Expect to have a lot more fun than you would by playing TOW. You'd have even more fun playing 3e though. You'll have the most amount of fun if you and your opponent go into the fight with a little backstory on why you're fighting this specific battle, and make a thematic table to match it

Have fun buddy
>>
>>97718267
Nah the helmets are fantastic in concept, they just need to be brought up to modern standards. The worst part of the ancient HE spears/archers isn't even the heads it's the massive ogre hands.
>>

>>97718329
The cone heads are super kino and suitably Warhammer silly imo. You can look at Swordmasters as modernish kits that use the coneheads that look really good. The art looks great too, the concept is good. They just need to be modernized because the old HE core is simply extremely old. Modernized but not changed in concept.

>>
>>97718385
Nothing, I think it's just the troll spreading more negativity. He stopped his his angle and now he's just going to be negative in general. If it's someone who enjoys earlier editions of fantasy genuinely it's very simple for him to produce a single timestamped model, but he can't so instead like here >>97718394 he will write many more posts dodging posting models because he doesn't own any.
His goal is simply to spread negativity regarding here in any way he can, hence why the easiest way to out him is to ask him to do something he can't, produce a single model.

Why are trolls size so inconsistent? Sometimes they are maybe a head or so taller than a human and other times, they look bigger than even ogres, like pic related which looks around 12-15 feet. Fucking massive beasts.
>>
>>97718772
The simplest explanation is simply GW being inconsistent throughout the decades. In universe you could explain it in multiple ways. Chaos Trolls of course being mutated and warped and allowed to grow larger than normal trolls because of the warping effects of chaos. But other breeds of trolls probably have different baseline sizes, which then further can vary by nutrition during the developmental phases of their growth. Kind of like how humans hundreds of years ago were much shorter than we are today simply because of poorer nutrition but having the same genes.

>>97718797
Yeah that makes sense honestly. Still, as much credit as pther monsters get, I think trolls are underrated. Both in fluff and tabletop. They get killed regularly by troll slayers and such but "objectively" based off the TT extraction, they're stronger than minos and ogres and supposedly one troll is enough to get a village to relocate.

Also i think even Alien tier acidic vomit would threaten even chaos warriors. Hell just recently im planning on fielding them. Saw 4 trolls tear asunder a unit something serious.
>>

Most slayers literally die by hands of trolls. Dwarf slayers literally hunt trolls because they are very tough opponent.
Unless we are talking here about slayers that explicitly call themselves troll slayers for killing a troll.

Chaos has come to the Old World once again in yet another tournament! This time, I played three games at my usual haunt using my usual list. 2000 points of Warriors of Chaos, with a juiced to the gills daemon prince with the Ogre Blade, Armour of Meteoric Iron, and four levels of wizardry and Dark Magic, a sorcerer lord who exists solely to cast Steed of Shadows and The Summoning, an exalted champion with the Cackling Blade, a big block of 19 chaos warriors, 10 marauders with flails, some dogs, five chosen knights, and a chariot. The first battle of the day was against the much (and rightfully so!) maligned Wild Herd. My opponent had two great shamans, three less great ones, a beastlord, and a bsb, along with just a shitload of gors and ungors, two razorgors (who were plague toads), some harpies, and a herdstone. For once, I did not deploy like a total donkey, my warriors were protected on their flanks by my knights and my chariot and my marauders were keeping my sorcerer lord safe while my daemon prince and his little retinue of forsaken held the left side of the board. We were fighting over our baggage trains and three objectives in the middle of the board. Naturally, as I was playing Chaos, I ran everything up as far as I could on turn one, including Dehumanizer, my daemon prince. This would wind up being a catastrophic mistake, as I foolishly (and very smugly) flew Dehumanizer a little too close to the herdstone and the four shamans clustered around it. Suffice to say, he was not able to dispel the Viletide cast at +4 that was sent his way, and with an obscene roll of 22 hits and 8 6s to wound, he was sent shrieking back to the Realm of Chaos on the first turn of the game! Even his mighty 4++ save could do nothing to stop the bugs and spiders biting him to death. 495 points, damn near a quarter of my army, gone before it could do literally anything. A painful blow to be sure, but surely things had to get better from here.
>>
>>97719559

But no! No they didn't! Everything just got worse! More Viletides were cast and my chariot exploded in a wave of gnawed timber and corroded metal, which is to say nothing of the horses and the crewmen, who didn't even have time to scream (or whinny) in horror as every last one of their orifices was filled with bugs while my sorcerer lord hung on for dear life with a single wound remaining. Not even my warriors and Ormos, my exalted champion, were able to do anything to the horde of gors, led by two great-shamans, a beastlord and a BSB, and not only did they run screaming for their mothers after a single round of combat they were caught and cut down while doing so. Pathetic! At least my knights, dogs, and marauders were putting up a good fight, with the knights and dogs annihilating a dragon ogre shartak and a razorgor and my marauders making agonizingly slow work of a pack of harpies. Suffice to say, the game was a disaster, but a very fun start to the day. My opponent was a great dude who would go on to win the entire tournament, so perhaps this was just bad luck. Game 2 would surely be different!

