someone must have seen it. thoughts?
Angst (1983) anon. I will now proceed to watch Angst (1983).
>>200558537Most complaints seem to be that it's slow and not scary, but still everyone has been praising Russell Crowe's performance. I think people were expecting over-the-top movie like Pope's Exorcist, and have been too harsh on this. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm sure that I will enjoy it.
>>200558695It's hard to imagine Crowe doesn't bring something to the table, at least enough to watch.
>>200558580Based
>>200558765I hope he keeps doing horror.

Yesterday I watched Lake Mungo, it was fantastic. Really enjoyed the tragic aspect of the story, how the supernatural was a vehicle for a human drama while remaining unnerving and subtle. What do you guys think of the film? Are there any other films that you know of that could scratch that same itch?

>>200559034The last exorcism
>>200559101that is a cool poster. haven't seen it yet but it sounds like a classic.
>>200559034there's a ton of found footage films like that, but if you want a non FF one, The Innkeepers is a chill film I like.
>>200559034I enjoyed Lake Mungo, and Ring 1998 has a kind of similar feel to me.I also second the rec of The Last Exorcism.
>>200559091More of a mockumentary than found footage. For example, I knew that the characters being interviewd would make it alive to the end.>>200559111>>200559194>>200559159Thanks for the recommendations.
>The Last Exorcism (2010)>The Exorcism (2024)
>>200559240Ghostwatch is also an awesome found footage film with a live mockumentaryish feel. Blair Witch Project is obviously essential viewing.but Horror in the High Desert is one someone shilled recently and when I think about it, is the most mockumentary of all ff mockumentaries. that's prob one I'd check out.
>>200559289I watched Ghostwatch after other anons compared it with Late Night with the Devil and they were right, it was better. I loved it. Also, one of my lighbulbs went dark while watching the movie and it freaked me out a little. I've also seen Blair Witch and liked it a lot. I have never heard of Horror in the High Dessert but you've gotten me curious now, I'll check it out. Thanks.
>>200559356Ghostwatch is incredible with that frame of reference. It was a kooky one off television special, yet is more scary and entertaining that hundreds of movies attempting to do the same thing that after it.
>>200558537Saw it today. The setup is interesting, of all things it's really about alcoholism and child sex abuse in the church. But the horror elements are cliched to the max, and OF COURSE the daughter, the second main character, is a lesbian dating a black girl. Also there are barely any kill scenes and the character you want to see die the most the truly evil director who taunts him for having gotten raped, doesn't die. It's an all over failure, and Crowe looks stupid when he's possessed
>>200558580Masterpiece
Everyone said they hated Insidious Red Door, but it made a ridiculous amount of money at the box office. 190m from a 16m budget. I thought it was enjoyable because Patrick Wilson did his sentimental dad routine well again.anyway unsurprisingly there's gonna be another one in 2025.
>>200559595>Crowe looks stupid when he's possessednot his first time
>>200559765They do the oversized basedboy mouth gag AGAIN in this one. Plus the bending over backwards with bone cracking noises. They reuse all the fucking cliches.
>>200559843sound designers are really under undercriticized. I fucking hate hearing bug clicks, generic monster roars and screeches etc. These people completely phone it in.
>>200559843Kek. Apparently the director didn't even know The Pope's Exorcist was being filmed.
>>200559968What I heard was it started first, pandemic happened, then they came back and finished it 4 years later. Guess Crowe was just stuck in exorcist mode
>>200559356>Also, one of my lighbulbs went dark while watching the movieSpooky
>>200558580
>>200559034more like lake dungo hahahaha its stinky kaka poop>>200559194
>>200559451I wish I had seen it live. It must have been incredible. I've heard it compared to the tv version of Orson Well's War of the World Hoax and I believe it. It's sad that this kind of spectacle can't be reproduced like this anymore. Sure, online you've got ARGs, but the problem is that they are rarely seen as legitimate because they don't have the backing of traditional media. They carry on that spirit that that effect is just not coming back.
They should make a futuristic saw movie where it's in space like how other popular franchises have done. The cult of jigsaw kept his brain in safe keeping over the years while carrying on his work until technology became advanced enough to use his brain to create a bio-android. Now he lives again and can continue his games, pushing them further with new technologies he's never laid hands on before. Heavily de-age the actor since he's supposed to look uncanny since he's a droid now
>>200560224j1g5aw
>>200560224my Saw sequel would be that Jigsaw had built himself an automated mechsuit where his corpse sits, and from beyond the grave he stalks an arena which people are trapped. the twist is that he himself has become his own puppet
>>200560405Sweet Jesus the one in the stripes, fffuck
>>200560405flimographic?
Besides Tetsuo what are good 80s japanese horror movies, that aren't just plotless fake-snuff? There has to something, 60s, 70s and 90s all had lot of great j-horror. Don't get me wrong, ultra gory movies are fine, if there is something resembling a plot.
>>200560747apparently Evil Dead Trap is good, haven't seen it yet though. on my watchlist.
>>200560721>The Pumpkin ManIt's pretty bad and a little poz'd. It was clearly inspired by Pumpkinhead.

