Isn't there a vampire movie about an actual vampire playing one in a film being made? I thought that was Herzog's Nosferatu, but that's just a straight remake of the original. Does this film exist, or did I somehow completely fabricate the idea and attach it to Herzog's somehow?

I'm a bit torn on hallucination, if he was a hallucination his diction should have been really different depending on who he was talking to. It was, to a certain extent, like when he's just telling the one guy "They're talking about you, they're all talking about you, they think you're LOSING it, they think you HAVE IT," compared to his lines at the end when he's talking to someone less retarded. Maybe I'm asking too much of horror schlock.
I otherwise had the impression that he was some kind of native god (lowercase g) tasked with preventing anyone from bringing the land's contamination anywhere else.

yeah I want to see it. I enjoyed split and McAvoy seems to carry over some that. seems a little like Funny Games as well.

Can be kinda silly, sure, but it's not like vamps are serious business, and I always liked how in the Vampyr game you can basically see the vamps being blasted by holy light through crosses.
Also not a fan of the whole "lol crosses do nothing" vamps
>>
There were large swaths of MaXXXine that I loved. West nailed the aesthetic in much of it. The comfy throwback chase scene between Bacon and Goth. That thing was straight out of Foul Play or something of that ilk. Even the music wasn't as on the nose as other period movies. I also liked the cartoonishness of Maxxine and Friends getting one up on the henchman.

And then it all came crashing the fuck down in Act 3. I like the idea. The irony of having a Jesus cult doing Satan cult stuff. I love cult movies. I fucking hated everything about the ending. The actor playing the dad is a bad actor. This is what happens when you cast some nobody with whom you shoot B reel and then decide he has what it takes to carry a bigger role in your sequel. He didn't. The whole ending sequence played out so lazily and even the cinematography was leagues shittier all of a sudden.

It was eh. X was just okay but I enjoyed the ending. This was kind of the opposite.

31 Nights of Horror, 2024
Day 1: Vampire Circus
Liked it. A quarantined German town is visited by a travelling circus of gypsy vampires. Normally 70s stuff tends to bore me, but this one kept my interest the whole time. Plot moves along at a good clip, and the frequent graphic nudity also helps a lot (There's one early scene you really won't believe) However, the special effects are transparently shitty and the pacing goes to hell in the last 20 minutes. That aside, it's a pretty solidly constructed film that applies the classic "Vampire + some other shit" formula about as well as any. Would recommend.
Day 2: Lair of the White Worm
Absolutely loved it. /hor/ has been recommending this for a long time, so I added it even though horror/comedy isn't normally my thing.
This one is brilliant. Another absurdly sexy movie, so we're two for two now. The characters are all very likable and the plot is a ton of fun. Would recommend.
Day 3: Nightbreed
Pretty good. This picture looked like it had a super high budget, making a real visual feast. Maximalist practical effects absolutely fill wide-screen shots of the underground monster city, and the prosthetics department went apeshit on the character designs. The plot is janky - even watching the director's cut, the script felt stepped-on. Still, visuals it worth watching. Really not a horror flick.

Year 2 of watching one Halloween sequel a year until I've seen all of the ones I've missed. I actually found this one incredibly entertaining in a schlocky way and therefore better than 4. It pretty much retcons the ending of 4, it often doesn't make much sense, it's tonally all over the place, and it sometimes even feels anachronistic, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Why retread the same ground as the original Halloween when the original was already excellent as it is? I'd rather see Dr. Loomis losing his fucking mind and harassing a little girl, Michael walking around in broad daylight and driving a car for a third of the movie's runtime to the point that it almost feels like a meta joke, weird shrines, left field endings, and enjoy a nice dynamic score by Alan Howarth.

I also watched this last night and it has become a new favorite. I didn't expect Southern Gothic horror when I went into this based on the poster but I was pleasantly surprised. A very rough film that manages to squeeze every drop of mood, atmosphere and tone that it can out of its limited resources. For example, the titular Lemora occasionally sounds like a voiceover from a point and click adventure game, but it does nothing to detract from her dramatically eerie presence. From minute one you're thrust into a bleak fever dream and the only respite our protagonist finds only makes her into a different kind of prey than she was before. Some great lighting in this movie and so much of the film sticks with you. Dirty people and purity vampires, innocent young blonde girls, monsters in the woods, black robes, taunting children, nothing but dread. It's great stuff and I highly recommend it.
>>
>>204133311
>>204133325
No. They're so unbelievably dull and have so little visual effects, especially right around 4 or 5 I think it was where it was just straight up cutting on the action so you'd only see the second before they were attacked and the second after before it moved on to the next scene.

This. F13th at least has fun to watch sequels. Halloween is just an unfun convoluted mess with each film. No one gives a shit about it's boring ass mess of a story that they kept trying to add to and it always takes itself too seriously. Other slashers figured out how to be fun which is why shit like F13th and Elm Street generally have well liked sequels.

