Thoughts on Blighted Wilds, the current hot new thing?

I want to be able to make my own weird regiments in the next edition in the full matched game experience. Especially if it means I can finally make (a)elves. For now I'll experiment with it.

>>
>>97161473
>TQ
I like the lore thus far, but the pushing of the Jade Abbey and trying to no-so-subtly bring up the Darkwank shiz in an effort to generate hype for it is pretty cringe tbhon.
>>
>popsicle stick huts in official promotional material
Fucking SOVL
>>
>>97161523
I dont know if Hype is the word i'd use for it but rather trying to find some sense of purpose between the two. Which, to me at least, is nice compared to how cursed city ended up being cooked up.
>>
>>97161473
Terribly overcosted.
190 for 5 Blightkings: 4" 3W 1 control 3+ save, 4a 3+/3+/-1/1
38ppm
In Blighted Wilds, that's
>Guardians, 20ppm 5" 1W 4+ save, 2a 4+/4+/-1
>+30ppm for a 3+ save
>+20ppm for 3+/3+/
>+20ppm for -1 rend
90ppm, 450pts for 5 Blightkings with +1" movement but no control buff.
Technically you can't even do that because you need 3 units minimum plus a hero which has to max out at 500pts
>>
>>97161551
Oh +40ppm for the 2 missing attacks
>>
Friend wants to part with his Wood Elves. I don't play ToW(ank) but always been tempted by Wanderers. Me and my bro still play 2nd edition AoS in which they are usable.
40 Eternal Guard.
20 Waywatchers or maybe Glade Guard (can be used as Sisters of the Watch or Shadow Warriors)
10 Wild Riders (unbuilt so maybe 5 WR and 5 Sisters of Thorn)
1 Wood Elf Lord (Nomad Prince)
1 Spellsinger (Battlemage)
Worth it? Would love to hear from someone who played Wanderers.
>>
Might have found an Archaon for 80 bucks locally, gonna see if I can haggle it down for lower....

That bloodthirster is going to end up with some nasty splinters from the looks of it. Are daemons inoculated against tetanus?
>>97161573
>would love to hear from someone who played wanderers
Best of luck anon but you're looking at a group of maybe 15 people worldwide at their peak [spoilers] I almost became one of them back in the day, wild riders are cool. If only their infantry didn't look so lame [/spoiler]
>>
>>97161573
Eternal Guard kinda shred but otherwise it's quite typical and uninspired iirc? mw sisters, charge buff wild riders. Nothing fun like Sylvaneth redeploys or glade guard -3 rend once per battle.
Inoffensive but soulless. It's like Freeguild losing their while grouped order thing from the GHB or Dispossessed losing the bunker down stuff with the shift to CoS but yknow living city exists so I guess you can lean into it that way

>The inhabitants of Mire Heath are a raucous, thriving people. Their land is fertile, their folk stout of limb and light of heart. As with any little hamlet responsible for its own well-being, there is always the occasional cause for mourning. Rarely - almost never, in fact - a crop fails or an illness scours the village. Somewhat more frequently, an unheeding drunk or ungovernable child strays too far from the heath and too close to the mire where the muck sings, and for a half-moon after their family's neighbors bring them meals and condolences while they grieve. These occasions are rare, however; the bitter aftertaste of a life otherwise occupied by golden afternoons with vibrant lichens underfoot, spiced by the fragrance of blossoming wormwood trees.

Part of the townsfolk's success, if you ask any Heathsman, is their strong sense of tradition. Their communal harvests and feasts, their shared love of bright and vibrant lands, and their simple but entrenched religion means that in the event any two Heathsfolk encounter one another abroad they immediately recognize one another and clasp hands with the warmth warranted one's own kin. One of the most joyous traditions of these bustling, toothsome hamlet, known to all from these parts, occurs at the birth of a blue-eyed child. The village cheers, wines and dines; the child is daubed with mud paints in the pattern of the wheat, the harvest moon, and the dutiful worm whom labors for the folk eternally, tilling the earth on which they rely.