And it did. Sort of, for a while at least. I was up against an army I had faced before, a force hailing from Cathay that had been supplemented by the new wizard model, some peasants, and a second sky lantern. I won't sugar coat it: I fucked up real bad! I underestimated how quick a hot air balloon could be and blundered away Dehumanizer once again by having him fly over a house only to get promptly double charged by a sky lantern and a shugengan lord who just so happened to have a magic weapon seemingly designed to just shit on daemon princes. No saves for Dehumanizer, not today, and he got clarted immediately. Once again, he died on the first turn. From there, my luck seemed to be taking a turn for the better, as one of my opponent's artillery pieces misfired and exploded and the rest of his shooting failed to inflict a single wound on any of my models for two turns. Unfortunately, this turn of events was not enough, as on turn four his cannons exploded my chariot (Seriously, that stupid thing has not done anything in 14 games now. It's inflicted a sum total of 7 impact hits since I painted it! I hate it!) Oh yeah, and his special Cathay wizard, who gets to re-roll spellcasts for some reason, just got to cast whatever he wanted for the whole game because Sathulon, my sorcerer lord, is a useless boob. His incompetence would finally come to an end when he got flattened by a cannonball. However, don't take this salt-filled post to be indicative of anger. My opponent was a lovely player and taught me a lot during the game about what I was doing wrong and how I should be playing if I wanted to win. Great guy! I've played him several times now and each game has been a lot of fun. Again, a horrible loss for Chaos, though I did manage to score something like 900 points off of objectives and that cannon misfiring and exploding itself. Oh yeah, and my chosen knights avenged Dehumanizer by barely eking out a kill after three rounds of combat. On to game 3!
>>
>>97719802

Let me preface this post by saying that game 3 was both infuriating and extremely cool. I was up against someone who had brought their lovingly painted historical army (War of the Roses, iirc) out to give TOW a try and I had a great time. This being said, holy shit, I have no idea how Dehumanizer got to become a daemon prince, because this useless twat took four turns to kill a measly human general, represented by a model of Joan of Arc. Four turns! This flying butthole of a daemon "prince" was wielding the Ogre Blade and he took four turns to kill some woman riding a horse! All while he was hanging on with a single wound, because, naturally, a historical army has a lot of shooting and he just refused to pass any of his saves. 5+/4++/5+++ means nothing if your dice betray you. Oh yeah, and after killing Joan, he still lost combat and got exploded by his patented daemonic instability. Anyway, my daemon prince's incompetence set aside, the rest of the game was super sick. The scenario had us deploy on the corners of the table and we were fighting over baggage trains and the bog in the center of the board. As you can probably expect, my warband just got shot to death a lot. My knights fought valiantly on the left flank and actually managed to chase some of the knights off the board. Meanwhile, my chariot charged into some sellswords, inflicted zero wounds, fell back in good order, and then got shot to death. My sorcerer lord finally managed to cast something and sent my warriors hurtling across the field of battle on ghost horses, but that did literally nothing besides move them up 3" away from my opponent's gun (bow?) line and I shouldn't need to explain what happened next. The handful of warriors who didn't get their wigs split by bolts and arrows got impaled by spears while my marauders, who were cowering behind that house, got run down by the knights after taking three turns to kill some light cav. Another crushing defeat!

