PAUL W.S. ANDERSON'S THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD
>“My approach will be to reflect what this hyper-immersive, kinetic video game is, which is why Zack Snyder took these creatures and made them fast moving,” Anderson said. “This is a full-on terror ride. It’s different than what we did with Resident Evil, where there were lots of traps and puzzles and things to be figured out. House of the Dead is at heart a light rail shooter game, so it drags you straight into the middle of the action. I’m going to make a movie that mirrors that approach and plays out in real time, dragging the audience straight into the action. It’s not going to be kind of lumbered with a whole bunch of back story that might exclude people who know nothing about House of the Dead. Everyone’s going to be on the same page. Everyone’s going to get sucked straight into the action and learn about the characters and the plot, as they have 90 minutes to basically escape the most extreme haunted house you’ve ever been in.”

Alright guys, I'm incredibly depressed, please suggest some decent slasherslop to watch. Preferably new (post-2010) stuff since I've seen just about every 80s slasher. Because it was boring and stupid. That entire trilogy is incredibly derivative, and I think Pearl is probably the worst in that regard with Mia Goth doing an absolutely terrible Sissy Spacek impression over a Wizard of Oz backdrop. I did enjoy Maxxxine though.

I sort of get that. It looks decent enough and there are titties out most of the runtime. But I couldn't stand it. Don't like Brittany Snow at all and I absolutely hated that singing scene. Kid Cudi is in it. The cuck boyfriend. The very basic and ultimately meaningless final girl subversion "twist" we're supposed to be shocked by. I just found that all very annoying. And I hate modern slashers being set in the past, it's entirely besides the point.

28 Days Later sidesteps the zombie/monster genre with its "rage virus" stuff. It's more akin to Invasion of the Body Snatchers or something.

Anderson and Snyder regularly copy shots from each other's movies, although Anderson is a lot better than it.

Anderson is possibly also alluding to the smart not-exactly-zombies from Army of the Dead, which was itself a ripoff of his own movie, Resident Evil: Extinction, about Umbrella using Alice's blood to make intelligent zombies with problem solving capabilities. Which was in turn a ripoff/remake/homage to Romero's Day of the Dead.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Frankie Freako. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Mr. Buechler propitious outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterization - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Frankie Freako truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Crunch's existencial catchphrase "SHABADOOOO," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Steven Kostanski's genius unfolds itself on their screens. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Frankie Freako tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

How about 60s and 70s slashers? How many have you seen? Slashers are an old genre. There was even a slasher parody called Student Bodie sin 1981 (Scream was greatly inspired by it. It even had 2 killers and the opening with the phone call and everything).
You could also try giallo movies. A lot are in the slasher genre. But there's a lot of overlap. The Embalmer (1965) is a serial killing/kidnapping mystery that turns into a gothic slasher in the final act with a masked killer chasing a girl in old catacombs.
But if you need a more recent one, Lost After Dark (2015) is decent. It's made as a fake 80s movie, but in a less annoying way than you would expect. They even do the missing real thing, but it works. The characters were better than the expected clichés in that kind of homage movie. But the slasher was a little generic.

Original Popeye goes into PD next year. Here's hoping for a horror movie where he just punches everyone to death OPM style. I have a feeling the PD laws will change eventually. Superman, Batman, Disney's Mickey Mouse, & Bugs Bunny all go into PD in the mid 2030s. Those companies will be throwing money at politicians to change it.

You mean like Blood Feast and Peeping Tom? I've seen both. And The Las Vegas Strangler. Haven't watched Dementia yet though. Can't think of any others as far as the 60s goes. I've also seen Spiral Staircase from the 40s and recently watched Thirteen Women from the 30s.
>70s slashers

Not a huge fan of the 70s but I've probably seen a decent-ish amount. Don't like giallo.
>There was even a slasher parody called Student Bodies in 1981
Yeah, it's one of my favorites, along with Wacko. It's a shame Pandemonium isn't nearly as good, barely a slasher parody.
