it is really annoying that ziggers appropriated the letter 'Z'. It's not even in the cyrillic alphabet. It would be like if a Western country used ж or ф as a symbol–it doesn't make sense.

I need to rewatch Fear X (I barely could hear the almost non existant dialogue because my neighbors were fighting that day kek)

Neon Demon was a fine movie but nowhere near as I thought it would be when I knew about it in 2016.

The second symbol is actually part of the greek alphabet since ancient times; it sounds like an "F".

oh my GAWD!!!!!!! Quentin Tarantino said this is his favorite western. Martin Scorsese loaned a copy from his PERSONAL COLLECTION OF FILM PRINTS. Pauline Kael said it was THE film that redefined the revisionist western. Tony Zhou made a video essay about how every single frame is a ravishing feast of sensory delight. Demi Adejuyigbe spoke about its LGBT thinly veiled TRANS METAPHOR.
>>
>>205596921

This song immediately stood out to me when watching Phenomena. Sounds like something out of a Nintendo 64 game:
https://youtu.be/1jgOdR1KKyU
>>
>>205597726
That is great, but the best music in Phenomena and the best piece of music i've ever heard in a horror film is this: https://youtu.be/rJZ__uy7T_Y?si=LriRyATXDyjdub-W
>>
>>205596921
It is great, yes.
>>
>>205596864
I think it matches the music, which uses a lot of staccato anyway.
>>
How should I start with Tarkovsky? Andrei Rublev or Stalker? Or something else?
>>
>>205598062
Stalker.
>>
>>205597925
>>205597726
>>205597863
I like that he used heavy metal music for Phenomena and Opera. Makes those films feel pretty different from their predecessors. Also, 80s Argento >>>>>>>> 70s Argento
>>
>>205598062
Ivan's Childhood -> Solaris -> Stalker -> Nostalgia -> Mirror -> The Sacrifice -> Andrei Rublev
that's the order I would recommend watching his films, but really you can go in whatever order you want
>>
>>205598062
I feel like Andrei Rublev is more accesible and likeable than Stalker, but it depends on if you like more religious imagery or sci fi in your movies; if you like religious stuff go for Andrei, if not, go for Stalker.
>>
>>205598196
Interesting order I don't know if I'm going to buy all films at once though but I'll get Solaris and Stalker

>>205598199
I like both
>>
>>205598062
Ivan's Childhood
>>
>>205598169
>80s Argento >>>>>>>> 70s Argento
Agreed, even though Suspiria is his best.
>>
>>205598416
My exact thoughts, but Opera might give it a run for its money. He really started to feel like "Argento" to me when Suspiria came out; before that, it felt like he was too influenced by Bava, kinda like doing some Bava joints more than Argento flicks.

>right now I don't even know if Opera is superior to Suspiria
It’s not, however it’s easily in Argento’s top 5. Top 3 would be a much tougher call but I think I prefer Opera over Deep Red even. Deep Red drags at times if you watch the extended 2hr+ version where it occasionally cuts to Italian while Suspiria is the perfect length and Tenebre never drags.
Watching Opera, everything looks high-quality like Suspiria and Tenebre; I’m a big fan of JCon but in comparison, Phenomena feels like a step down in quality, like it was shot on a lower budget. I just can’t shake that “made-for-TV” vibe it gives off. I love the soundtracks for all of ‘em though.

thoughts on Anora? I saw it yesterday, I think it was a pretty vulgar and mid movie.
It was a mix between Home alone and Pretty woman.
MM was so damn hot but the acting was poor, all she said were swear words.
I cannot believe it won Cannes.
>>
>>205603272
I literally don't give a shit about Greed, and don't even want to watch it, I am only asking because it feels like a missed opportunity not to go since so many third worlders seem to jerk it off.

>>
>>205603361
Cannes has been bought with bribe money since the 70s. Both Ridley Scott, Rossellini, and Welles have confirmed it.
>>
>>205603412
The Taviani brothers movie that won over Scott's Duelists was much better than Duelist's, therefore i don't give a shit if it was bribed, and I doubt any bribe happened, Ridley is just bitter to this day plus senile
>>
>>205603461
My point is that Cannes is pay to play and has been for half a century. Who cares if degenerate trash like Anora wins, Sean Baker probably paid for the palm door
>>
>>205603211
well this is a lazy suggestion maybe but To Live and Die in LA, also by friedkin, is definitely as good as the french connection and also has some great action set pieces so i think you will find it very enjoyable

trash films with money behind it
Sena Baker has been fundraising his palm door for his entire career now
>>
>>205602929
It's one of his best films, top 3 I would say. It's well structured, pretty rigids but then becomes more erratic and absurd. I liked the absurdity, it's his funniest film. Nobody's Hero had similar attempts and absurdity and boulevard comedy but it never really cohered because the film is all over the place. Here it does, he first puts in the structure and then unravels it. It's not as dark as Stranger by the Lake or Staying Vertical but it's still quite disturbing. His work with Claire Mathon is really good, although he never achieves the level of some of the shots in Staying Vertical.

people are afraid to say this but shinya tsukamoto is a hack, oriental grifter, fortune cookie filmmaker, etc. He himself and the press stylize his films as craaaaazy and transgressive when nothing he does really is. nothing he does is genuinely challenging or shocking or offensive or pushing the form in any way at all. His films exist for complacent whites to gawk at in revival cinemas and collect dust in the form of super deluxe boutique blu ray discs.

Just want to let the griftshitter know that Tsai's use of essentially accessible Chinese pop music in his films really caters to my RYMified, contrarian western gaze (it's like western pop music but in CHING CHONG SPEAK which is so heckin interesting) like nothing else. And yes, my good buddy Joel Haver put me onto his work. Just thought that you'd better update your paradigm to make it that the inclusion of any music other than the most repellent, shitty wailing kinda shit like you get in Japanese theatre is grift.

Tetsuo is a filtering machine, Tetsuo II even more so. Some days ago, people were getting filtered by the homo plot in Tetsuo that they never even knew existed