If you actually want it don't wait too long anon. Still kicking myself over losing out on a brand new idoneth spearhead for 75 yuros. That's like €200 worth of models.
>>
>>97161647
Oh hey it's that NMM anon, based shrek enjoyer
>>
>>97161666
Oh shit I remember that, I'm waiting for them to get back to me since they took 2 dubious pictures and I'm making sure he's not missing like, 2 of the 3 heads on the monster or it's snapped in half or jizzed on or something.
>>
>>97161647
>>97161501

>The newborn, however, will never be a heathsman. The origins of this tradition is lost, but the child is taken past the amber heaths and pungent wormwood, to the place where soft orange lichen lies thick as pelts and the mire is traversible only carefully and across ancient paths and moldering plank bridges. Here, at the place where there is so very little heath left, where there is oh so much mire, the Heathsfolk leave the newborn where the worms sing. They do not stay. They are of the Heath, and so very little of their presence is tolerated here; only the bare minimum, where the blue eyed Child of the Mire's favor affords them protection.

>The Heathsfolk leave, but the child of the mire stays. Any heathsman will insist on the necessity of this - they cannot explain why the eye color of the child has any bearing, nor why the deliberate offering is warranted where a lost child would be tragedy. But now and again, when a fool or an innocent wanders too far, the few that return speak reverently of blue eyes watching from the murk and the susurrus of whispering bells guiding them back to safety. So the folk of the Heath continue to lay their faith in the Children of the Mire, perhaps knowing in their hearts that their entire way of living is contingent on their long-held traditions...

>>
I had a dumbass lore explanation for this too.

>The curse of the Everwinter is inescapable, as the Sandtribes learned when their forebears stumbled onto Aqshy. Instead of snow, it takes the form of a colossal, man-flaying sandstorm. What sets the Sandtribes apart is their gleaming metal - while the secret of hygiene eludes them yet, the Sandtribes of Aqshy have learned that a sword left overnight in the Everstorm can be retrieved in a later migration honed to an impossible edge. This tradition of sandsteel farming combined with the natural Ogor greed, resulting in a nomadic, mercantile society that uses gleaming scrap metal as currency and status symbol alike.

Last blog post for today until I paint for at least another couple hours but this is the pic that got me into mini painting (I dry brushed a unit of skeletons white as a kid, if that counts) because I thought it was so unbelievably radical

>>
>>97161708
Trying too hard
>>
>>97161857
Just change the colors to black and white and you'll like it more.
>>
>>97161857
Because they literally keep getting away with this stupid thing where they fully illustrate two things and then put a bunch of blurred shit in the background. It probably saves the artist they commission like 70% of the time they would spend otherwise. I don't mind impressionism but they keep fucking doing it.
>>
>>97161750
It would be in your best interest to not randomly lash out at people right now. People are overly sensitive to shitposting rn and you're going to aquire an orbiter
>>
>>97161674

>>
>>97161871
I’ve heard this before and I don’t know if there’s a word for being style blind when it comes to art. Like how some people are color blind some AoS fans are style blind and can’t see differences in distinct artistic genres.
>>
>>97161890
I probably don't NEED archaon, but 80ish bucks archaon is pretty tempting. I'll tell you if it winds up working out.

Anons, do you have the good fortune of going to an LGS that serves beer?

I loved my LGS before my break from AoS. It had beer, 30 year old boomers to drink with, a big DND/board game night scene so there were women to avoid eye contact with, basically just a fatguy dream
>>
>>97161977
Sylvaneth is a women army, so their style matches. Now go pain butterfly wings on sakura trees
>>
>>97161994
I've only had a place organize late night Magic FNMa with beer. Never went, but i've heard it was a shitshow
>>
>>97161994
The one I typically play at used to be the old Fantasy Flight Games HQ and has a little bar and cafe.
>>
>>97161994
No, but I don't drink anyway. I barely have the good fortune of an LGS that has Warhammer activites at all, let alone AoS.
>>
>>97161994
Not strictly no, but I have the opposite pretty close, bar that sometimes has game nights.
>>
>>97161994
liquor licences are a racket here and zoomies don't drink. My lgs' are small stores with a disgusting back room the tcg players use daily but I've been to one with a nice cafe before and the local historical club I attended once had catering and cans. It was a waterfront venue too. Beautiful!
>>
>>97161473
It's okay. As always the narrative side of AoS is the bastard child of the glorious Crusade rules for 40k. I wish if they're willing to copy bad choices from that game if they could also copy the good ones too. I'd maybe have fun with them if their were people to play with in my area, but everyone here is poor as sin. Myself included as I got these when times were better.
>>
>>97162170

