisy he feeds them. You know nothing of honour.’

Is there a way for genestealer culstist to take any form of artillery or gun platforms?
>>
>>94668120
Because it is.
There's a reason why Horus Heresy is regarded to be pretty terrible because it just makes lot of the characters, namely the primarchs and Emperor, look like complete retards.
Like Emperor is a good example of this, his characterization depends on whoever is writing him at that current time. Which then makes Emperor's character look like a complete retard who has no idea at best and at worst he looks like he has bipolar disorder seeing how his demeanor swings.

And the main contributor to this problem is that there are like 10+ writers for the HH and every single one of them has their own perfect vision as to how the HH was. Then it is confounded by the fact that there doesn't seem to be any sort of "lore bible" for 40k. Like an internal document for GW and its writers to reference so shit stays consistent.
Also it feels like there's no editorial team at BL, and if there are any they have heads up their asses.
And then this shit is made multiplicately worse by GW, because it has its head up its own ass and it goes with the
>"everything is canon not everything is true"
approach to canon because they DO NOT care because they'll retcon any fluff that is written in 10 years time anyway probably.

It's the feeling I've been getting
I've been listening to audiobooks for them while I work and Horus' fall in the book really annoyed me because of all the established reasons given (Daemon corrupted weapon injury, chaos influence from the word bearers lodge, seeing humanity's future on Davin, him thinking the Emperor was going to Thunder Warrior the primarchs, and his hubris thinking he'd be better than the Emperor) they fixated on his fever dream where daddy didn't have a statue of him next to Sanguinius
And suddenly after an entire novel full of Astartes considering each other to be infallible blood brothers who find the mere thought of lying to one another appalling they eagerly gun each other down
Horus Rising felt like actually decently written setup that fumbled into multiple novels of daddy issues with intermittent moments of good things

That's dumb because as you say, it's already a niche concept. Chaos orks aren't common and the point of TDK is that he's the most notable chaos ork, he gives a face to a concept that otherwise wouldn't exist. There's no reason why chaos orks other than Tuska's boyz can't exist so it's not as if the concept is "locked". Something like chaos stormboyz is lame and is antithetical to the fluff. Stormboyz and blood axes in general may act as mercenaries but they're not the sort to get wrapped up with chaos zealotry to the point they would get corrupted, they're just mercanaries and are practically imperium wehraboos.

Inquisition retinue, you can have a variety from requisitioned deathwatch marines, sisters of battle, psykers, and guardsmen, as well as interrogators and savants, most importantly it gives you a variety of characters from different backgrounds who are united together for the same cause, but aren't necessarily on the same page all the time if you don't want them to be. There's also no limit to how big a retinue can theoretically be, they could just be a small part of an inquisitor lord's staff, or they're a retinue of a radical who's mostly cut off and needs all the help he can get.

You make it out like it's too different arguments when it's arguing the same point. I don't care regardless because my position is win/win, either they're not niche enough that having a special character isn't an issue, or that they are niche so having a special character helps give them representation and makes them feel less random. Literally no one was talking about giving them a full range, it's an irrelevant point and a desperate gambit to win a failing argument.
>>
>>94668519
>either they're not niche enough that having a special character isn't an issue
it is an issue because you're locking them behind the special character and making the universe feel smaller because every time this relatively niche unit is fielded it's always behind the special character, when it's not THAT niche, they're a concept that has existed long before and way beyond that one character.

Anon, not even aos books get cancelled due to lack of sales.
The eldar novels weren't cancelled due to lack of sales but most likely because whatever change in eldar lore they were meant to herald had been recalled.

The timeframe without eldar/elves releases in both 40k and aos would coincide with the hypothesis of a range redesign almost ready to get launched getting scrapped and reworked from the ground up, and it's the same timeframe that got slaanesh out only recently(/soon).
they were planning on killing slaanesh and completely reinventing the eldar.

fortunately they went with conservative approaches to the lore of 40k and we got faithful updates instead.
