MARO HELP US THE PIGGIES ARE REVOLTING
Thread QuestionThe fact that I play only Pioneer on Arena fully f2p.
Two friends of mine randomly started playing Magic a couple months ago. They have no knowledge of formats, metagames, lore, and they have no interest at all in any UB stuff. We play kitchet table casual together (with the worst decks you've ever seen), and casual commander whenever we want to play 3-player games. This is the entire thing that keeps me interested in Magic these days. It's a lot of fun playing with people who aren't jaded about the game and have no idea how bad things are.
>>97148015>What keeps you interested in MTG at this point? My friends still wanting to play it
>TQi play pauper with friendssometimes commander but almost newest card you see will be something from ixalan at most, we just stop stopped cooonsuming
Sex.
I still play Pioneer and i don’t have to see “almost” any shitty horrible UB card. But being 100% honest i lose interest with every new set, im seeing this marvel cards and damn this is actually horribleIs like Cummander is eating the rest of formats completely and now everything is just Cummander but constructed.
>>97148015>TQI do matches with my friends, even if some of their decks annoy me; but it's a decent way to pass the time
>>97148066

>>97148015>TQThe constant validation that Gavin Verhey is a lying sack of shekels when it comes to his lies about White.
>>97148015This is the future of the game. You tell me if this game has something interesting in the upcoming future.
>>97148163Damn, that card is really gay.
>>97148239Stop fucking identifying with and building your whole identity around a mana color.
>>97148033They can't stop us all. RISE UP BROTHERS! ALL YOU HAVE TO LOSE ARE YOUR CHAINS!
>>97148250Yeah Lorwyn is looking surprisingly not-AIDS so far. I was expecting them to omenpath dozens of human cards in, but maybe Bloomburrow has finally convinced them that not every set needs "representation."

>>97148262I can't read that language.
>>97148302Once you start playing premodern, you will
>>97148262that card hurts my feelings anon, you can’t play that against me.
>>97148077Coomander fucked a lot of mechanics and bloated sets with garbage legendaries, but this shit is Habro chasing the Pokemon bubble. At best they "theorycraft" because no one can actually afford to keep up with this Fortnite shit at this pace.
>>97148250Honor will be restored, soon...
>>97148265Lorwyn had explicit (fantastic) racism. There's no chance they didn't change them to the White Guilt-leaf.
>>97148356Planeswalker's Guide makes it pretty clear that the Lorwyn elves are still very much racist, they just mask it because they're no longer the overbearingly dominant power of the world. SOME might have gotten better but there's always exceptions (Rhys for example), most are still racist and just waiting for society to collapse so THEIR ideology can rise from the ashes.
>>97148356I am honestly at the point where I'm fine with that and the inevitable negro kithkin as long as I see zero humans or Wakandaslop.
>>97148370There's no humans we know of apart from potentially Liliana visiting the place (they might have the whole Lorwyn 5 show up or at least be referenced), but that's Planeswalkers, so.
>>97148370>inevitable negro kithkinHell is a bottomless pit this is only the beginning
>>97148380I will, grudgingly, tolerate the original five nuwalkers, simply because their cards technically first appeared in the original Lorwyn. I won't be happy with it (and didn't Ajani die?) but I'll live with it as long as Lorwyn hasn't, overall, been Culturally Enriched.
>>97148398>didn't Ajani die?yeah but he got better (again)
>>97148423Why can't my nigga Venser get better?
>>97148436Venser was just a generic white male. And this spot is taken by Jace.
>>97148015>TQi still find modern and draft fun enough to play at fnm once a week meme formats premodern, old school and can highlander are fun as well if you can actually find anyone to play them with
>>97148436It's so weird that Venser explicitly existed to ease us into the concept of nuwalkers, was generally well received, and then when the time came to use that good will they just cast him aside, replaced him with Jace and killed him for basically no reason I can determine. Jace looked cooler, I guess, but there's no reason you couldn't give Venser a cool cloak...
>>97148259Make me, shekelstein. The day these noses actually make powerful standard white cards is the day I stop. But given it’s been over a decade and I see no progress to contradict Gavin’s lies, I’m gonna keep on going especially since nobody else in the world cares about White.
The time is nigh.Come back to Premodern, /tg/.Come back home.
>>97148871You already posted in this thread >>97148262
>>97148871how about a format where crusade is actually viable
>>97148398No, Ajani never died. He got compleated but got better.
So that Omens of Chaos book had its back cover revealed, and the artist of said cover posted the image without the blurb and also giving names to the characters. The protagonist, Eula, is on the front, but we have Alandra (Jumpstart character, apparently Talrand's niece), Kequia, Teferi's granddaughter, Jamira, Angrath's daughter (they remembered he exists surprisingly) and Segante, who just seems to be entirely new like Eula.
Are we gonna get SoS spoilers soon, or is it not a Magic set people care enough about?
>>97149109First look will probably happen sometime around when TMNT's out, or just before.
>1 mana creature with repeated draw for 2>becomes a wincon with moonmist + caltrops
>>97149146Why does Bruce have an "I <3 Tony" mug? Maybe Tony gave it as a joke.
>>97149157They’re both gay now. You have a problem with that you BIGOT! They were always gay coded, only a CHUD wouldn’t have seen that!