However, despite these three absolute failures, I somehow managed to not come in last place! Second to last is an improvement over how I usually perform in these tournaments, so that's nice. Anyway, some prizes were raffled after the event and I won an empire watchtower kit. I will be converting it into a chaos tower eventually, when I get around to it. Some final thoughts on this event: I don't know what's going on with my daemon prince, my sorcerer, and my chariot, but they just suck. They never do anything! Yeah, sure, I fucked up by being too cocky with Dehumanizer's positioning, but he literally did nothing even when I used him semi-correctly! Four wounds vanish in the blink of an eye even with a potent and borderline obscene 5+/4++/5+++ save. My wizards just never cast anything and they can't dispel worth a shit either. Sathulon got off maybe 2 The Summonings over the course of three games and even those two casts only killed a handful of models. What else... Wild Herd is disgusting, chaos warriors are awful but I like them so I'll always use them, the Cackling Blade is super fun and even though I didn't bring it up in my posts it's by far my favourite magic weapon, and I had a lot of fun despite all my bitching and complaining. A great time was had by all! And I got my hands on some plastic unarmoured horses from the store the event was held in, so I will be painting up some marauder horsemen in the near future. I've been told by you animals (read: lovely anons) that horsemen are good, so I'll give them a try. Thanks for reading, sorry for taking up so many posts, enjoy the rest of your evening. Here's a collage of some more pictures from the event.

No one ever said that you can't use non GW models to play Fantasy. We just rebuke Perrynigger because he doesn't play Fantasy or use his models for any kind of Warhammer. He's never once posted a photo of his alleged models on any bases that would be appropriate for Warhammer.

Hence why he's persona non grata here. The problem isn't non GW models. It's him pushing non Fantasy models for non Fantasy games in a Fantasy general.

In any case, 5 mages with herdstone is WAAC. 5 orc weirdboys would also be just about as deadly with gaze of gork, but that extra from the herdstone pushes it over. I've killed more models with one gaze than I've ever killed with one hagtree viletide. That said, 8 wounds on a cast is obscene luck.

Also, semi-related, are slayer host armies allowed to bring 14 doomseekers? I thought you were limited to 3 of any one unit. One guy brought all those doomseekers and he did really well.

Does anyone know what happened when this guy ran into the imperishable after they turned into mummified people?https://warhammerfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Phar

I want to use him in my Tomb Kings fanfiction, but I’m not sure what his exact relationship with Settra should be. I’m thinking that after wronging his descendants, Settra finally achieves a decisive victory over him—one that isn’t cheapened by simply outliving him since they’re both mummies now. However, Settra allows Phar to remain King of Mahrak, seeing him as a worthy adversary who can be trusted to rule well, accept his defeat, and be wise enough not to side with the Necromancer against him. It would create a dynamic similar to what I often see in Dynasty Warriors: antagonistic, but with a grudging respect between them.
>>
>>97720663
Doom seekers are hilarious. But I do believe you can take a huge number of them. If they're truly naked, they are 50 pts each and 1000 pt limit, so 20.
Also, you only get points if they are still alive at the end of the game instead of killing them. Slayer host can run an army that roughly 1400 of their own pts have to die for them to win.

Same with Brets, both knights and peasants. I'm using 4th/5th edition knight heads exclusively, but I've settled for Claymore Castings infantry because $120 for 10 infantry is the most semitic pricing I've ever seen, and I don't want manlet recasts.

Anyone have a pet sub faction they really have an attachment too?

Ive for a long time been partial to the knights of the everlasting light. they have like 3 blurbs across the whole of warhammer fantasy, but something about them just draws me to them. Me being a fan of white blue and gold doesn't hurt, being a fan of Verena the goddess of truth and justice, and the fact that they are the default inner circle knights for some reason in the BOTET mod for medieval 2. But really its the core schtick of them being an order of don quixotes. They are particularly chivalrous and concerned with just conduct and lost causes, but they are cursed with bad luck. whatever they do they are likely to get a splinter in the two or a troll butt to the head. But it will be a glorious series of unfortunate events whatever it is.

I also just like the idea that things inexplicably break or go tits up wherever they go. for anyone involved, friend or foe. like they have an aura of bad luck that affects EVERYONE in their vicinity. So they might be treated like the plague. Though potentially a useful plague if they are in the midst of enemies and a meteor inexplicably strikes their exact coordinates. Often having a "well if I am doomed, might as well bring a few foes down with me" attitude. A little Slayer like. But a little less grim and a little more fatalistically jolly. Like a jolly British officer who just so happens to break his leg and have building collapse around him more often than seems reasonable. "Keep a stiff upper lip chaps!"