Rating the sloppa I've watched so far. Only giving a brief rating because nobody will care to read an entire essay on each film lmao
>Targets (I watched this a day or two before October but I'll include it anyway)
10/10, an amazing film with a surprisingly well-done meta aspect. Very ahead of its time. A new favorite of mine.
>Hack-O-Lantern
3/10, shit but sort of fun. Has some nice nudity and gore.
>Murder-Rock
5/10, underrated Fulci kino with some nice visuals and cinematography
>Rampage (The Friedkin one, not the Uwe Boll one, which is pretty good too)
8/10, a serial killer kino that is oddly obscure and forgotten. I watched the re-cut version on Effedupmovies. I hope Kino Lorber actually releases this on blu-ray or 4K like they're supposed to
>Bug
8/10, slow start but once it gets going it's great. Best depiction of a Schizo I've ever seen in a film
>Born for Hell
9/10, another new favorite of mine, feels like a 70s version of Angst, or a horror version of Taxi Driver. How the FUCK is this film so underrated?
My kino marathon has been great so far

Not at all, it’s massively superior.
Fun fact: Fox re-released Phantom of the Paradise as a double feature with Rocky Horror when it came out the following year and both bombed on release. Phantom should have the cult following Rocky still does 50 years later but instead, like Shock Treatment, it’s a cult film fan’s cult film.

That's fine but I disagree. I was at least somewhat interested in what was happening in Halloween 4 and Halloween 5 is thoroughly entertaining in its schlockiness. Halloween 2 is a perfectly fine movie on its own. I can't say the same about Friday the 13th Part 3, Part 7, Part 8 or Jason Goes to Hell with the exception of a few good scenes here and there. I enjoy the Friday series for what it is but most of the entries are unfortunately pretty boring.

I would say that she could play Freddy Kreuger in Nancy's body.
But that's kind of already been done with Chucky in Fiona Dourif's body.

Would fans mind the unoriginal idea if it meant we got to see Heather doing her best Freddy laugh and impression? Probably not.

Alternative idea: Robert Englund still does the voice so it's Nancy with the classic Freddy voice coming out of her mouth.

Why does 4chan sperg out over Terrifier being made by Jews, but never did this for Saw, August Underground, or even Hostel (which literally is made by one)?
I can only think of two options
1. The faggots who are offended are newfags
2. The faggots who are offended are paid shills
I'm guessing it's both, but more the second one. Have you ever noticed how all these "AHHHH GORE IS LITERALLY DEGENERACY AHHH" posts are only being made in threads for Terrifier and Violent Nature? That's because zooomers have zero interest in any media made before they became aware of the world.
They are very different than millennials in this outlook.
I think millennials more than any other current generation sought out and consumed media from before their own time, particularly the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

gorgeous, glad she starred in multiple elm st films

Those are awful movies to watch with people. If you're going to watch shit with anyone, it's gotta be something worth watching with a group. Who the fuck wants to sit through Speak no Evil when you could just watch Dead Alive and have a blast.
>>
>>204135257
I don't see the difference. When we watch movies we aren't all talking over it and stuff. We sit and enjoy the film and then usually discuss it afterwards. We had just as much fun watching House of the Devil as we did watching something zany like Night of the Creeps.
>>
>>204135300
>Night of the Creeps
that's the movie I was just trying to think of, anon. thank you.

thinking about writing some truly heinous and disturbing horror movie script

Thank you for the feedback...
>You have a lot of modern slop and that's your problem.
It's more my audience. I'm apprehensive about streaming older films, because they'll get lost. I often hear things like practical effects and stop motion are charming from these people at best. 90% of them struggled with films The Godfather; Titanic; Ben-Hur; Rear Window, The Terminator, etc.; etc. Something is lost in translation and people lack the attention they once had. Thinking of downloading the FNAF movie and other nonsense like Smile and saying forget it.

>>204135130
Thanks. These are not horror aficionados. I'll consult your list for fun fillers.

>>204135158
These are requests that I've fielded from my audience for the most part. I'm looking for fillers, or stuff to replace...some of these I'll likely stream out of audience interest nad obligation, not because they're objectively great films

>>204135207
>>204135208
Thank you kindly. You understand my plight. It's not like I'm dealing with a sophisticated audience. As it were, I am probably not going to stream the films of Jodorowsky or Solondz or Man Ray for any of tese people any time soon.

The consensus I'm getting is that I should just trust my instincts and play the classics and the best pop horror I can find? Consider it done. Thanks, I will neither hijack nor bog this thread down anymore.

How do you NOT get the rights to Freddie Freakers' IP? It probably costs like 20 bucks.

Boring trash. i like Macon Blair but he has Max Landis stupid tier writing. how did Saulnier go from Murder Party/Blue Ruin/Green Room to this.

I could have told you that just by looking at the cover.

It angers me that VHS Beyond isn't available on Shudder yet. Does anyone know what time Shudder usually releases its new films? I'm pretty sure most streaming services drop their new films at 3am EST.

It's probably gonna blow, but I've been huffing hopium.

some people also never bring anything intellectually to the table when engaging with media/watching a movie. So they sit there passively thinking 'Im not being entertained enough'.
