I have a particular nostalgia for movies that were aired on TV at Halloween or leading up to Halloween over the years when I was growing up.
>Carrie
>House of Usher
>Nightmares
>The Company of Wolves
>Masque of the Red Death
>Halloween 1 & 2
>Gothic
>Christine

I just have to rewatch them around Halloween for that feeling again. Plus the whole line of Corman-Poe movies are great any time of year desu >>204771609

Finally got around to watching the Wolf Man and the Creature from the Black Lagoon. Wolf Man was great, loved the second half in paticular. Not gonna lie, dissapointed that I didn't end up loving or even enjoying Creature from the Black Lagoon that much. The monster design was great, and Julia Adams was so fucking hot, but the story felt too cliche and it just didn't have vibe of earlier Universal monster films.

the only thing of note about Blade: The Iron Cross was that "Tania Fox" does a nude scene. Initially I thought they were blurring out her pussy but on closer inspection, I think she was wearing some of skin coloured underwear but it was incredibly obvious so they just tried to fix it in post. bravo.

>get told that Funny Games is the ultimate horror movie because it breaks conventions that normally don't get broken
>start watching
Oh yeah, It's intentionally doing shots that don't frame it on the usual things, plays with music at the start over top of the family car scene, lots of ADR instead of regular audio. Though this is all just normal for cheap horror movies.
>breaks the fourth wall a bunch
Legit spoiler that ruins a lot of the tension if you read this: When the wife manages to get the gun, shoots the one guy, and then the other guy rewinds the movie to undo that.
I can see why this would be so highly respected for a movie in 1997. This would have been like nothing else. Considering only recently have fourth wall breaking become the norm.
Any Zoomers watching it, would probably not be able to appreciate how different this movie was for the time. They've grown up in the "subvert expectations" era. I grew up in that era, so even though I watched it today, I still understand what movies were like then, and can understand how significantly different this is.
I watched both the 1997 version and the 2007 remake. The only flaw of the remake, is that Naomi Watts is way too pretty. Part of what made the 1997 so good, is how unremarkable the looks of the cast is, and it allows the entire feel of the movie to feel more real. There's nothing wrong with her acting in the movie, just too pretty for the proper immersion.
Solid 9/10 for both. Highly recommend.

Haunt was pretty good.
I went into it with super low expectations but it ended up being a decent slasher. I felt it captured the feeling of a walking through a haunted house effectively. The multitude of unique rooms that seemingly never end were sweet (they're also designed like what you'd see in actual haunted houses this time of year). The cast is whatever but who really cares for a movie like this. Same goes for any deeper plot. The kills weren't boundary pushing but still effective enough. I really liked the tension throughout most of it.
I'll probably watch this again if I need a quick, no-frills slasher.

I have a bad feeling that they will be neckbeard, soyy horror and not actual horror.

Prince of Darkness

Demons
Demons 2

I'm assuming you've seen The Thing(1981). Really any John Carpenter from that time. The Thing (2011) prequel is worth checking out if you haven't seen it but they abandoned the cool practical effects and went for just ok-ish CGI.

Watched 4 new movies, 1 wasn't horror:

>#AMFAD
What an absolute bad movie. Just the way it's shot would make you think it was a made-for-mtv movie. The ending is incredibly predictable right from the start. Then they throw in an ending twist just to setup for a possible sequel, that I really hope never happens. The only thing good about this movie is that Jade Pettyjohn is attractive.
>Bad Kitties
Not a horror movie, just a drama about a bunch of teen girls bitching and being poor white trash. Out of all the FF movies I've seen, this is probably the most annoying of them all.
>Last Night At Terrace Lanes
This is below average and ridiculous. It had a shot at being good if they dumped 90% of the budget into effects for the kills and gore. Only thing I really cared about was looking at Francesca Capaldi because goddamn. You'd have to be a the gayest dude on earth to not want to fuck her.
>Scarred To Death
This is the 144th FF movie I've seen and it has the worst dialog and acting out of them all. It's honestly astounding how bad it is. Within the first 15 minutes you want the asian dude to die because his dialog is atrocious. The lead woman/camerman has a terrible accent that makes me instantly hate her. Fuck this movie, NEVER watch it.

I'm personally a huge fan of Beyond the Door, Italian Exorcist ripoff from the 70s. Great sound design.
there's a blaxploitation ripoff of Exorcist called Abby I also like a lot but good luck finding a copy, WB sued to keep it from getting released (wouldn't be surprised if it's on youtube though.)
Japanese exorcism flick It Comes is wacky and slick looking (and long.)
The Last Exorcism has it's fans, surprising for a FF exorcism flick, and I do remember thinking it was above average for FF despite barely remembering it otherwise.

I remember reading the sequel was meant to something to do with these ideas

>new Leslie vernon killings happen in another location, she goes to try and stop him
>twist is it’s not Leslie, it’s an imitator and he ends up helping them stop him because his work is sloppy and disrespectful

Or

>she runs a To Catch A Predator style show where they bait aspiring serial killers
>something happens and Leslie also comes back but they end up getting together romantically

Or

>they’re making a movie about Leslie Vernon and the true story of how he set all the stuff up to become a killer and the relationship between him and her etc, it’s obviously very inaccurate, Leslie comes back to start killing them

Haven’t been able to read the comic because it’s so expensive and nobody has scanned it but I assume it’s based on the sequel script that wasn’t made

really fun movie with cool creature puppets. i really liked the different apartment residents - even though they each got just a little time each, their different apartment decorations and personalities made them like cartoon characters which added to the storybook feel of the whole thing.

eerie and pretty with some nice creative kills, but it's just a cheap zoomer imitation of the classics. It needed some soul, better music, a cute lead, and a nice pair of titties. If it had those things, i'd be singing its praises. as of now, it doesn't even measure up to Hatchet.

This one was good, but I do feel it felt too “modern” for what it was going for. If it was actually directed and shot in a way that gave it a 70s pulp feel, then it would have hit a home run as far as being a send up of the genre goes.

It definitely seems that way, but that’s why slashers often don’t hit the same notes with me as giallo does.

The main reasons I love giallo are the kino direction and aesthetics as well as the twisty, crazy plots where half the fun is trying to figure out who the killer is.

A lot of slashers seem to just dilute giallo down to the gore and tits, which I think results in them losing a lot of the nuance that giallo films had. Yes, giallo films were pulp, but they were artsy pulp.

I loved slashers like Alice Sweet Alice and the Toolbox Murders, which are clearly imitating the giallo style though.

Eh, not really.

“Giallo” covers a crazy broad spectrum to the point that it has sub-genres within the sub-genre. Some are closer to slashers, while others are more straight up crime/detective thrillers.

The generally agreed upon definition of giallo though is that it has to be a whodunnit murder mystery that has horror elements and nudity. In this respect, it’s a clear genre of its own. That’s not even mentioning the fact that it has its own unique tropes independent of slashers like killer POV shots, bottles of J&B Whiskey everywhere, prog/jazz inspired soundtracks and the fact that most killers wear black gloves as a rule of thumb.
