I stopped whaling years ago, but it's always there. It's dormant for now. Like a recovered alcoholic, there's always the possibility of saying "fuck it", and returning to the gorging lifestyle that was so terrible for my body and my life. I'll always struggle with weight. I always have. The only diet that has been able to work long term is low-carbohydrate. Because I don't get hungry or overeat on it. Do I miss starches and sweets? Sure. But a junkie misses heroin too. You have to be stronger than your addiction. I buy a dozen donuts I'll eat them all in two days. So I don't buy them. I avoid all that stuff. What I do eat is decadent and fatty and satisfying, and that makes up for what I'm missing, which is really often bad food with chemicals and preservatives. I feel a whale-out coming on the horizon though. It's been too long. Years. I could have a hot pizza here in 30 minutes if I wanted. Gotta resist that urge. Make a nice steak in butter with some grilled asparagus. Then the pizza store closes. Safe another night.