it's not fucking fair bros...WE deserve a video game, WE are GWs second best selling setting, yet we are constantly insulted, belittled and pushed aside. What little we have is doomed to die in the cradle because the fucking grogs are everywhere in every fucking media keeping us down, always turning discussion how we are allegedly some knockoff to a not-selling miniature line and how "unoriginal" our setting is, despite there being major progress over the last editions. It's just not fucking fair

some models GW do have cool faces, I think what most of the models lack is drama, like, Gorechosen of Dromm for exemple has it: Dromm looks like a fanatic priest, the gorehulk looks nice, and the fatso is a shit poster.
I get that GW try to make their models realistic but going for comic book style isn't as bad for miniatures.

>>
>>97163304
The facial expression, body pose and visual language are at cross-purposes, each are saying something different.

I think the body pose is the big fuck up here. Take a look at the position of the left arm, it's clearly in a defensive, hesitant position, which the rest of the body follows. This is not the pose of someone trying to attack with a whip, this is a failed lion-tamer trying to get an animal back under control before it eats him. Body language is the most obvious and primary method a sculpture communicates to the viewer.

But everything else works against that. The face is of a crazed madman, showing no connection with the message being communicated by the body posture.

The body armor makes no sense, in two key ways. First, it's unclear what much of the material is, and what purpose it all serves. Why does the gauntlet on the right forearm show signs of bending, is it organic, leather? How does the plating on the left arm fit together? Which pieces slide under the other? What's with the breastplate jacket thing over the stomach armor?
The second way the armor makes no sense is again, how it conflicts with the body language. Why is there so many spikes, "demonic," looking bits, when the posture is of someone cowering?

I think a final big problem that only became clear to me when I studied the model more, is how terrible the armor on the arm looks. Why is the face and hair so crazy detailed, but the arm is just covered with simple geometry out of Warcraft III?

Nta, and speaking for myself, you're right. I don't. I hang out in the threads for the games I play. I don't need to hang out in the threads for the games I don't play, because I don't play them and don't really feel the need to dig through a bunch of stuff that irrelevant to me. Not shitposting, but do you intentionally browse threads for things you know you don't like? Why? I'm genuinely interested, because that doesn't really make sense to me personally.

Before tow came out and therefore before the increase in WFB tourism, I would go to the WFB board even though I didn't play because I liked looking at stuff in the mega and every now and then there'd be this absolute gem like the time someone casually mentioned they had 160,000 points of skeletons and someone called bullshit and they were like, no, it's a problem and then posted the (disturbing) evidence

Looking good anon, loving the blind eye on the squig and again your nmm is fantastic, care to indulge us with your secrets?
I finished the base for my squig last night
>>
>>97164358
I think I have to do that, I don't mind the highlights but I tried to pick them out with the shade color and I didn't color match well and/or the brush was loaded poorly
>>
>>97164359
That's gorgeous, is that just Tufts or is it static grass? I've been thinking of doing static grass on a squig the way sloths grow moss, but I don't know how feasible that is. The mushroom is also (goes without saying) always fun to look at on GSG, and that rock actually looks like a rock instead of broken cork.

In terms of NMM, I either blast it with light while it's unprimed and get a good idea for directional lighting or I just freeball and then put dark areas next to light areas. It definitely takes a lot of time, though; I think it would be a lot less fun if you didn't like doing it. If you want to try NMM, just go for it, and then post on here. I can use MS Paint to see if I can adjust any highlights and stuff and we can go back and forth (which is how painting nmm goes anyway).

