one gripe I have is that I liked the idea that cenobites were warped by 1000s of years of torment. after the first one it's like, nah they go inside an elevator or whatnot and instantly become psychos.
I get that's easier to make plots from though.
>>
>>204138238
>Ok, he hadn’t done it in years.
He also did it last year

I think having some other people write some of the vids is not that big of a deal considering he doesn't have the time or manpower to do 31 reviews a month anymore. It's also not a new thing. A lot of the classic Nerd episodes where he was reviewing games was written by Mike yet no one complains about that

Nta but isn't the purpose of a reviewer to, you know, review? Idk who you're talking about but I assume it's a reviewer, and yeah, if you haven't been outsourcing reviews from the start that would cause a problem. Most people go to reviewers because it's one guy's consistent opinion, so if he hates zombies and he rates a zombie movie highly, you know there's something special about those zombies that made him get over his zombie hate.
It looks the issue is he said it was his review, when it's someone else's review, so the audience have no idea it's not his prejudices but someone else's. You can present other people's reviews, but saying the review is yours when you haven't even seen the movie in question doesn't actually give the audience actionable info. Like, I know Ebert is going to be wrong about what's too trashy and gratuitous for a horror, but if he was secretly getting Rob Zombie to fill in on a review then the bar is significantly different for what's trashy and gratuitous. The benefit of a named reviewer is you get to know their prejudices, and getting someone else to write your opinion is kind of impossible.

The nerd episodes are more of a character and a mini plot with some game review. The movie reviews are just reviews. He didn’t actually have to do 31 in the month of October and obviously didn’t. You have a whole year to watch some horror movies and write a simple summary and basic bitch review for a 10 minute video. I guess I forgot he started doing it again. Without checking, he took off a year or two and now releases 1 a week? Or is it 2? Regardless, if you’re outsourcing your review of the movie, what’s the point? He doesn’t care. And picks some awful movies these days.

Intruder (1989)

One of my new favorite slashers. It's slow for the first 30 minutes but picks up after that. A lot of the Evil Dead 2 crew worked on it (Scott Spiegel directing, Greg Nicotero special effects, Sam Raimi acting, Bruce Campbell shows up for 1 minute). Some fun kills and gore and lots of creative shots peppered throughout. Watch it!

it definitely feels a bit aimless in the second act and the fact that father karras' name wasn't even mentioned once in it bugged me a lot.

but other than those things, it was a fairly solid second chapter to one of the most important horror movies ever. morricone's soundtrack for it is also godly.

>It boggles my mind the family willingly decided to build a cottage in two days in the middle of nowhere
It's a morality play in the style of traditional New England stories. (Eggers is autistic) The father of the family is Prideful, and refuses the teachings of the church in favor of his own (unqualified) interpretation. By leaving the village, he is both literally leaving society and symbolically leaving the teachings of Christ, and thereby condemns his family to get buttfucked by the forces of Satan, having made them defenseless.

>>204137388
I have.
It's decent, that's all.
And it does feel RUSHED as fuck, shit happens far too fast like 95% of the town gets turned into vamps offscreen.
And mind you I do enjoy fast paced horror but shit's just too fast at 1h54m, the other 2 adaptations were much longer so they weren't as crazy tier of plot progression
The best part is unironically the black kid since he actually kills both vamps and evil humans with no regrets as opposed to the rest of the cast who gets constantly stuck with fear or whatever
>>
>>204146820

This shit is what low budget horror directors have been failing to hit for all of the 2010s.
>creating an iconic killer
>practical fx and gore-forward kills
>Overemphasis on Halloween setting begging to be an annual classic
>synthwave/80s worship
>le tropes
>somehow made for a quarter mill
Honestly, a lot of this stuff feels passee to release now and the story/acting is shit. It doesn’t really feel like a real movie when you watch it. But honestly, I’m just surprised one indie director was actually successful in this combination. There are so many shitty indie slashers trying to be Halloween x Trick R Treat that at least this in lands in being memorable.
