>>205611083>director's cut is reconstructed from gore vidal's 'notes'Omg, I hate when they do this. Godfather III Coda was such a bizarre way to massacre the OG (and underrated) Godfather III. I hate all of this director cut nonsense. Donnie Darko was ruined by the horrible DC, same with Blade Runner. Only film I remember actually needing that DC was LotR I, whose theatrical cut sucked massive dick.>not the real sound, not the real filmI also hate when they take silent films and put a new soundtrack in pristine quality played by an orchestra instead of using something that approximates the OG soundtrack in shitty quality. Bizarre pet peeve, but it is what it is.

>>205611317Pristine sound quality better approximates the experience of listening to musicians playing the score inside the theater, as was the style at the time. But yes, they should record the original compositions whenever possible, instead of writing brand new scores.
>>205611670It's too weird for my ears to watch the film in shitty quality with a FLAC CD audio track in the background. Concerts are actually very different sounding to recordings, but I get your point.
>>205611317>>205611670I always mute the soundtrack and put on whatever I want to listen to
What are some silents that are available in great quality?I was really impressed with how well The Golem (1920) has been preserved.
>people are afraid to say this but shinya tsukamoto is a hack, oriental grifter, fortune cookie filmmaker, etc. He himself and the press stylize his films as craaaaazy and transgressive when nothing he does really is. nothing he does is genuinely challenging or shocking or offensive or pushing the form in any way at all. >>205615406>not even worth addressingOpinion discarded>it has a very high letterboxd score as well as a high (for an "art" film) IMDB score.Irrelevant. extremely frustrating to watch The Birth of the Nation! it's basically a marvel of sustained creativity and vision, and it's easy to see how its influence reverberates even today but (and I know this might be wrong forum to air this objection) it is unconscionable to subscribe or endorse racism Griffith portrays as heroic. also, like, how could he not foresee that it would be controversial, or that it would have pushback? >>205609890I just rewatched this last night because on Friday I went and watched the Wicked musical. Man, it was a lot of fun. The performances were great, the dialogue was fun and witty at some points and very serious when it needed to be. It honestly made me want to watch the upcoming movie more. I'll be curious how close it is to the play. The dumb thing about the musical is how it essentially drops an atomic bomb on the original Oz story. The obvious question of how they were friends only to become enemies is resolved in an even dumber way than I could have ever conceived.

Sleeping on Dark Waters- an okay watch, was fun just seeing the bros hangin out while makin movies. Their “smoke machine” was pretty shockingly low budget/DIY. Watching them film on an open highway, blowing shitloads of smoke across multiple lanes while live traffic drives through it, and the actors try to carry a mattress along side it, looked like a fucking nightmare to deal with. Nice seeing how they did the butterfly shot and the last shot of the film, as those were some of my favorites.1st AD looked like the hero of the set (as they usually are). Strictly for Tsai fans. >>205638991I don't want this whole thread to devolve into pedo/anti-pedo discussion, but I agree with you for the most part because if there is a market for that kind of content, someone is going to make it. which I agree is bad because then actual children are being hurt, even if indirectly. but if they are jerking off to things that already exist and/or movies that aren't meant to be pedophilic, I don't see the issue. it's probably unethical, but I don't really care
We're all probably unethical here.
Better unethical than unethnical.

Rewatched Yi Yi last night, the best scene in the movie is when the wife is having an existential breakdown while the couple next door fights in the background, and you see the reflection of the cars on the street on their apartment window as the husband dims their lights. I should probably finally get around to watching A Brighter Summer’s Day.
>>205641436Yeah, I'm a /mu/ kind of guy, don't know how labels call themselves in /film/ terminology. Boutiques, publishing houses...??
