Rogue Ond fans are so desperate to portray their addiction to a family-focused space opera franchise as mature and well written they will latch onto anything which is not Rebels-tier writing. Barely better than the other kind of star wars fans who are overwhelmed by emotional distress when their favourite character Glub Shitto gets a cameo.

Why would the machine go to the effort of climbing over the counter and physically beating the owner to death, which is noisy for a longer period of time, could draw more attention, and requires more time and effort than just shooting the store owner? Finally you have to remember the budget, additional shots, even if it's just an insert of Dick Miller's face covered in blood takes time and money. The scene as presented in the film is the best version of that scenario.
