This is a large portion of the movie going audience too, but the artist who understands how the public feels is not selling his scripts, he's not being allowed to make studio films. One of the most talked about shows recently is fujoshi shit, aka Heated Rivalry, and all that shows you is specificity massively outweighs so called "mainstream appeal". Appealing to specific groups of people seems to breed success far more than jack of all trades, master of none. And I can see more media taking on the Japanese/Korea approach.
