Pain & Gain and Miami Vice are both kino thoughbeit. I haven't seen Megalopolis yet, but modern Coppola is pretty underrated imo
>>
>>204002851
Trannyboxd hates it because Coppola is problematic and toxic
It’s a bloated waste of time/money/resources- which is a perfect representation of modern filmmaking and kind of the point of the film (just like Apocalypse Now was for the Vietnam war). So I get it, but if the resulting film still isn’t good, then I don’t know what else to say.

You think one year of medical school entitles you to plow through the riches of my Amazonian mind? I reserve my time for people who can think about science... And literature and architecture and art. You find me cruel, selfish and unfeeling? I am. I work without caring what happens to either of us. So go back to da cluuuub, bare it all, and stalk the kind of people you enjoy. Come back when you have more time.

Normies are laughing at Megalopolis flopping at the box office. They seem to have missed the point of film as a whole.
Is a film's worth how much money it makes? If that was the case, Avatar and various capeshit would be the greatest and most important films of all time.
The real point of film is telling a story because it's so important to you, that you want it to be told, not telling a story to earn money. That's disingenuous filmmaking.
Coppola knows this, he wanted to give cinema his personal swan song.
>It's not about the money, it's about sending a message

Whose words would you trust about a film, someone with decades of experience and an academic level of understanding of the medium, or someone who watches 10 films a year to have fun.
Which one can give a more accurate evaluation of a film?
You probably wouldn't get a medical evaluation from someone who "took care of his mother who had a flu", instead of a physician

Kinos for this feel?

Modern ligthing techniques and color grading are far worse than digital cameras. They ruin anything shot on film as well.

Welcome to modern film stock and modern cameras. Even when he tried to go for grain with The Lighthouse he failed.
You can unironically emulate older film stocks digitally and get better results than using modern stock.
>>
215 replies and no Bau? What an abject failure of a thread.

I suggested this same idea a couple threads ago. I said we should use I2P as well so no one's IP will be exposed. I have no idea how to do any of this tho

Lol

>>204019564
The Lighthouse used the same B&W stock Kodak has been making since the late 1950s. That's just what film looks like when it's scanned immediately and it's not in need of a restoration after decades of sitting in some vault.

nah nigga difference be in the speed of the stock. fo some reason my nigga Eggers prolly shot on a slower stock which will have less grain (tho sharper image) vs. a faster stock that is more grainy but a bish less sharp.

Ok, since i mentioned Fregonese when the anon asked about argie cinema, this is my rec for this thread, one of his Hollywood ones, a very aesthetically unique, even peculiar, western, very stripped down and interestingly framed, "geometric" (you'll get what i mean when you watch it). Also a nice story about community and solidarity. A hidden gem.

Also works as a rec for the Fallen Angel anon who was asking for no bullshit economic films a couple threads ago.
>>
>>204019786
Yes. If Eggers really wanted the film to look older, he should've had the film printed several times to introduce generational loss and more grain, and then scan that.

She stars in Kechiche's excellent Mektoub, My Love: Canto Uno and the tragically still unreleased Mektoub, My Love: Intermezzo. And it should be a trilogy.
Deneuve was really pretty in Demy's films, but that's all I have seen her in.

There have been other BW stocks in the past that were faster/more grain. Other companies besides Kodak as well. Obviously unavailable now.
Agreed on doing multiple prints, also pushing the stock during development for more grain. I’m sure he could’ve used his hookups and paid out the ass for expired film stock.
Would be better to just emulate all of this if that’s the look you’re going for. But that doesn’t get him attention and “bragging rights”, which is all he’s ever cared about.
