Now that the horror season is completely done and dusted, nothing new left to come out, here is my top 3 for 2024 horror movies:

3) Terrifier 3
2) Late Night with the Devil
1) The Substance

Worst horror movie of 2024: Longlegs, runner up Alien: Romulus

What will be the horror movie trend when Gen Alpha hits prime movie marketing age? I'm going with something about horror through tablets/phones/apps.
>>
>>204907558
>Time Cut
>High school student accidentally travels back to 2003 and decides to stop the serial killer who murdered her sister.
>Totally Killer
>When the infamous "Sweet Sixteen Killer" returns 35 years after his first murder spree to claim another victim, 17-year-old Jamie accidentally travels back in time to 1987, determined to stop the killer before he can start.
Is this an Antz/A Bug's Life situation?
>>
>>204907558
Was this movie created solely to make people over 20 feel ancient?

Totally Killer appeals to Gen X. Time Cut appeals to Millennials. You see, it's completely different, and I'll be the first to point out how much they get wrong when in 2003.

Today I’m watching Cloverfield. Haven’t seen this in a very long time. How’s the paradox movie?
>>
When the fuck is Hell House LLC Lineage coming out?
>>
>>204905670
It's around 6 hours long if you try to explore a bit. It leans more on the action side of the franchise and drowns you under ammos and healing items, though the original 3 was the same (I finished the 1999 game with 150 magnum rounds, in hard). I would say you have completed one third of the game, maybe a little more.
I would also recommend to try the higher difficulty next.
>>204908260
I would argue that only the second one is good.
>>
>>204908260
The saw Cloverfield when it came out on a very bad bootleg DVD shot with a camcorder in the theater with people standing up and walking in front of the camera and coughing the whole time. I couldn't tell what the fuck anything was. It was like found found footage.

for me it's Strange Darling, Mads, and 3rd is a toss up.
Violent Nature is kind of a meme but the kills were pretty good. Substance, might actually need to rewatch that. the visuals were stunning but it dragged at points. Romulus was decent but nothing amazing. Everything else was average or forgettable trash. 3rd might just go to Late Night for the comfy feel or Substance but there's still Nosferatu. i don't know what to expect with that, could be gothic kino. for anyone who bothers to keep up with modern horror, this year was insanely stacked with releases but a lot of it failed to leave a strong impact.

>>204907738
T3 wasn't as fun to me as T2. it was fine, it had its moments. it was mostly Leone showing off his gore vfx.

Ofc many do. It's a fringe of less educated/insecure types who look for these yt reviews (many of them absolutely shallow/irrelevant) for "guidance" with an added touch of parasocial validation.
Some yt in depth reviews can be interesting (without having any type of full authority over any movie ofc) but overcoming most of them through education and attention while watching movies is the natural next step, people aren't supposed to get stuck on RLM etc

I honestly don't remember the last time a movie scared me bc it's a feeling I associate with my childhood when I first started watching movies.
Nowadays, the movies that seem to stand a chance of being legit scary are those linked to either realistic (Hostel) or metaphysical (Martyrs, VHS Beyond's last wraparound scene) settings.
>>
>>204913875
You probably shouldn’t watch Halloween III then

>>204913980
my gf is very similar, labeled horror is typically just a film for her (as it is for most horror fans, I think). her scariest film has been A Dark Song since it came out just because the thought of that ritual actually working, and coming face to face with the angel (and the demons of course), is somehow terrifying to her. which reminds me, we can watch VHS Beyond now, cheers.

highly overrated by normalfags but it's still a good scary mockumentary.
a lot of people here seen to not find it that much scary, but I felt a certain eerieness to it since it began, that scene recorded in that phone was an excellent climax to the eerieness that movie was building up through all its runtime and it actually fucking got me, and the reveal at the end just made me actually sad. for the rest of that day i couldn't get that movie out of my head for how intrigued it left me. But at the same time, I have to admit that movie bored me in some parts.

It's never mentioned, but in my head canon the original Night and Dawn were the result of some global voodoo event. Besides that, I think I watched a couple on MST3k that were voodoo zombies.

I wonder, voodoo is often related to black people and the first Romero was an anti racism take, it would be counter productive to have both in the same movie, especially in the late 60s were blacks were like the plague.

They do. All of them have lab leaks/unhinged scientits/facilities not being secure enough. In fact it makes sense to watch all those three in sequence a few days apart to see how the tropes stand out. Make sure to get the best available A/V versions.
Cabin Fever: Patient Zero doesn't have zombies but is variation of that trope and despite being a b-movie it's a fun watch bc it has an interesting sense of place and is similar to this eerie real-life classic video:

It's a risky subject to use. In the first half of the 20th century, they exploited voodoo as an exotic and alien cultural practice to spook white people with. Now, you can't get away with "othering" people.

It's the same reason why back then, they had movies like Island of Lost Souls and Murders in the Rue Morgue, exploiting white peoples' fears around miscegenation (which was illegal until the late 60s). Making a movie like that now would just be inviting racism accusations.

>lots of 2000s rock music that sounds like mudvayne and nickleback
>one token black guy with a shaved head, he's really tough and eventually nobly sacrifices himself to save someone else
>its like really REALLY gritty and raw
>ends with the main girl facing off against the killer alone, seems like she has no chance but she pulls out a win in the end
