Omg, I hate when they do this. Godfather III Coda was such a bizarre way to massacre the OG (and underrated) Godfather III. I hate all of this director cut nonsense. Donnie Darko was ruined by the horrible DC, same with Blade Runner. Only film I remember actually needing that DC was LotR I, whose theatrical cut sucked massive dick.
>not the real sound, not the real film
I also hate when they take silent films and put a new soundtrack in pristine quality played by an orchestra instead of using something that approximates the OG soundtrack in shitty quality. Bizarre pet peeve, but it is what it is.

Pristine sound quality better approximates the experience of listening to musicians playing the score inside the theater, as was the style at the time. But yes, they should record the original compositions whenever possible, instead of writing brand new scores.

completely wrong. it has a very high letterboxd score as well as a high (for an "art" film) IMDB score. nothing in the film itself would "filter" anyone with any basic cinematic knowledge, cause it's a basic horror movie. it's popular and well received because of that.

>it has a very high letterboxd score as well as a high (for an "art" film) IMDB score.
Irrelevant. Tark and the guy that directed Possession have equally high scores and they are filtering machines. People just rate them highly because they think they will look like plebs if they say their true opinions about them
>nothing in the film itself would "filter" anyone with any basic cinematic knowledge, cause it's a basic horror movie.
The idea that "it's a basic horror movie" is what makes people look over the obvious homo themes. Not basic at all in form or content matter.
>it's popular and well received because of that.
It's popular and well received because it looks cool. Same thing that happens to other filters like Midori or Uzumaki. Just arthoes / softboys wanting to have a t shirt with the "Tetsuo screaming dude"

extremely frustrating to watch The Birth of the Nation! it's basically a marvel of sustained creativity and vision, and it's easy to see how its influence reverberates even today but (and I know this might be wrong forum to air this objection) it is unconscionable to subscribe or endorse racism Griffith portrays as heroic.

also, like, how could he not foresee that it would be controversial, or that it would have pushback? "was he stupid"?

I just rewatched this last night because on Friday I went and watched the Wicked musical.
Man, it was a lot of fun. The performances were great, the dialogue was fun and witty at some points and very serious when it needed to be. It honestly made me want to watch the upcoming movie more. I'll be curious how close it is to the play.
The dumb thing about the musical is how it essentially drops an atomic bomb on the original Oz story. The obvious question of how they were friends only to become enemies is resolved in an even dumber way than I could have ever conceived.

>If I recall correctly, this scene heavily implies that Shiro went to heaven after saving his unborn daughter.
His sister and his wife also ascended as well. I personally love this scene because it goes to show you that even in death it's never too late to change and commit a last act of selflessness and kindness even at the cost of remaining in Purgatory or Hell for all eternity.

Sleeping on Dark Waters- an okay watch, was fun just seeing the bros hangin out while makin movies. Their “smoke machine” was pretty shockingly low budget/DIY. Watching them film on an open highway, blowing shitloads of smoke across multiple lanes while live traffic drives through it, and the actors try to carry a mattress along side it, looked like a fucking nightmare to deal with. Nice seeing how they did the butterfly shot and the last shot of the film, as those were some of my favorites.1st AD looked like the hero of the set (as they usually are).

>Dors regularly held adult parties at her home. There, a number of celebrities, amply supplied with alcohol and drugs, mixed with young starlets against a background of both softcore and hardcore porn films.[4] Dors gave all her guests full access to the entire house; her son Jason Lake later alleged in various media interviews and publications that she had equipped it with 8 mm movie cameras. The young starlets were made aware of the arrangements and were allowed to attend for free in return for making sure that their celebrity partners performed in bed at the right camera angles.[4] Dors later enjoyed watching the films, keeping an archive of the best performances.

Pretty astonishing that such an experimental film from a great filmmaker was so little talked about. I have seen this a week ago and while it's flawed but still a major work. What does /film/ think about Fairytale?

I don't want this whole thread to devolve into pedo/anti-pedo discussion, but I agree with you for the most part because if there is a market for that kind of content, someone is going to make it. which I agree is bad because then actual children are being hurt, even if indirectly. but if they are jerking off to things that already exist and/or movies that aren't meant to be pedophilic, I don't see the issue. it's probably unethical, but I don't really care

Rewatched Yi Yi last night, the best scene in the movie is when the wife is having an existential breakdown while the couple next door fights in the background, and you see the reflection of the cars on the street on their apartment window as the husband dims their lights.