If I get the chance to play WFRPG, I would love to create a "misfortune" table that kind of acts like a "miscast" table for them. ranging from "No matter how much you polish your armor, there is a little smudge that will not disappear" to "A meteor is bond to impact your position in t minus 5 minutes".
>>
>>97719591
Kill yourself
>>
>>97720975
>>97721019
Kinda off topic but I really really hope the next edition of TOW makes the miscast table much larger and much nastier. It's far too forgiving currently.
>>
>>97721047
Agreed. Misfire is fine, miscast is utterly inconsequential even for my retarded madlad Outcast Wizard.
>>
>>97721047
I agree, I have an entire laundry list of improvements for the game that not a single player would hate. But alas, TOW is but a vehicle to sell us models and gw has no interest in making a perfect game
>>
>>97721059
It seems like a pretty common complaint, they seem to listen, but very slowly. So I have hope for the future.
>>
>>97721047
Going down the hole should come back. They should also bring back power and dispel dice, as it presently stands the miscast table is neutered to the point of being functionally irrelevant, especially if your wizard isn't in a unit, and there's no reason not to cast as many spells as you possibly can.
TOW's entire magic system is currently paying for the sins 8th's spell lores committed. It doesn't have to be this way.
>>
>>97720975
>>97720975
I think it's just a play on the idea that those who champion lost causes often fight losing battles
>>
>>97721109
I agree, I would also like the power and dispel dice to be reintroduced. But I don’t know if that’s a realistic change we can look forward too. I’m going to keep bringing up the miscast table as I think that’s realistic for next edition. And how they reign in wizards slinging multiple spells is beyond me. Channeling dice would be the clearest, but I think it’s complicated enough for GW to want to avoid it.
>>
>>97721290
well, they are not known for LOSING, just for bad luck. You are unlikely to die in your sleep as a knight of the everlasting light, more likely from a falling beam, or a trip down the stairs, but they seem to have still been militarily effective. I think the grandmaster was effective enough to have been considered to take on the de facto control of an elector count’s army, but the young count refused and lost due to his inexperience.

I agree and I could also be described by those two terms, but it's something that you should still keep in mind. I've chopped up and converted some of my metal miniatures, don't get me wrong, but I do think there is some merit in keeping them as is, or at least in damaging them as minimally as possible. Cut away appendages/heads/whatever cleanly, hang on to the removed pieces, re-use them for something else, that sort of thing.

I don't mean to be mean but this is pretty retarded tbqhwy. The lore could definitely do to be dirtied up a bit, it's too sanitized for fear of offending xi, but the army itself I think is perfectly fine.

Lads i am torn. Torn about Ghouls.

Do i paint them modern pale as the moon with blood stained forearms? 90's straight up human flesh? or classic lovecraft green ghoulies?

>Do i paint them modern pale as the moon with blood stained forearms? 90's straight up human flesh? or classic lovecraft green ghoulies?

Mix it up with all three, would make a large group of them on the field look more vibrant, like if multiple groups of ghouls have amassed under the command of a vampire or necromancer

>>

Which is really stupid, because everything else they've written about Chaos in TOW ties it all straight back go the big 4. We don't get Great Chaos, we don't get Chaos Undivided, we don't get the Unnameable, all we get is "I'm an indecisive little bitch, so I choose to worship all four Chaos gods because that's what it takes to become the Everchosen!". Chaos Undivided used to mean something, man.
I've ranted about this before. Several times, even. Perhaps I'm growing old. It's dumb. GW is stupid for attempting to do this. They're going to keep making Chaos lame out of either spite or retardation and I hate it. They had something special and then they pissed it all away during 6th. What a shame.

Nobody truly cares because they're not Space Marines, but different colors used to mean "different courts".

White+Red were Morgaunt, the "we love the plebs" mass infantry faction (see the Crypt Haunter and Crypt Flayers on the webstore).

Green+Grey were Hollowmourne, the "we are the noblest aristocrats" elite faction (see the Grymwatch)

Grey + Tattoo were Gristlegore (the "all monsters of the menagerie" faction).

Red burnt cracked skin was Blisterskin (the "we fly and worship the Sun" faction).

I don't have the most recent battletome though.

Vampires dont surprise me because they are simply too popular at ToW events for GW not to see pound signs in their eyes, but man it just feels so odd that Ogres are mentioned so much as the arseholes outside cathays western walls to the point there are new ogres in the cathay army and its the OK gut place kind and to not get them back feels like a real blank space on the map y'know?

Duh, I did not think about that! Thank you, anon.
One reason I am hesitant to rebase them is the headache it was to get some of them ranked up on the first place. They are 5th edition with halberd/shield and double hand weapon, I have parts to make a sword/board regiment also.
>>
>>97725661
This is what I assume is the case as well. From AoS rumors it looks like they are turning ogres into cavemen led by women ogres, so Fantasy may have a chance of regaining kino mongol nomad ogres.
>>
>>97725661
I guess. I imagine they probably plan to bring back i.e rebox 2 armies per year like how last year was all beastmen and to a lesser extent wood elves and orcs/dwarves before that and brets/tk before that.

