At least before it started falling apart and creating memory leak areas like the polygonal chaos.

One of the top 10 in no specific order experiences I had was stumbling on a level and finding a see-through pipe towards the middle, being stunned because I knew what it was supposed to be, and than looking back to realize this was an upsized Mario 3D World level I had been romping through. Quite immersion breaking from a theoretical story standpoint, but it adds to the dream feeling.There's always something around every corner. Just when you think you've seen it all, you enter a painting and get hit with yee-haw yippie-ki-yay music in a Monty Mole village. Or find a comically happy village filled with joyful NPC's that's reminiscent of Wet-Dry World and you get spooked that something terrible will happen, and then nothing bad happens. Or finding the spooky maze in the castle with creepypasta paintings. Or realizing an eyeless Peach portrait was over a door you had exited dozens of times but never turned around to notice. I could probably boot up the rom and stumble on something I've never seen before by just walking around. It's a great time.