All the painting guides on YouTube are good, if you can learn that way. You'll also notice some of your paints are really well behaved compared to others. Reds or greens generally glaze easily, yellows generally glaze streakily, so if you were doing nmm gold you would probably have an easier time layering up to a harsh yellow highlight, applying white at the harshest highlights, and then selectively bringing it down with deeply thinned primary colors. Based on the dots and the squig, I think your brush control is more than good enough. Do you use the other niceties like wet palette, brush soap etc?

>>
>>97164436
The more I think of it, the more I'm convinced that them trying to make RoR a console compatible RTS is the root of basically all of its problems.
Seriously, basically every gripe I have about it (Which is mostly tied to the gameplay) can be traced back to trying to get it to work on consoles, even down to the TYPE of RTS (CoH style vs AoE style) that it is.
Given that Frontier generally knows what the fuck its doing, the game probably could've been pretty good if they didn't deliberately cripple themselves.
>>
>>97164442
Strategy games and console feel like they're diametrically opposed, I can't imagine microing with a controller. Paradox did the same with ck3 and I feel like the whole game got simpler because of it, not that ck2 required a strategical mastermind in the first place, but still. Though it seems to have worked out for them sales-wise at least.

There's a nonzero chance that this trend might reverse with the GabeCube. It depends on how well it sells, but if it becomes a big enough player in the console space, RTS devs might (Rightly) abandon the pipe dream of making their games playable on console
>>97164450
That's cause they generally are. RTS games CAN work on console, but they have to be made with the console in mind first, which means they either have to have a nonstandard format or are going to be generally inferior to one made for the PC and only for the PC.
Though CK3 is honestly better than CK2 in my opinion. It might be a bit simpler yes (Despite playing both I can't really say) but it's definitely less... esoteric in some areas, which makes it generally more playable. The added QoL stuff and expansion of a few systems that only really got added late in CK2s lifecycle (or only existed as a mod) also make it a far more enjoyable experience. Not to mention the map size increase.

A couple of CK3's best features are locked behind DLCs, but fortunately It's December so you'll only need to wait a few days to be able to get most of them for cheap, and what isn't cheap can be gotten for a bit off in a bundle.
Seriously though the roads to power DLC is probably the best DLC paradox has ever put out. Not only since it lets you Byzmaxx, but you can also play as a landless, travelling ruler, which means you can be a mercenary company, a wandering do-gooder, a wandering preacher that can destabilize entire empires by easily flipping counties and characters to your relgion, stoke a peasant uprising and carve out a small kingdom, or a wandering criminal who becomes the lord of all hobos and leads a hobo army to steal an entire kingdom

I think that's an allusion to a plot point from Court of the Blind King. In it the king of one of Briomdar's offshoot enclaves tasks the MC to recover his heirloom spear from a treelord. The spear in question is very old and magical, to the point where just a glance at it makes the MC suspect that Teclis may have personally overseen its creation.

It's probably awful, legend units tend to be weak. 150 for Kelthannos is absurd, for example. But it's probably not so awful it couldn't work in a casual setting, kurnoth hunters are good units that can brawl decently with tougher stuff and you get some fast stuff to run around and skirmish.

I'm chipping away at my BoK army and currently on my "free" herald from the skullcannon kit.
I just waiting for the GS to solidify and I'll add some better transitions from hair to skull and hanging out the other side of his fist.
He seems like a massive force multiplier (+1 to hit) for my 20 stack of bloodletters, and honestly considering a second one, 2 sets of 20xBL plus a herald sounds scary

If it isn't on netflix and you don't play video games then you probably don't know that a franchise exists. Nerd hobbies can get popular, but even things like magic the gathering haven't hit the true mainstream normie crowd despite all their newer products being tailored for them. Like my dad is a fucking huge nerd, had us playing doom and ut2003 as kids, and loved lotr and star trek and hard scifi novels like ringworld and dragons egg. But even he has no understanding or knowledge about magic the gathering outside him buying me a couple packs when I was really little, and me mentioning it when I was heading over to friends places to play. He still plays video games to this day(he's been trying to play bloodborne blind since it released on ps4 lmao) and I think I'd likely have to remind him what warhammer is even though he was the one who bought me battle for macragge like 20 years ago when I was little.