>>97149018>Alandra (Jumpstart character, apparently Talrand's niece)>Kequia, Teferi's granddaughter>Jamira, Angrath's daughter (they remembered he exists surprisingly)"multiverse" in cinema (MCU) was a mistake.>>97149146and it is shit for modern magic. AMAZING!
>>97149359I hope TMNT flops too. Just so I can get the boxes supercheap.
I love how WOTC still cope about the "Black is totally not the evil colour guys" when all the UB sets they've been shitting out have had good guys as primarily white and villains/ bad guys as almost entirely black
>>97149369TMNT is confirmed to be another scuffed mini set like Spiderman IIRC so I can see it
>>97149317based
>>97149218There's one new Planeswalker in every universes within set though. I do think that depowering most PWs was a mistake.
>>97149452Yeah, only one, there used to be at least 3 every set. The whole desparking thing and turning them into Legendary creatures was all for the sake of Commander.
>>97149452The depowering was because they pussied out during War of the Spork and did fuck nothing with that. So to raise the stakes they had a shittily written mass depowering that should have happened during WAR but didn't so WAR was trash, and the current depowering is trash because it comes out of nowhere.WotC honest to God writes like fucking children.
>>97149370To be fair, Splinter is Black despite being the good guy mentor character. Spider-Man Noir and Spider-Man with the symbiote are also Black. There's also plenty of Villains in Blue, Red, and even Green in Spider-Man and will probably be more in Marvel. There haven't been any mono-white Villains yet though.
How do you look at shit like TMNT, Spiderman, Avatar, and MCU shit in Magic cards and not become immensely depressed/disgusted?
>>97149482Why would I want to have a different reaction than that?
>>97149482There will come a time when MtG is not even known as the “fantasy card game”. It’s already happening. It will be known as the game that was once a fantasy game but is now exclusively UB. They won’t even call it UB anymore. It will just be “magic the gathering” followed by whatever current secondary IP they want to use.In 5-10 years UB will have completely taken over.
>>97148334>At best they "theorycraft" because no one can actually afford to keep up with this Fortnite shit at this pace. It's funny how cards designed for Commander don't even need to necessarily be good in Commander. They just need to be "interesting" enough for people to theorycraft around them for a deck they'll only play like twice if at all.
>>97148015yuck
>>97149482Easy, I like TMNT, Spider-man, Avatar, and the MCU
>>97149592>namor isn't legendary
>>97149500Magic was never the "Fantasy Card Game, it was "The Card Game". After some time it was proceeded by the "Pokemon Card Game" and the "Anime Card Game".

