I want to build my own Justice League. Should I wait for McFarlane to lose the license, or cave in and buy their figures? Which figures are the best? I'm open to creating the league from different iterations, like having a Reeve Superman side by side with a Bale Batman. It all depends on which figures are the best for each character. I’m leaning toward making the DCAU league roster, though I know they made some DCAU figures—I just don’t want those.

Since no one cared about my post last thread, I ask again...

I have a preference for LEGO; however, given that LEGO currently offers a limited selection of DC sets, I am considering collecting DC figures instead. I would prefer to avoid high-priced items, such as those from the Multiverse line.

I am contemplating whether to pursue the Spin Master DC 4-inch figures or the Mattel Imaginext DC figures. Which option would be the superior choice in terms of price and quality?

Do you see McFarlane updating or changing the articulation and engineering on his figures any time soon? They look decent, not too far off from Mafex if I had to be desu, but they can look a bit awkward and unnatural when put into some sort of dynamic pose. I might be in the minority here, but I'm happy with how the license is split between Spin Master (all the kids' stuff), Mattel (Imaginext), and McFarlane (collector's items).

I think all three do a good job. I'd rather have it like this than have one company hold the master license and produce everything, like Hasbro does with Marvel.

If I can read the tea leaves a bit, I feel like the reason Spinmaster went the normal 3 year renewal to end of 2026 while McFarlane only went to the end of 2025 was because either WB or McFarlane was not 100% satisfied with renewing for the full 3. Either maybe McFarlane wasn't bringing in enough in per figure sales $$$ or McFarlane was not sure DC was a good long term bet and maybe wanted to stick it out til the Superman movie. They could judge based on how well that does whether they renew. Because the line is doing its best to co-exist and build on the original 80s line instead of just retreading characters (and designs) we have. Batman and Superman or chase variants aside there's been about 25 new characters that weren't featured in the original line, and on top of that the McFarlane line introduces a character from the original series with a new design before retreading one from the SP line.

Even Hal Jordan. We got John first, and then when they did Hal he was in a different shade of green than the original figure. I think the only exception to this was Riddler but that original figure is a meme toy that pretty much every Super Powers inspired line pays homage to eventually.

When I was a kid I had my brother's old Super Powers toys handed down to me and some of my favorite childhood memories are playing with those toys. Especially the Hall of Justice, which later became home to all my Total Justice and JLA figures.

The McFarlane line lacks the fun playfeatures, but if your kid has a decent imagination he'll have fun. It really doesn't matter what line you get him though. If you sit down and play with him he'll have fun.