Did anyone watch all of the strangers chapters 1
>>200561296it was quite bad.
>>200561312Yeah I got 30 minutes into it, the start wasn't that bad
>>200561337I thought the start was the worst of it. The awful acting, the cliche "we dun like yer folk round here" bumpkins - and mostly, the incredibly weird idea that you would call your airbnb owner to fix a fridge at 9pm so you can cool a six pack of beer.
Angst was great. The old woman was impressive for letting herself be dragged around that much. I'm glad the dog survived.I feel like it would be good on a rewatch where I could just turn subtitles off and not worry about the dialog.

>>200558881>>200559101Have you seen Man Beast (1956)? Another cheesy 50's yeti movie. The version I saw streaming had an odd little skip during the big reveal though.

>>200558501It Follows 2 announced. Get hype.
>>200570973So we'll finally find out if what was following Jay & Paul was It or just a random person.
>>200570973Can the demon jump to a new victim through gay sex or does it have to be M/F? The obvious solution is have sex with one of your beta orbiters(as per the movie), have him to fly out to San Francisco, install Grindr, and have some guy plunder his bussy. Fags are so promiscuous they probably won't catch on that a demon is shadowing them before it spreads to the next host.
>>200571204Easier is to just fly to Japan, go to their red-light district, fuck a prostitute, and fly back. It would take an extreme amount of time for the entity to walk across the globe, kill all of them, and walk all the way back to you. Then you can just do it all over again.
>>200571204kek imagine that demone going like>god damn east west east west north south east west north just like moving in place all furstrated going fucking fags

>>200571596Hitchcock -> Nightmare -> Moon -> Demons
>>200571375Prostitutes feel like a less safe option than you'd think. >Fuck prostitute>Prostitute fucks the next John>John fucks his fat 50 year old wife(skip this step if the next John is an incel)>Wife doesn't cheat so demon kills her and her husband>Prostitute is taking the weekend off or something so it kills her>Back to you
>>200571981Thank you!
>>200572408The travel time across the globe for the entity would be long as fuck. How long does it take a person to walk from Japan to the US or Europe? Then you'd have to take into consideration that someone else could fuck that prostitute and travel back to their country, which would add more time.

"Cujo" is always being referenced in movies and tv to describe violent dogs. Is the movie that popular or famous to use that, or is the movie that good to use that?
Anyone else not looking forward to Terrifier 3? I mean, when you ramp up the edginess this far you're pretty much boxed into a corner. Art kills a kid? Meh. The Final Girl of the previous movie gets brutally dispatched early on? Done before. It's a Christmas movie so Art kills a family opening gifts on Christmas Day? Yawn.
>>200573824I watched it once but remember next to nothing about it.
>>200564545>>200565065>>200566088Kino name please?
>>200575860The first two are from The Machine Girl, which is a good TGP-style movie. The last one is Cinderella Game, a typical low budget Japanese elimination/death game movie.
>>200574296>Art kills a kid? Meh. The fun of these movies is to be as mean spirited and over the top as possible and even with that I don't think they have the balls to kill off the kid they teased in the trailer. Sure, Art killed the kids being babysat in All Hallow's Eve but it happened offscreen. If this girl dies it's going to be a very muted pussified death, if she get's a Terrifier 2 bedroom tier death scene that would be impressive, but I think they'll do something le ebin subversive (which actually wouldn't be subversive but very predictable) and let her live. Something like he just gives her a candy cane and then leaves.>The Final Girl of the previous movie gets brutally dispatched early on?She seems to be the director's pet project, I wish she would be the opening kill because I don't give a fuck about her but he's already set her up to be the descendant of some archangel that's destined to defeat Art the clown or whatever retarded shit went down at the end of the second movie, I don't remember, was awful.

