This is, unlike Strange Darling mentioned in the previous thread, woke dreck and not just for the forced, blatantly interracial aspect unsubtly highlighted within 5 mins or so after the movie starts.
It's anti-Christianity and anti-pregnancy/childbirth. Azrael btw is a jewish/muslim entity that brings about retribution so the movie's essentially about a blonde woman with a black bf trying to bring down mankind and help the arrival of the Antichrist and its deformed, monstrous lackeys

Heretic was decent but nothing too special. I would describe it as 80% thriller 20% horror. Hugh Grant acted circles around the two lead actresses up until the last 15min or so. Christfags won’t like this one at all cuz the first half consists entirely of Grant’s character schooling these Mormon missionaries on how much of a sham organized religion is. He believes the real religion is “control”

>Made-for-TV edition
The holy grail of lost made-for-TV horror movies.
It's never been released on home video. No VHS, no DVD. It'll probably never be released on blu-ray.

It's just lost to time. If you didn't watch it on Nickelodeon back in the day, you'll never get to see it. Horror icons Ken Foree and Michael Barryman. Set in a gothic castle with a villain based on Washington Irving's Headless Horseman.
Just gone forever.
>>
Just finished The Empty Man. Pretty decent jn terms of psychology horror. Had the ol switcheroo set up in a way thats a little less predictable and more unique than your average one. Had some odd quasi Buddhist but definitely anti Christ vibes going with the themes of it. Wish they put a little more monster into it. If the protagonist ran away from the Empty Man a bit more and had more of those jumps it would be a great balance between atnosphere and jumpscare. Not gonna lie, I'm a bit of a pleb. Don't quite get the ending. But overall a solid flick. Worth watching. Also, I'd fuck the black girl

>>
>>205585135
My theory is that it releasing in 2000 was an awkward time for it. Too late for VHS, and Nickelodeon was notoriously apathetic about releasing their catalogue on DVD. Most of their TV shows, even their biggest hits, were either never released on DVD or were released very late. For example, they released Season 1 of Rugrats on DVD in 2013. They didn't release the other seasons. Are You Afraid of the Dark? was released on DVD in 2014. The vast majority of their shows haven't been made available anywhere. A TV special like that had no chance.

This was fantastic at the beginning when it was just the four family members versus their four doppelgangers. But then about halfway through, it started shifting genres into a part-comedy, trying to be all philosophical, and by the end there were shitloads of plot holes. It could have easily been a 10/10 if it had been shorter and focused more on the family fighting for survival.

You guys know any movie somewhat similar to Lake Mungo and Butterfly Kisses, Noroi, etc.? Cursed mysteries basically, doesn't have to be FF but they tend to lean into that style
>>
I am catching up on 2024 horror movies I have not watched yet, last night I watched Black Cab, MadS, and Crackcoon.
Black Cab: Nick Frost was the highlight of this, his acting was enjoyable as usual. Unfortunately I just wasn't that interested in the concept. 2.5/5 almost good
MadS: Pretty cool movie, I'm glad I went into this one without knowing much before hand. The most impressive part of the movie was probably that it APPEARS to be one long continuous take. 3.5/5, I enjoyed this one and it's sitting not far outside my top ten for the year
Crackcoon: I had very low expectations for this, even though I do love horror comedy and gore. I might be a minority opinion on this but I thought Crackcoon was actually hilarious and way better than it had any right to be. The acting was atrocious and a lot of the dialogue was bad, but for everything I didn't like about this movie there was something that made me laugh or entertained me. There's a lot of gratuitous nudity and BIG BOOBA in this one too. 3.5/5, somehow my favorite of the 3 films

>>205601454
Broadcast Signal Intrusion has a similar feel.

Now you must follow my lead and watch Methgator (aka Attack Of The Meth Gator). Not drug related, but for another killer animal movie, Rippy (aka The Red).

I did not watch Cocaine Bear but after Crackcoon I think I'm in on drug animal movies, I will definitely check out the Meth Gator

otherwise no
for me it's very much pure brainless fun
normal movies are depressing and the subject matter is depressing. So horror is escapism and maybe i find it comforting - that there's a higher power, even if it's a 'horrible' one.
idk what happened i just can't stand normal movies - they spook me out way way more and in a bad way

Sure, some more than others but as is evident by most of the replies even if you aren't prone to getting scared there's still enjoyment to be had from watching horror movies for most people. They can still be entertaining and very often are although I think I understand why this board hates slowburns so much since they're more about atmosphere and buildup than constant action like slashers or zombie flicks. Those types of movies you do get more out of if you can allow yourself to become completely absorbed and get scared.

Horror is just a genre that requires a little more participation from the audience than others and not everyone is up to that task so they invariably miss out on some of the enjoyment and don't get the appeal of a certain subset of genre flicks. Some people think Hereditary is good because it's a good drama and that's fine, but those of us who can appreciate it think Hereditary is good because it's a good drama that's only enhanced by its equally good horror elements and atmosphere. That's why so many great sci-fi movies also happen to be great horror movies.