>>97149597Wrong Namor
>>97149599Well now it’s “the card game that whores itself out to every IP”
>>97149500>In 5-10 years UB will have completely taken overWe're already there. In-universe sets are now considered a "special treat" and should not be considered the norm according to WOTC. Whenever they release one, r/magictcg posts about how "we all need to vote with out wallets" and support the set so it will encourage Wizards to not fully abandon their own IP, as though that isn't already a foregone conclusion.I fully quit the game when pic related was spoiled.
>>97148436Because Venser died in a heroic sacrifice, making his death permanent

>>97149146>turn 3-4>cast caltrops>cast bruce>anger in grave>cast mistmoon>get trillion +1/+1 counters on the hulkster>pass the turn as you can't deal any damage...>you win...?
>>97149654The end of normal mtg sets is a matter of time. I think it will take some time for them to be phased out entirely though as WoTC don’t have to pay licensing fees etc. They’ll definitely dig into their own IPs though. MLP already had a secret lair, a full set is just around the corner. Expect it to be even cringier than whatever the fuck this card is.
Just surf /co/ for whatever cringe gay cartoons they have and they will fit right in with the new Magic.
>>97149688>a full MLP magic the gathering setIf this had released in the 2010s it would have collapsed the entire global economy because whales had funneled all currency on earth to wotc. Today it would make merely billions of dollars.
>>97149654>I fully quit the game the very first time any UB cards was announcedSounds like you were already looking for an excuse to stop playing.
>create a barrier like Invisible Woman>becomes stronger like the Thing>throws fire like Human Torch>and ... research power like Mr. Stretchy
>>97149737To be fair that is his super power. The stretching is just secondary. The fact this capeshit is in mtg at all is the real shitshow.
>>97149729Nope, I actually consider 2019-2020 to be the peak of MTG as a whole (aside from stuff like Oko, Astrolabe, Hogaak etc.), so I definitely would have kept playing if they hadn't done this.I could see where it was going back then so I just bit the bullet and sold all my cards. Every decision wizards has made since then has only made me feel more vindicated in quitting.
This capeshit is truly revolting but stay tuned because the worst has yet to come. This game is so cooked is unreal.
>>97149763This card always makes me angry. What the fuck does it even mean? In comp I’m guessing only side board but in everyday magic and drafting? >>97149809"Wish" cards have been a thing for decades. Strixhaven even introduced an entire spell type that could be pulled from outside the game. None of them work in commander though as a sideboard exceeds the 100 card limit.
>>97149829>The effect cares specifically about how many blue pips the spell has, dumbass, not if its blue or not. This is the stupidest fucking gorilla brain distinction in the fucking universe and whoever thought it was a good idea to implement should be lobotomized.

>>97149849>It cares because it's a card that wants you to play monocolorNo it fucking doesn't.
>>97149853It's 1UU and rewards you for playing cards with lots of blue pips in them. If you play Jeskai Revelation or Dovin's Veto it'll only make one token, but Invoke the Winds will make five. What else do you think it is but a monocolor payoff, retard?
>>97149864Sorry, Invoke the Winds will make four.

>>97149984Sure but it's a matter a ratio. Wolverine and Deadpool are, at worst, anti-heroes, and at best, heroes. Namor is at best an anti-hero and at worst, a genocidal sex pest.
>>97149815>>97149838I fail to see the issue. Blue didn't get Reach because Reach is objectively weaker than Flying, which Blue has plenty of. A Blue card having Reach isn't a color pie break, it's just a weaker card.
>>97149989Wolverine actually started as a Hulk villain, but he is significantly more of a hero than Namor is.