>>
>>97168364
Like as a Spearhead? It's alright. It's made of glass but that's just tzeentch in general. You can mitigate thar somewhat if you can utilize transient forms. It's got several fast flying units with the magisterial and screamers, and if you can keep those alive till turn 3 or 4 that can be game winning, late game movement is massive for objectives and scoring when there's little left on the board to contest.

also its got 20 shooting attacks and a mortal damage endless spell which is a ton for spearhead, and just a shitload of bodies in general which makes it great on objectives. Also demonheart and timeslip pendant can both be game winning if used right

Crazy that they still get 9 destiny dice too despite the smaller shorter format
>>
>>97168645
Mortal damage spell*

Not endless. Idk where that came from

Oh and don't forget the screamers do some mortal damage too. In a game mode where both sides have on average like 15 to 20 models, mortal damage is huge in spearhead

The wretched retard Alan (No) Merritt is key to all this, a stupid, vain, petty arsehole incapable of creativity. Stuck watching the studio go from strength to strength while he's doing whatever boring shit he was barely fit for. But he bided his time and eventually he was able to call the shots, and his big idea? Annihilate the companies' foundational setting out of sheer spite and replace it with a dreadful warcraft/gatcha mash-up, Fail of Deadgame.

But luckily, there's something deeply wrong with some of the losers who've been attracted to the hobby, they have this flaw where they will do literally whatever a corporation tells them to, and they sat on the internet for years pretending that your abortion of a setting and failure of a game was successful while for the first time we had real sales numbers from outside GW for just how popular Warhammer was, and even better, just how popular Gays of Smegma isn't.

And then one day you get fired, but the repulsive shills, all two of them keep forging on until, at last, they 41% themselves in a tranny suicide pact and there's no one left to pretend anyone ever liked AIDS of Shitmar

So we were doing the map where people get sucked into portals on objectives and he tried to lock me out, turns out the objective I had syngergized and I slapped my guys in the corners and held on for dear life.
Was a lot of fun we were both pretty baffled with how the whole thing turned out but my boys held their points and whiped out half his army. Somehow I bumblefucked my way to victory!

>>97170101
They're from over the past few years, I swear they look decent!

Apologies for picture quality but honestly pretty neat, I hadn't played with the new GHB yet and didn't expect to like the gimmicky map but we both enjoyed ourselves. Was neat seeing how much damage slaves could pop out, his chosen nearly killed my gatecrasher in 1 turn, the whole scramble in the middle worked out since he figured he'd teleport all my dudes away but it kinda worked out since he couldn't really cap the objectives or move fast enough to get to the edges to stop me from scoring my shit.

I expected a big brawl in the middle until one of us died but wound up actually winning with objectives.

Wasn't meant as an insult, someone posted a SoB army last week and it wasn't painted so I wanted to congratulate you if you got it done so fast

>new 40k rts is going to be on console
shit's going to die as fast as Halo Wars did. Still wish GW would realize AoS and specifically stormcast fit a soulslike game perfectly and they should do that. The only problem is GW doesn't have good ideas, and there are no western devs that make good soulslikes. Even then, I think a Lords of the Fallen game reskinned with AoS stuff would do good.

>black library
but is star seers ruin at least a decent enough read?
>>
>>97170860
They just need to reskin Hades for a Stormcast that can even have different weapons. Maybe he's blessed with greatly reduced reforging loss to justify dying so often. You can easily have different environments and enemies.
>>
>>97170864
Yeah, the sort of tie-in short story was great and Adrian Tchaikovsky is a very good author who has particular talent dealing with non-human perspectives in his own writing. It's kind of surprising GW didn't push it more, given it was written by a guy who is sort of prominent, he's not a nobody or someone who's really written much franchise work before

Whats the consensus on the darkwater book to playmat thing? Is it bad and comes apart, or does it stay nice and flat?

