I'm with you on not cheaping out on stuff that could make a kid happy but come the fuck on the 3 in 1 castle for example is a fantastic decent size Lego set for just like $120, get two of those and you have a good amount of Lego for the kid to play with. Fuck I don't spend $1000 on myself for Lego, it's nice that kid gets nice presents but don't blow your wad in one go.

To elaborate on >>11678824, I have an idea that might be kinda out there.I'm really into the End of Eva version of the 02 design, but only one figure exists and it's like 20 years old and pretty expensive online.
So I'm considering grabbing a RD Eva-02 and painting some of its parts to match the End of Eva version. After comparing the 2 it actually appears that the EoE design is closer to the rebuilds than I thought, so sculpt wise there wouldn't need to be too many adjustments.
Is this idea too far out there or is this feasible? I've painted and sculpted gunpla before, but I'm not sure how similar the plastic of RDs is and I wonder if there's any precautions I should take since they're not designed to be customized like that.

me personally yes, I costed out what Snail Shell's Kitsunebi Senki Honoka would roughly cost from Amiami compared to my local store.
for me, post the shipping and import taxes it would land at roughly 140 usd (I am not American so its not what you would pay) and locally they'd sell it for 150 with free shipping, and the local store is easier to work with in case of issues, so yeah local stores from now on, I'm only gonna use Mandarake and maybe Amiami for in stock second hand stuff from now on and even then that will be rare.

The Classified series killed off the old schoolers for the most part. Just a handful of us left. The 'deth of da line' actually happened for us in quiet, and it was a multitude of reasons, mostly from Hasbro. I wouldn't count out those annoying, exclusive, custom making faggits who made spin off forums and didn't want any 'outsiders' in from ruining the community. People splintering off and being cunts. Shitty mods at CustomJoes and HissTank did plenty too. Shills had also went too far, pushing crappy movie figures and repaints as great. One of my favorite sites were JoeDios and Checkpoint Alpha. Other fandoms regularly replace oldfags with newfags. TMNT, Marvel, DC, etc have a constant influx of newbies entering the fandom. They create new communities (discord, tiktok, etc), fill in to the old communities (forums), and they're as vibrant as they were in the 00s despite how much things change.

I think there's way more activity when it comes to the comics than there is for toys, and that's super fucking strange since the comics side always felt lax compared to the toy side. The comics were a bigger hit with fans than the new movie or video games. And despite the comics hitting it big with fans, that hasn't translated into more toy discussion.
In fact, there seems to be little crossover between the comic and toy fans. Toy fans seem to keep to themselves and are mostly unaware aware of what's going on in the current comics, unlike before or other comic based toy franchises. Who knows if the comic fans even buy modern GI Joes, since their discussions are heavily nostalgia-based.

And Hasbro isn't helping, because they aren't cross promoting shit like they used to either.

Oldschool fan here. I collect both as best as I can. We're not going anywhere. That's why the 80s stuff keeps its prices up. That's why all the demand for Classified is 80s-derived stuff instead of it being an entirely new line like "GI Joe Extreme" or "GI Joe Sgt Savage." We're probably the biggest backers of it, especially the expensive stuff. If we're dip-shit enough to spend $2 grand on a shuttle or aircraft carrier, then Hasbro knows they can put us on the hook for a $400 HASLAB.

It's not in a particularly great state to be honest. Hasbro has all but driven the Nerf brand to the ground, constantly introducing new proprietary ammo dart types in an effort to prevent cross compatibility because somehow in their heads that means more sales. Not to mention the constant reskins, almost 70% of the N-Series blasters are Ward reskins. And then you have the other brands, they're great for being aimed towards hobbyist and likes to standardize ammo dart type as well as accessory mounting points and having excellent performance. But not much about them are appealing for kids who are the ones that primarily play with dart blasters. The ceiling is too high for most kids unless they know what they're doing and who are only in the minority compared to the rest. Dart blasters just don't have the same appeal they use to anymore.

Yea, the super "high performance" Pro model stuff or constant comparison to home made 3d printed blasters more or less nuked any possible discussion of foam blasters. They're really not as fun anymore and none of these new ones have any cool but useless gimmicks or themes. When you aim for performance you'll eventually start to hit plateaus and everything will just start to become homogenized and boring. There's a reason why so many Nerf Blasters are just "Stryfe but with extra junk", because it was such a solid platform to build around but none of those additions actually made the blasters better.

It's also what killed the Rival line, once you get into the realm of 200 round full auto blasters that are easy to load and work off re-chargeable batteries, where can you even go from there? Everything just starts to retread old ground and come up short in comparison where performance is concerned.

I was hoping Nerf finally bending and accepting the Half Dart in their little Franken-stryfe release would help spur them into a second renaissance or sorts where they'd go crazy making weird, wacky, sometimes impressive half dart blasters. Lean into the new ammo type to make Blasters they couldn't make before. Instead they just stopped trying entirely.

And I own my ignorance but it's more than just a lack of knowledge. I'm not going to collect every possible thing that might potentially interest me or appeal to me. I want swords and space blasters for the toys I ALREADY OWN. I'm actually going to start selling off some of my statues and other collectibles and just focus purely on articulating figures.

I'm not interested in going down rabbit holes and investing into entirely new lines and franchises and the like. This is a good way for me to be prudent since I'd still rather buy expensive red wine and Japanese whiskey instead of a $200 import bit of plastic crack. Dinner out in a metro area isn't cheap, either.

I appreciate you're being interesting and challenging. And politely engaging in conversation. But you aren't going to lure me to the dark side. It's great when people don't just have four walls of crowded shelves all with fifty billion batman or fifty billion spidermen or fifty billion son gokus or waifu/coomer figurines, but actually have a variety. But that's also not going to be me - either of those visions.

I knew when I got older that my behavior as a kid, where I used to save old magazines and collect shitty Duck and other cheap comic books, with boxes and stacks of paper in my childhood bedroom, that I had addictive behaviors. I've gone through spending small mints hording import records while in school, graphic novels and omnibus editions as an teen and also in school to adulthood, steel books and complete season DVDs and BluRay as an older adult, etc. and once I sold all that stuff off, I've never looked back (well, I have an excellent set of digital pirated comics, movies and music but my out of pocket costs is limited to a few external drives).

Plastic crack is just my current crack. And I have a system that works well for me. And I don't really need to go outside it.

man, but sometimes you NEED that specific accessorry that comes from some random McStatue. This is where the majority of my oldass Mcstatue purchases come from.

I dunno if you're seen my Game of Throne McFarlane legos sets that i bought, but the minifigures those building block sets came with sorely needed a dragon to head their army, and this dragon rider is roughly their height.
I've also bought that Matrix stair set diorama by McFarlane, along with their military figures just for their guns. I've bought oldass Spawn movie playsets, because they're ~1:18 scale. I've bought McFarlane Conan figures for swords, thrones, and shields.
Why wait for some company to make an accessory pack when there's thousand of toys that already exist that that come with beautifully painted accessories?
