The steps to watching a Tsai Ming-liang movie

1. What an amazing opening!

2. Oh look it’s Lee Kang-sheng again.

3. My mind is wandering, is that okay?

4. Wait, has there been no dialogue for twenty minutes?

5. My mind is wandering and that’s okay.

6. This is slow and nothing has happened.

7. This is slow and nothing has happened and I love it.

8. Wait. Oh my god.

9. Ow my heart.

10. Everything just happened.

Apichatpong Weerasethakul (born 16 July 1970) is a Thai independent film director, screenwriter, film producer and Professor at Tama Art University in Tokyo. Working outside the strict confines of the Thai film studio system, Apichatpong has directed several features and dozens of short films. Friends and fans sometimes refer to him as "Joe" (a nickname that he, like many with similarly long Thai names, has adopted out of convenience).

What is the most visually and cinematically groundbreaking film for each decade? Here's my list so far:

1890s - The Four Troublesome Heads
1900s - A Trip to the Moon
1910s - Intolerance
1920s - Metropolis
1930s - King Kong
1940s - Fantasia
1950s - The Ten Commandments
1960s - 2001: A Space Odyssey
1970s - Apocalypse Now
1980s - The Empire Strikes Back
1990s - The Matrix
2000s - Avatar
2010s - Avengers: Endgame
2020s - Megalopolis

Other Asians praise it and call it the peak of the genre

The western world is only now catching up. In the communist bloc it was all about equality for women. So we got great women directors like Vera Chytilova, Larissa Shepitko, Kira Muratova, Martha Meszaros, Agnieszka Holland, Binka Zhelyazkova, Yulia Solntseva etc etc

Gay directors have been putting their straight counterparts to shame in recent years. Many of the greatest films of the 2010s and 2020s are by gays.

It's pathetic, I've been hearing this for years. Women directors are terrible because they have smaller brains and are more conforming, making them incapable of making good films. Women directors are only capable of copying men. People always point to one example, Kathern Bigelow. All because she can copy the style of action movie directors doesn't mean that she is a brilliant filmmaker. It means she knows how to have a team of male technicians around her and film explosions, the way any average MALE director can do. You never see people talking about random studio male directors like petrie or ruben, but the second an average woman comes out reddit's brain lights up. Their little pet black guy or white woman has finished the special olympics and made a movie that any random studio hack can make, so that means the globalist utopia is here.

I didn't feel really emotional watching it. As for the S&S poll yeah I know, it's not surprising because again, it's considered to be an essential silent film. What's surprising is Bresson's second feature, I thought most people pretended his first two films didn't exist. It's a solid list by the way, one of the best S&S rankings if not the best
>>
>>204573997
Because the vote was limited to like less than 50 people, so you know they care about the medium unlike todays open border policy of letting anyone from the zoo have a vote.