>>97150463You have very low standards then.
>>97150480Despite everything, Magic is good. People in this thread will deny that because they hate everything that has happened to to the game, but the game is really, really good. You might like or not like how it is right now, but at its core the game still plays like a dream, and in 10 or 20 years when the crossover frenzy is long over, it will still play like a dream. The land and mana mechanics, despite all the rage they cause, are an inerent check on all the bullshit- even in the strongest possible formats the degeneracy is held in check by their existance. The combat is simple and snappy, the land mechanics are intuitive, the formatting and the card frame design is elegant, and the rules have been refined through the years into the closest we can get to actually running a computer game IRL with how they can predict every possible occurrence. Are there misses? Yes. Dungeon, speed, banding, clash, party, so on. Are there broken cards? Yes. Oko, Omnath, Heartfire Hero, so on. Sometimes they let keywords get to their head and make 2 page long cards. Sometimes they go insane and shit out value engines that let you run away with the game. But despite all that, the core of Magic is good, the mechanics are broadly fun, the fact they design sets to be playable as small games in of themselves is unique and an experience absolutely no other game can give like Magic can, and they are extremely transparent about nearly every design decision they make. It is genuinely, despite UB and Commander and powercreep and Modern Horizons, the single best collectible card game in the market.
>>97150480Magic is still a fundamentally better and deeper game than any other TCG I've played. The combat step in particular is the best I've seen a TCG do, granted I have not played every TCG on the planet so there may be a better one out there, I dunno but I doubt it. I like the Bandai TCGs a lot too but I don't have a ton of trust in Bandai to manage these games long term seeing has how they sometimes seem to speedrun 10 years worth of MTG powercreep in a single year.

Anyway. https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/magic-story/lorwyn-eclipsed-episode-3-aweary-of-this-moon>Dina leads Ajani and Lili off to the wood where the students disappeared, while Dina privately muses that while she's upset to have lost them, it's mostly because that'd mean she's less likely to be trusted for other stuff in the future, she's not planning to become a teacher or anything>Killian's apparently going to be upset at Abigale going missing because she was a clear Silverquill hopeful, though, and Dina's at least vaguely aware of Tamira, and assumes the others will have people missing them too>Lili does some magic and quickly determines that the students aren't dead, because nothing as big and complicated as a person died there today, Ajani and her have a bit of snark at each other>Ajani explores a bit, finds a flower petal, and says it's a smell he's smelled before, Dina is confused and Lili goes "He means Lorwyn", I guess they're at least aware of the place to an extent (sure, there's time gaps they could've been there before, Lili especially)>Ajani and Lili discuss it a bit, before Ajani declares that he's aware of a stable Omenpath between Lorwyn and Shandalar, so he planeswalks over to Lorwyn to try and find the students and bring them through said Omenpath>It's also mentioned Tamira is from Shandalar>Lili tells Dina they're going back to campus, because Ajani will find them, it'll be fine>Back on Lorwyn, Brigid explains they were lucky they ran across her, because most others would try to help them more directly and potentially get lost to Shadowmoor>Anyway, she's leading them to Goldmeadow, which they arrive at in short order>Kirol sort of broadly asks what this place IS, because the entire place is built for people not of their statue. Only Sanar really fits in, size-wise
monored is really good in Standard right now but nobody's playing it because it doesn't have big crazy turns the way the Izzet and Izzet adjacent decks do. I havent lost a game at my LGS since Worlds because everyone's playing the new hotness lol