>>200576396title pl0x
>>200577303>The DollIt's pretty boring, honestly. It's a ripoff of The Warrens, complete with a collection room. Goes way too much into Indonesian drama, which is just shit. The Doll 3 is the best out of the 4 in the series.
>>200558501Why are modern slasher masks so shit?Literally can't think of a single cool one from the last decade.
>>200558537Russell Crowe deserves better. And so do you. "The Exorcism" is a soul-crushing experience, not in a good, demonic way, but in a way that leaves you feeling like you've just spent two hours trapped in a damp basement with a flickering light bulb. The plot? It's about as fresh as last week's exorcism movie. Crowe plays a washed-up actor (typecasting much?) who takes a role in a cursed film about, shocker, an exorcism. Originality award goes to... someone else. The possession is a snoozefest, relying on tired tropes and Crowe sleepwalking through pea soup-thick makeup. The talented supporting cast suffers a similar fate, their characters as one-dimensional as a possessed child's drawing. The only scares you'll experience are from checking your watch and realizing you're still stuck in this cinematic purgatory. The film starts with a glimmer of hope, hinting at a clever self-aware angle. But just like a flickering candle in a demonic wind, that spark is extinguished quicker than you can say "The Exorcist" (the good one, not this pale imitation).Instead of chills, you'll get eye rolls at the predictable jump scares and forced religious symbolism. The pacing is slower than a possessed snail on valium, and the plot twists are about as surprising as finding out the priest wears a white collar.Do yourself a favor. Skip the popcorn and the exorcism. Watch paint dry, listen to your dentist explain root canals, heck, even stare at a wall for two hours. It will be a more thrilling and terrifying experience than subjecting yourself to this cinematic dumpster fire.

>>200577890I liked The Conference using the mascot head the victims brought with them. The killer stealing someone else's mask/putting their mask on a victim is a great trope every time
>>200577890I still like the mask idea of it being the person you're killing's face, in the movie There's Someone Inside Your House. Sadly, that movie is the wokest piece of shit ever made.

>>200563481Nightmare on elm street is a slasher
>>200579446nta, but the only bonus features I really like are the bloopers. Making Of is great when done well, like with RZ's Halloween. Most features tend to be pretty boring IMO.

>>200580069Interviews I don't like because I know they'll say what the company wants. It's always the same shit of everyone praising each other. SFX stuff can be good to see how it's done as long as it's practical effects. Showing a creature model on a computer screen isn't exciting.

I actually don't mind the newest timeline of Halloween. Halloween 2018 is one of the better sequels. It's easily better than 5,6,resurrection, and the rob zombie ones. Would say it's better than h20 slightly. Kills wouldn't even be terrible if they just released a new cut of it with the stupid mistaken identity crap taken out of it
>>200589441Kills is the only one of these shitty movies worth watching.2018 is just a shitty rehash of everything other movies have done before for the sake of nostalgiawank.Ends is meandering trash with some gay Michael protege plot that ultimately goes nowhere. At least Kills is a fun retarded slasher.
>>200587936Based, can't wait to download it
Roastie jeet man is currently shitting up /film/
>>200589575If you want to watch Halloween movies they aren't bad though, they are easily all mid tier compared to the franchise as a whole. Half of the movies are absolutely horrible. Halloween has better movies than f13, but f13 is far more consistent and only has like 1 absolute shit movie (Jason goes to hell)
>>200581558They took the best one off :(
>>200589909If I want to watch Halloween movies, I'd watch the original and ignore all the sequels.
>>200585145Based sharing anon.
>>200589928Then you're missing the point of slashers. It's too watch your favorite slasher get into new mischief
F13th series has at least twice as many good films as the Halloween series, but the original Halloween mogs all of them.
>>200590102What gets me with the rob zombie ones is the first one was like 2 fucking hours and wastes a whole hour on little faggot Mikey. Then the second one was just>I see my mommy on a white horse It was seriously gay af and lame. Like is he supposed to be a little baby?It really doesn't make sense why rz made a Halloween remake instead of just doing what he knows and doing Texas chainsaw massacre, that's literally his whole shtick
I recently rewatched the first 6 F13th movies and 2, 4, and 6 were really good. haven’t seen any of the halloween movies since i was a teenager probably. what are the best ones?
>>200589698Grim, but maybe we can have some peace and quiet for a few hours
>>200590435First six F13s ranked for me1=2 > 4 > 6 > 3 > 5I enjoy them all a lot, most of my top F13s are the first six.>haven’t seen any of the halloween movies since i was a teenager probably. what are the best ones?1 and 4.
>>200558883If I knew it wouldn't bore my mom to tears I'd make her watch it with me.
>>200589909>Halloween has better movies than f13, but f13 is far more consistent and only has like 1 absolute shit movie (Jason goes to hell)>>200590102>F13th series has at least twice as many good films as the Halloween series, but the original Halloween mogs all of them.Yeah F13 is the most consistent series and has more good entries, but the first Halloween is superior to most F13s. I'd rank the first two F13s close to Halloweeen 1 but that's personal preference. The first movies of the big six slasher franchises, best to least-best imo>the texas chain saw massacre>scream>a nightmare on elm street>halloween>friday the 13th (could switch this with halloween)>child's play (still kino, not saying i dislike it)

