I like the timeloop theory, (my personal spin on it Is that the town needs to feed off the people to maintain its energy, so when the townspeople weren't trying hard to escape or solve problems the town would reward them with food, supplies, and good weather, but now the cycle had reached its singularity point for the cycle after the bus crew arrived, so now the town isn't trying to just murder everyone and restart it's trying to have the people fail and quit trying going back to just being mindless prey)

They stay up all night listening to new people dying, thinking “What could I have done differently to save them?” Instead of “wtf is going on?”The morale is constantly getting lower and lower, Donna for example. A new person would want to find new ways to fight back, Donna knows her place and how hopeless it is. If there is a glimpse of hope for Donna, it is worth so much more than the new people because they don’t realise how royally screwed they are yet. Their objective is to break people, probably in different ways than “I almost died” that a new person would experience. Break them in ways we wouldn’t understand as a viewer from what we’ve seen so far. They can’t break a new person each time they come around, so they use the new ones to break the ones they’re already working on. They’ve probably got their sights on a select few from even the old town that the rest of the town will be used to crush. Like how Kenny’s mum was used to crush Boyd. She was an OG, she’s worth less to them than Boyd. A new townie is worth less than Boyd. Randall was worth less than Boyd and the others (although he’s not a good example because he survived, he was probably used to crush Boyd in a different way. Eg. “Why didn’t you come back for me?”)Also, the harder they are to break, the more valuable they are to the monsters in some way. They’ve focused on Boyd because he’s difficult to break, compared to other townies that lose their shit if someone climbs through a tree.

I still can't believe they stopped trying to get characters to figure out why they're there or how to escape after season 1. Clearly digging a deep ass hole leads to something. Who cares if you risk dying, start digging, or force the useless town retards to dig at gunpoint. Why did the writers go from "interesting ways of searching for answers" to "every time someone tries to do anything, they get distracted or punished" it's soooo boring.