>>97151135>Brigid leads them to the meeting hall of the place, and Kirol asks why not her home, she says she doesn't live there, she tends to make Kithkin a bit nervous because her thoughtweft connection is all fucked-up>Kirol really wants to ask what a thoughtweft is, but Tamira has a look on her face that makes them think better>They get inside and Brigid properly asks them where they're from, since clearly it's not from around here>Sanar rambles off a very word but entirely useless explanation about the faerie and the hole and all, Brigid just stares blankly before Tam explains it a bit more proper>Brigid asks them about the creature, they describe it, she goes "oh that was a faerie", and says it's fortunate for them, because she's a close friend of their queen>She explains she can get in touch with Maralen, ask about the faerie that led them there and how to maybe get back, and all that>Sanar then just asks if faeries can talk, Brigid says of course, so Sanar asks why they don't just ask the faerie>This confuses everybody, but then they all turn to Sanar and realise said faerie is literally floating in front of his face, before it starts laughing>Its laughter is interrupted by alarm bells, and the faerie flees outside as Brigid looks to see what's going on>Oop, Isilu's coming and Goldmeadow's getting Shadowmoor'd>And Brigid says this shouldn't be, Goldmeadow's been comfortably Lorwyn for years, and further explains that the nomads in the city are in danger because the locals are a lot less friendly in Shadowmoor>Brigid says she can't help them further, she's gotta help the people here, they're gonna have to find Maralen on their own>She at least tells them where she is, Glen Elendra, and gives them directions, and then gives them a final warning about how the person that she'll be in the darkness is not her and not to listen to that one

I guess vampires are just a race where Kirol's from, not an infection or a turning>They cross over the river, Kirol geeks out about some flowers, then they head into the woods>Kirol starts to lag behind a bit, and none of them notice when Kirol's suddenly taken>Somebody has an arm around their neck and a hand on their mouth, apparently not really knowing that vampires don't breathe>The knife to the throat is more of an issue, though>The figure, revealed to be an elf, asks what they're all doing here, why Isilu is walking, all that>Kirol, unbothered by the recent threat on their life, just introduces themself, and asks the elf for his name>This is Lluwen, and Kirol explains they're just trying to get home>Lluwen says no, Kirol's coming with him because the High Perfect Morcant will want to see them>So Kirol's taken prisoner

If you're playing a ttrpg do you not avoid playing with people who you already know are absolute asshats that ruin the game? If you're playing a simple game like Monopoly with your normie friends and one or more of them act like complete morons, maybe throwing a tantrum because they wanted to do something else or whatever, and ruin the evening for everyone else, do you want to play boardgames with those individuals again? Of course not, they've proven to be toxic, either by their behavior or by how they play, and you'd rather not play with them again. It's the exact same thing with commander, it's a social activity and like any social activity you don't want to play with people you don't like. The mistake anons here keep making is assuming that it's some sort of TCG format. The sooner people realize that WOTC is no longer a TCG company, but rather a boardgame company, the sooner you'll understand everything about the current direction of the game.

Slightly balanced by having a commander to add the illusion of consistency. The few times I’ve tried it I found it just extremely dull. Like playing diplomacy but even worse. And it's bizarre that men have allowed themselves to become so emasculated as to no longer express normal opinions like "I'm attracted to fit women in their 20s" or "I don't like cocks in my ass" or "I'd rather not chop my penis off".It's just truly bizarre. Not that the freaks in art school are obsessed with it, I get that. But that anyone else accepts it or goes along with the whole charade. Like, what?? What the heck? Who gave these people so much power? And why do we listen to a single thing they have to say?I just wanna see cool monsters, zombies, and the occasional beautiful sorceress or dark wizard, or cool knight.

>>97148015>What keeps you interested in MTG at this point?I am struggling with this question. I don't really have an answer and that scares me. I have a hard time letting things go and I wonder if that is the only thing keeping me here.
>>97152623>is the avatar bundle worth 100€?If you want to get into Avatar specifically, yes.If you just want to get into commander in general the Foundations starter collection is the best deal and guarantees you much more commander staples.
>>97153990Dark ritual is already perfectly balanced no need to improve on it
>>97153936>to no longer express normal opinions like "I'm attracted to fit women in their 20s" or "I don't like cocks in my ass" or "I'd rather not chop my penis off".Most normal people dont need to express these things as they consider them normal enough to go without saying.

magic the gathering should get a zootopia UB
>magic the gathering should get a zootopia UB
>>97154285>Dedicated Furry set every yearI can see that happening
>After Trekkies, Waifufags, Animetards and Capeshit scum people is suggestin we should go after another of the worst groups out there: Furries.I rather see this game finally burn to ashes.
>>97153831It doesn't fit flavorwise with what I am designing, but I think that this is channel tier because life is disposable when you are using it to win.>>97153990I think pitching cards is the way to go, but as an additional cost so you only have to pay it once. 6 is a dead card unless you are comboing (with manamorphose).

