Reposting my snails for C&C!
Almost done with my cawdor trash nun. Any tips or suggestions?
>>97412714There are some studs on the neck that need to be touched up with some iron, and I would fix the edge highlighting/plaid by edging back in the lines with red
>>97412711i like them and keep up with it, reminds me of chaos snail art from runequest>>97412714my suggestion is she looks great and is done alreadyyou can fine tune her for the next 2 weeks and not be happy so just paint the rim already and give yourself a new challenge
>>97412777Thank you! Ill get on that
One of my boss monsters for the DnD campaign is starting to take shape. Meant to be a severely mutated beholder who is having the eyestalks cut off and implanted in unwilling guards via techno-sorcerous surgery to make a sort of biological central surveillance system.
>>97412825I wish people were more ashamed of posting their gooner models
Noticed the mold lines on some old primed models are pretty bad, do I need to strip them or can I scrape them down as is?
>>97412825looks cool
>>97413051You can scrape them down as is and blast the line with a quick burst of primer or just paint over it and hope it doesn't stand out.
>>97413051Tbh I would strip it, but you might be able to do >>97413082
>>97413082>>97413091desu it's all over the place on one guy specifically and I primed too bright a color anyway, isopropyl works fine right?
>>97413116I'm gonna keep shilling this. It just works real good even if it's a pretty penny off ebay and it lasts for a long time.
So I heard you're supposed to 'cure' for 24 hours after spraying primer. Is it the same for the brush painting/priming as well?
>>97413180I've painted over brush-on primer after like 3 minutes, basically as soon as it was dry, and never had any problems.
So oil washes are:>finish basecoat>varnish>apply wash and wipe off on raised areaswhile acrylic wash is:>basecoat>apply wash>paint back original color to raised areasDo I understand correctly? What's the advantage? Faster or better look?
>>97412825
>>97413116Yeah,but if it's resin be careful about warping/bending while soaking
>>97413228there's no chance of the annoying shininess that you sometimes get with acrylic washes in oil washes (which has made me not really bother with acrylic washes anymore it kept happening to me). The pigments are richer, the ability to wipe it off of raised areas means you can be more accurate and specific with the look, and it's a lot cheaper for me. And you can do cool stuff like streak marks with oils a lot easier, as well as glazes. You can paint on top of the oils with normal acrylics too to get the pure original color back since even when you rub it off it'll be slightly glazed and filtered.
>>97413228>advantages Indispensable for doing recess washing on bright colors like white/yellow that would otherwise require multiple layers to fix any wash over spill.
...Any tips on removing lacquer particles off your glasses? Fucking wind.>Yeah I learned my lesson a hard way. Will order goggles now
>>97413255>>97413271I see, and do I just buy some dark oil paint and then mix it with whatever spirits or should I head to YT and watch some slopper explain it
is it worth to use expensive artist grade oil paint to make wash?
>>97413399Yes, you should watch a tutorial. Gunpla ones work fine for just basic recess shading/panel lining. For more involved stuff like weathering/filtering check out scale modelling channels.
>>97413399in a perfect world I'd say get a piece of terrain you don't really care if it looks messy and mess around with a dark oil paint like burnt umber and white spirit (also known as mineral spirits or paint thinner) and try different things. You might be tempted to dilute it way down with the spirit to get it looking like a wash but in my experience that can stretch the pigment way too thin and produce weird capillary textures from the spirit drying, if you dilute it a small amount so that there is still pigment over all the paint you can slop it on and then wipe it away.Careful of the smell though unless you get odorless thinner. And yeah if you want more info watch a tuber
what are the differences between oil washing and enamel washing? aside from the type of paint
>>97413320IPA
>>97413448>>97413455thanks, I have some stuff I could try it on
>>97413320Depends on if they have any special coting on them and if the lenses are actually glass, or just plastic as is common these days.best option assuming that they are some sort of prescription, and have a basic anti scratch coating, would be to take them into wherever you got them from and ask.
>>97412711I think you should gloss up the flesh so they look slimy