Is Krug Stillo the chaddest horror villain ever?
>>200591682Gremlins, M3GAN or that sort of thing.Or if you want actually scary, Kairo, Session 9, or Blair Witch Project.
>>200592593Gremlins has gore/gross shit in it. If she's super sensitive then that might be too much.
>>200592766The gore happens to the Gremlins, the worst happens to the people who were dicks in someway, like the old lady who hates dogs, or the science teacher who experimented animals.
In my quest to find a good martial arts horror movie I found a Tony Todd straight to bargain bin trashfest: Shadow dead riot. The fights aren't too bad, if your like that old school hong kong stuff. But the acting is terrible the effects are garbage. The end of the movie turns into some weird anime power level magic nonsense.
>>200558537>This isnt a sequel to pope exorcistHas this happened to actor before same genre same character?
>>200593138>same characterIt's not the same character, he's not playing an exorcist in The Exorcism. He's playing an actor who goes crazy while filming a horror movie or some shit.

Watching Enemy again for the first time in probably 10 years. Forgot (but really didn't forget) how amazing this movie is.
Were they converging on the house because of all the noise of hammering and yelling or did they simply sense where living flesh is? Also why so many zombies for a seemingly deserted rural area?
What the fuck was his problem?
>>200594042maybe they are evil dead from hell, and are simply randomly spawned from the earth to seek out and punish the living.
>>200594042They were near a highway which was probably clogged with crashed cars so people wander off it towards the farm house, Ben drove to the house when his truck was running out of gas, and then there was a family who walked there after they got attacked on the road earlier. I always thought that in a zombie apocalypse, being in a farm house was dangerous because those thing stick out like a sore thumb surrounded by rural land -- after human population is down like in the Walking Dead, in the middle of a suburban sprawl would be safest, an area with big fenced yards.
>>200594042Weren't the dead crawling out of the grave in Night? I thought the first scene was a graveyard and people getting attacked by zombies.. That would explain the sheer number.

>>200596424I think I watched one or two episodes and gave up.
>>200596424What didn't you like? Haven't seen it.
I’m watching Spring it’s pretty good buzzcut kino
>>200596471I almost gave up in the middle of episode 4 but it’s only 6 episodes and I felt I needed to soldier through it. >>200596536It was just really boring to me. The original creepypasta was much too short to be stretched over 6 episodes and the characters are so bland and unmemorable. The main dude has a weird face I just wanna punch and that woman from Harry Potter who plays the mom looks scarier than the actual monsters. The teeth monster was pretty spooky, I’ll give it that. Only watch this if you have a lot of patience and have nothing better to watch. I doubt I’ll be watching season 2 anytime soon.
>>200596764>I felt I needed to soldier through itthat's why I don't watch tv shows, if you put a movie on worst case it's gonna be over in 2 hrs.
>>200597010I feel you, I rarely watch tv shows for that reason and the fact that this one was only 6 episodes was appealing to me.

Late Night With the Devil and The First Omen are the greatest movies I've seen in forever, literal 11/10 (haha Spinal Tap, geddit?!)
>>200599275I still need to see that one, hear it's good. That image sells me on it, not enough gunners in films.
>>200600693Definitely recommend it if you enjoy 70s slashers. Very unique film. And the other way around, I still need to watch Targets sometime. I've been slacking with my 60s horror for a bit.
What makes a horror film slop? What qualities does a film need in order to be slop?
>>200600804Slop used to mean shit like the MCU but now it's meaningless. Slop is whatever you dislike.
>>200600479I thought Late Night with the Devil sucked ass. Haven't seen First Omen yet
>>200598615Let me know when it's on fmoves
>>200600885lol what a chump. Imagine unironically watching that slop.
>>200601040I watched it because the ratings all around were extremely positive, but when I watched it I realized it was just desperation in a climate of zero horror kino to find something to rally around. It had a cool concept and that was enough for people apparently, despite the execution sorely lacking.
this sucked dick, not sure why i was expecting anything from a shudder releasewhy is every horror movie nowadays just long drawn-out sequences of nothing leading up to the next kill? 99% of the "content" is just how cool and wacky the kills are
>>200601324That's literally every slasher movie, what are you fucking talking about
>>200601352my point is good slasher movies have other redeeming qualities to them besides the gore and violence. this was a complete snoozefest with LITERALLY nothing to it besides the kills
>>200601324Just finished it. I thought it was good.Best of the year so far anyway, because it feels like it does everything it's trying to do. Cinematography was good, told the story in an interesting way, turning it into just another slasher with more teen dialog wouldn't have improved it.

>>200607172The whole concept of the movie was you seeing the other side of slasher movies that you don't usually see. What the final girl does immediately after escaping is part of that. Like Marilyn Burns gets into the truck at the end of TCM and then the movie's over. In this one they show you the awkward post trauma ride away from the chaos, while also tying it into that theme of the unknowability of natural "evil" with the story of the bear.
