someone said the last thread was too civil so here's your hot take for this one:

this community doesn't value fundamentals enough. the reason I think is toxic positivity. this is what I see happening: a beginner will post his work looking for advice. the model will have a lot of beginner mistakes. the brush strokes will be messy, the primer will be grainy, mold lines will be visible, etc. now the most important thing for this person to learn at this point is fixing these basic issues, but aside from "thin your paint" which has reached meme status, no one wants to mention it because they think constructive criticism means only saying positive things. anyone who does point the mistakes out will get called out for nitpicking and "can't you see he's a beginner?"

now this beginner will go on painting without ever having the importance of the basics being impressed on him. many of the issues will clear up through repetition, but without the fundamentals being stressed some of them will persist even after months or years. he will see work from people who do have good fundamentals and think they look better than him and think it's because of some advanced technique, not realizing that like 80% of a good looking model is solid fundamentals that he should have learned while working on his first few kits. eventually this person will consider himself an experienced painter. he will see another beginner post his work and give the same advice he remembers from when he was new. "good attempt, but it looks a little flat. try dry brushing the armor to make it pop."

Not huge progress but got the ossefactor gun arm done, so now my corsair weapons platform crewman is done and can shoot people with boneitis.
Probably 1 or 2 more models left in the project overall since including the Walker and Starweaver pilots I'm up to 8 eldar and 10 seems a good round number. I just need to work out conversions etc. Some kind of melee bruiser would be good, as would maybe some kind of ghost warrior.

Almost every beginner paintjob posted here gets some more in-depth feedback, especially if they actually ask for it. I do agree we might be a bit too positive at times but I'll take that over low effort shitposting posing as criticism any day

is it shitposting to tell someone to clean a mold line or that his primer is fucked and he needs to strip it and do it again? like I said almost all feedback given to beginners is in the vein of "do this additional thing to make it look better" when the advice they need to be given is "work on improving this thing that you're already doing."

>is it shitposting to tell someone to clean a mold line or that his primer is fucked and he needs to strip it and do it again
Absolutely not, I see this said here fairly often though? Even last thread we got a guy with uneven coats of paint/primer and anons pointed that out. Shitposting would be saying it looks dogshit without providing any advice on how to actually improve it. I'll try to keep what you're saying in mind next time I get a chance to give feedback though because you brought up valid points.

Basecoat with SC31, paint shadows and recesses with SC32, then creases and raised areas with SC28 and SC27 for the very top/edges that catch the most light. Then when it dries thinned agrax earthshade all over to blend.
The set is called wood and leather from scalecolor

I've joined a new ttrpg group and one of the players asked me to turn his ai slop into a mini. He said he can't paint for shit so I offered to paint it

it looks kinda grimey to me, bit too much or let's say undefined, but the ai slop he provided also has a grimdark aesthetic

opinions or rather tips on how to make it more crisp?
>>
>>97344324
the ai slop I use as a template

>>
>>97344250

I have a hard time believing the tolerances are so tight that they don't fit after priming, but it's of course possible? People usually shave a little bit off from the push fit parts to fit them better, or they cut the connection points all together.
>>
>>97344324
>opinions
I don't think the issue lies with how you've painted it, but the quality of the print itself providing a uniform texture.

Other than that the beard / chestplate seems to lack detail / volume but that might just be the lighting.
>>
>>97344250
No one likes pushfit because it literally never fits without extensive shaving of the pegs, but you should have at least dryfit them before priming if you've never dealt with pushfits before to realize that.

Finally getting around to those terminators of mine, couldn't sleep so I started on some base coats. Desk lamp is a bit harsh for photos, but the crux and the chest eagle are done, those are always fast and easy to do. The fist will have a checkerboard pattern over the red, will be using some transfers for that, though, I don't trust myself to hand paint that on such a small surface. And I swear the grey over-layer is just drinking up the dark metal(citadel iron warriors) like a drunk at the bar, it'll probably be a better finish after a wash, but it still feels kinda annoying.

Last one, I'm a bit worries how much I'll screw up my chapter badge on these guys. I've done it so much for left sided pauldrons already, but coming at it from the right feels weird.
>>
>>97343717
in a recent thread there was a guy asking about his fucked up primer and there were more people telling him to just paint over it than telling him to redo it. I point out crustyness and mold lines every time I see them but usually don't get any acknowledgement.
>>
>>97344422
I used some makerworld tool to make a mini from his picture, so the mini is just flat like that. I showed him the dwarf sets I have from lootstudios, but he preferred the slop

I did dry fit them. I did prime these models twice so that's probably why. I'm stripping them and will probably just try to paint them assembled or cut and glue.
>>
>>97343509
Metal Khaine.
>>
Why does paint randomly not adhere to some parts of a model? It seems to just "shimmer" away or retreat or w/e. The model is primed, and there's not an inconsistency in the coverage. Like it covers fine in most places but there's always someplace where it won't.
>>
>>97345118
What were you priming with? It's possible your primer went on too smooth on these parts and that's why paint can't adhere properly.