Question of course is if 2027 is ogres who is the other one? both lizardmen and skaven would be popular but also feel the most "they are aos armies now" of the legends line.
>>
>>97725673
bare in mind they increased the base size purely for greater ease of basing and ranking. I've not had a single case of "foot hanging over base" or "guys weapon pushing everyone around him over" since i used the WHFB basing sizes, its made a world of difference.

Discipline and joy.

You must do what sparks joy and do it until it does. If that is painting one dude to minimum 3 colours so you can game, do it. If that is an entire legion of free company militia with OSL then do it.

Set a goal that you will enjoy then complete that goal. If you no longer enjoy it by the end, try a different goal next. Seek joy and have the discipline to find it.

I’d personally split the 30 gors into two 15 blocks, but there’s nothing wrong with it. Your single pig might get blown off the board before it can do anything depending on what you’re fighting though.
>>
>>97728605
Keep the gors in one block. You'll win every combat off of CR alone. The other anon is right that 2 15-gor blocks would be more appropriate for a smaller game, but if you want to win (which I'm assuming you do, seeing as you're playing beastmen) keep them as a death star.
>>
>>97728764
Thanks, I was thinking about seperating 10 gors in a skirmish unit.

I'd go with 20 gors and another set of ungors. Ungors can screen for the chariot and they hold obj better than Gors. Gors want to fight not stand in place. 2 15s ungors with bows, 20 gors with dual weapons.
I'd say the minotaurs are better with dual weapon too, but great weapon is fine as well. Personal taste.

If you've already got them WYSIWYG and that's the models you have, that's perfectly good. I'd say 20 and 10, run the 10 Gors in skirmish so they can hunt flankers. 360 charge with warband and 2-3 attacks each can usually break anything that wants to give your backside a tickle.

>Nothing is funnier than see TOW fans think they're somehow any different from Siggers and 40kucks.
The key difference is that TOW has a much healthier 3rd party scults/proxy culture. Nobody cares and a lot of people like when their opponents use non-GW stuff. Meanwhile 40k players were spamming the new Custodes reveal stream with "I WISH I COULD USE THESE IN 40k!"

>Do you not realize GW has the exact same business model for all of their products?
They don't, because as you see from the TOW reinforcement army sets and the Horus Heresy (idk what they are called) boxes like the Custodes the business model is quite different.
40k and AoS are more popular and thus get worse deals. Battleforces with maybe 1-2 new sculpts and the rest old stock. Meanwhile TOW and HH being specialist games get better deals with boxes full of only new models for lower prices. I don't know how you miss that the business model is clearly different between the main games and specialist games.

>There's plenty of aos/40k boxes with only new stuff, and plenty of tow boxes with only old stuff
Again read my post. I am talking about the battleforces/reinforcement boxes (and whatever they are called in HH). The deals are better not just because it's a new system (HH has been around for a while) but because it's specialist games. The target audience is different. 40k and AoS customer bases will buy up whatever slop they put out, so they price gouge them more than people who play TOW/HH/mesbg. The target audience for specialist games is older hobbyists who otherwise would not give GW any money because they don't like 40k/AoS for whatever reason.
Specialist games are there to capture the people who used to play 40k pre 8th and who used to play Fantasy pre AoS. That's why the deals are better, because the target customer base is more experienced and price sensitive.

I do have to disagree with the price being better because they're trying to court veteran players or anything, I think it's rather them making the sidegames more appealing because they're smaller. Similar to how aos is much cheaper than 40k from a points per dollar perspective.

It's both but they absolutely are courting the older audience because TOW is the same core Fantasy game as it was pre AoS. HH is the same core 40k game pre 8th and mesbg has not changed in terms of its core rules since it released like 25 years ago.

Just to add to this, 40k and AoS are closer to one another gameplay wise than 40k and HH, AoS and TOW.

For WFRP4, they cracked and threw in a high magic lore in the high elf player guide. But unlike the dark magic lore in corsairs of captain fla-whatever, they didn't put a lore attribute in that I can see. Anyone know if there's any errata or rules bolting one in yet? I thought it might be a ward save for each channelling action - 10+, 9+, etc, but that's in a spell, sort of.
