After I read it again I recognized that this book is written by a MAN living far after the events of the story. His sources are two conflicting, unreliable MEN. Westeros is an extremely patriarchal society. History gets distorted and warped over time. You add the two of those things together, and you get an exaggeration of qualities and events. Rhaenyra could have been the best ruler Westeros had seen, but a woman will always be seen differently as a man- especially in a society like this. It’s no wonder she’s absolutely awful in the book- but that doesn’t mean it’s the reality.

My favorite part is when Aemon says the thing to Baemon, and Caemon walks in and Daemon laughs. Everyone just looks at each other and then Eaemon stumbles in drunk and pukes all over Faemon. That's when Gaemon punches Haemon in the face, making him fall in to Jaemon. The whole thing was falling apart until Kaemon blew the horn, giving the floor to Laemon, where he called out Maemon because he stole the wife of Naemon, but she said she actually loved Paemon. The whole hall fell in to silence for a bit. Shortly after Maester Qaemon came in with a message that Raemon was under siege and is petitioning for assistance. Nobody wanted to offer help until Saemon spoke forth and said it is their duty, than all one after another Taemon, Vaemon and Waemon came forth in support. Forcing Xaemon to accuse Yaemon of treason. Which is when the King looked in to camera and said, it's Zaemon time.I really liked that part

He went from a prep school prince destined to enjoy life and the sole dragon rider of the Reach to...king maybe at his most depressing moment.I personally would've compounded the tragedy even more by having him gain a connection with Vaegon and let him die too, even sprinkle in table talk rumours about Jaehaera or his mom/sister being whored out to put salt on the wound.Its a fucking shame they're speed running the story and definitely not including this. It would've been perfect if we got an pre Honeywine character arc of Daeron going from a timid boy to Daeron the Daring. Vaegon has a change of heart due to uncovering a maester conspiracy and brings Tessarion to the city or builds Daeron a dragon saddle so that he can "be a dragon". Takes some legwork in season 1 to set it up but it's pretty kino especially if you have Vaegon stabbed to death by masked Maesters after Daeron leaves for what he did.I hope you remember my posts about the Maester conspiracy subplot and the other reach stuff so it doesn't look like I'm rambling.
