I keep being told that anime is better than ever, but where are the modern equivalents of 80s/90s/00s Ghibli, Monster, the works of Satoshi Kon, Mamoru Oshii, End of Eva, etc?

And yet, anime is still clinging to conventions, techniques, and cliches that were part of the 2D constraints. True artists should abandon anime and try to come up with something totally new that uses CG art to its fullest extent -- and along the fault lines of the medium's constraints, that is where they will find the shape of an exciting new style.
