In later seasons the conflict starts coming from the main character (Carmy) trying too hard to be cutting-edge through a rapidly changing menu, this makes costs run high and makes consistency difficult, which causes brigade dissatisfaction and causes a couple of bad reviews. The show is definitely worth a watch, just be aware that a lot of S3/S4 is complete filler, including a whole episode about a supporting cast member having a baby and almost an entire episode about Sydney (the black chef) babysitting her cousin’s kid. Just mind numbing drivel completely unrelated to the show’s premise. S1 and the first 2/3’s of S2 are actually pretty god.

It wasn't terrible especially considering it was written and directed by a woman. A bit long winded though and certainly overrated.It's about as good as an average british crime TV show (not a really good one) except stretched out too long.
is season 1 the best? where exactly does the show fall off? personally i caught almost every episode until around season 5 or 6 when castielle became a main character

I liked them all but my mind is flexible enough to like multiple things. First couple seasons were great and with great music. At some point they realized the biggest audience for the show was teenage girls so they dropped the music and made the stories safer. Then it just gets into a long slog with some meta episodes but still pretty good and comfy. At the end they started bringing the classic rock back but at that point they were no linger just fighting random demons but had defeated god and his sister so it could never be like it was at the beginning.
