Good morning, /film/
>>
So I have seen C'est pas moi, The Room Next Door and Afternoons of Solited so far at a film festival.

C'est pas moi was great but it will only be of interest to Carax fans imo. The film is pretty fast jumping from one topic to another connecting them through cinema. It also deals with the move from 20th to 21st century. It's a lot of fun and it manages to have some sense of melancholy as usual with Carax. There is some new material of which the Merde appearance, piano scene and the last running scene are the highlights. I loved it but if somebody has never seen a Carax film they might not like this at all. As far as Godard goes this has some of the same aesthetic choices, you could already see that in the trailer, but the end result is something completely different.

The Room Next Door by Almodovar was ghastly and verging on parody for the majority of the runtime. Dying in style with Tilda basically. Some of the dialogues are ear scraping. The climate change one for example. The exposition at the beginning is utterly ridiculous.

Afternoons of Solitude was another Serra hit. Potential masterpiece. The footage is truly stunning

Sono is the most inconsistent director. Some of his films are absolutely first rate, while others I find intolerable. They're all from 1912 and directed by D.W. Griffith
A Feud in the Kentucky Hills - Nice action scene, like a precursor to the battles in Birth of A Nation
A Lodging for the Night - Somewhat forgettable
Friends - OK
The Mender of Nets - Best of the bunch along with Feud in Kentucky
My Baby - OK
So Near Yet So Far - Forgettable
The School Teacher and the Waif - Good

It was interesting to see her capability in playing a range of parts and ages. For a woman who was 20 at the time she could play a young girl very convincingly. I can also see how she was destined for stardom, her screen presence is incredible and she completely mogged all the other actors back then. Looking forward to checking out more of her work.

>There was this irish, or welsh movie where the mom was dead & gone and this dad was raising the 2 kids, and in the middle of the night was taking walks with the daughter to this abandoned silo on the cliff, and there she'd get on all fours and he'd buttfuck her. I kinda remember them showing the entire thing which was sort of a suprise on late night tv. Can't think of the name of it though, probably not terribly hard to track down i guess.

Everyone who had a sex life before the age of 18 is a pedophile anon. Just because you can connect to that part of your life in a positive or negative way when you see it simulated on screen doesn't mean you want to rape kids as an adult, holy fuck do you want to murder everyone you see every time you see a death on screen? jfc get a grip.

>I have to tell you, for me, the film is 35mm celluloid. I made all my shit on 35mm celluloid. My problem is—it’s not technical, again. I don’t care about the scratches because maybe you got an old print. The problem is, the digital picture has to be a new language. But we do not use it as a new language. People are using it to look like a fake film camera. Why do they not think about a new visual language? If you see these fucking digital possibilities, you can create a new language that is only for digital technology. It’s really stupid if you believe that a digital picture will have the same quality as 35mm. Never! But you have a totally different possibilities in a different way, but you can use it. Why don’t you?

Study the title. “McCabe & Mrs. Miller.” Not “and,” as in a couple, but “&,” as in a corporation. It is a business arrangement. Everything is business with her. What sorrows she knew before she arrived in Presbyterian Church are behind her now. Everything else is behind her now, too, the opium promises. Poor McCabe. He had poetry in him. Too bad he rode into a town where nobody knew what poetry was but one, and she already lost to it.