>>97153990>discarding is a huge downside in stormare you retarded?
>>97150050I'm pretty sure magic was one of the most gate keepy games before Universe Beyond. Many players were turned away by how insufferable the players were that Wotc decided to focus on diversity and inclusion to increase player count.

Mods help the piggies are questioning Maro again
>>97154510Viashino was changed because it fits the scheme every other animal-person uses, Naga was changed because they never fucking used it. Alien is a catch-all, akin to Beast, but more specific ones will be used.
custom card fag here what would the correct wording be for a replacement effect that exchanges exile with destroy and vice versa?
>>97154588"If a permanent would be destroyed, exile it instead. If a permanent would be exiled, destroy it instead." You might need an "except by this card" rider though, I dunno if it works without that sort of thing.
>>97154579>Naga was changed because they never fucking used itYeah because Skrull will be used more often than Naga.Nice try Maro but we can smell your bagel and schmear from here.
>>97154588>Destroying things in hands>Destroying things in graveyards >All the "exile this and then do thing" nuke themselves You better scope it so it only works on the battlefield or you'll be drownings in weird interactions
>>97154612Well they plan to still use nagas, in Magic sets. But Naga was a poor type because it lacked synergy with Snakes, the Orochi in Kamigawa which were Naga-like were just Snakes and basically it's just Tarkir that has them. They're Snakes for the same reason Viashino are Lizards, broadly speaking.Conversely, Skrull exists to represent the IP. Same with Gamma. You can't really use an existing type to delineate between Hulk and others. You COULD maybe use just Alien Shapeshifter for all Skrulls, to be sure, but clearly they wanted to be a bit more specific. EOE, for example, didn't use the Alien type at all. One-offs will more likely be Aliens, but we'll see.
>>97154511nice to see Horsley at least
>>97154616Judge! What is the ruling for a destroy effect affecting a card that its not a permanent?

When's the Trek spoiler
>>97154687imagine if Spock end up being as strong as Vivi
>>97154634It makes no sense that they didn't consolidate dog/hound, coyote, jackal, and fox under this same logic (which I broadly agree with)
>>97151049>Is there a fried chicken in the card art?>Is there a KFC set?Yeah, you know what I mean
>>97154687March at the latest at this rate.
>>97154702We all know it will be diverse girl boss captain who breaks the format. How else would her fugly card sell?
>>97155188I doubt we’ll be getting any STD in that set since they officially took it out of Trek canon. It’ll be mostly TOS and TNG
>>97154799Yeah, that's a separate thing and more just an awkward inconsistency. I THINK Fox, Dog and Wolf being their own things at least sort of feels more correct, but Jackal and Coyote don't need to exist, especially when there's just one type for ALL felines.
>>97155188>>97155222It'll be apparently covering the entire franchise, but to what extent we don't know. I can see it being like 70-ish% TOS and TNG, with DS9 and VOY shoring up the rest and then a scattershot of all the rest. We'll get precisely one Lower Decks card. We may or may not get Kelvin Timeline stuff, though I doubt it.

IM TOO MUCH OF A CHUD FOR MTGAHHHHHHHHHHHH! IT HURTS, IT ACTUALLY KINDA HURTS!
>>97154861Anon, they do that too. Most of the time you just don't recognize it because it's japanese companies and brands. The instant ramen card that anons make fun of in FF was in the game because of a Nissin cup noodles promotion. You don't even know what you mean.