Also really curious about how this turns out. I think hardcover is a strange choice. Spiral binding feels way more functional imo. I do think this is a really cool idea if it's done well. A core set for something like spearhead or warcry, with a handful of small terrain pieces that fit alongside every single battlemat in a big book would be really sick. You can buy big battlemat book for rpgs, but they aren't designed with a single terrain style in mind, but a first party warhammer one built to go alongside all of their terrain would be a lot of fun. Maybe add back aos2 style realm rules and artifacts for spearhead, and have a mat for every single realm. Like I said it's a really exciting idea to me if it's nice

I've got boners to finish, and then the lizards refresh box to start along with 9 terradons, 2 bastiladons, a carno, a troglodon, 2 stegadon, lord kroak, 40 skinks, and 40 old saurus im going to use as hand weapon skinks. Then maybe dok or oops all spites sylvaneth done in spooky human skintones with lots of gore. So to answer your question, I have a problem. It's an old army that I stripped like a dumbass and need to repaint now. I've been putting it off cause it feels kinda bittersweet. They looked like utter ass before but they were some of my first models, I really don't know why I didn't just pick up another army. I think it was cause I was still excited about lizards but bummed out about how they looked. But I wanna get them done just to have them painted again.

Usually it's because the place is left without moderation, at which point the subs gets flooded with spam bots and the jannies close it down. I can see a niche army like DoK being vulnerable to this. I think the obr one also got whacked like that.

I seriously need to start working on my DoK Spearhead. Buddy of mine has the Lumineth Spearhead and we're ready to get in some of that lovely Dark Elf/High Elf rivalry, I'm just intimated by the models.
The Witch Elves seem super fragile in terms of poses and painting the snakes is going to be fun but challenging.

Does AoS have any conspiracies? I remember rumours of Nagash's corpse in lake lethis but that seems to have disappeared.
None of the new BL works have Reynolds's penchant for subtle world building so it all feels a little soulless. Like Grombrindal in Realmslayer being something you could read into the character before they just came out and said it several times thereafter.

I prefer unity between the two, like in Godsbane or Children of Teclis. If we ever get an AoR for a combination I'll jump on them, like the End Times Helf-Delf lists.
I'd love to see Malerion and Teclis in union declare war on their cunt relatives.
>>
>>97171758
>End Times Helf-Delf lists
I WOULD KILL FOR THAT!
I never played WFB but I always wanted a Host of the Eternity King army. Welves, Delves and Helves working side by side, despite loathing each other, against a common foe for the survival of their race is something I love.
Same reason I adore the Ynnari in 40k (although they've been forgotten and neglected ever since the Gather Storm). I love seeing the various aesthetics together on the table.

Play 1st Ed, choose your Grand Alliance Order as your Allegiance and you can take units from whatever factions you want in your army at the cost of much worse artefacts and Allegiance abilities.
To make a Wood Elf, High Elf and Dark Elf army combine Dok, Wanderers, Swifthawk Agents, Lion Rangers, Order Draconis, Phoenix Temple, Sylvaneth, Darkling Covens, Scourge Privateers, Shadowblades, Eldritch Council and the Order Serpentis.
I've done in a few times, it's really fucking fun. Once had a Wanderer/Order Serpentis/Phoenix Temple army fight the Ironjawz in a battle that had my Dreadlord on Black Dragon dueling the Warboss on Mawcrusha for 3 turns. A duel he won, I might add!

the nature of the realm and what's the truth with hashur are perhaps the most interesting mysteries as of now

I assume you mean fluff conspiracies and not stuff like "kragnos was meant to be a beast of chaos before gw squatted them from the setting"?
A while ago some anon pointed out that teclis' existence in aos is kind of sketchy. Tyrion wakes up alone in the realm of light (presumably because he was hysh' incarnate in the end times). He wanders around for a while, and eventually makes it to the realms' edge, stares into said edge until his eyes melt in his skull, blacks out, wakea up again, except now teclis is there.
I like the idea that teclis is a hallucination given form, or maybe a reflection of tyrion. He's very much associated with the moon after all, which of course doesn't make its own light, just reflects that of the sun (tyrion).
To be clear I don't think this is actually all that likely, gw doesn't have the balls for it, but I think it's fun to think about.
Similarily, there was a line in one of the early helsmiths fluff articles that kind of implied (current) Hashut isn't necessarily who he says he is.
