add music fans to this list as well. you can't look at the highest rated films for like any year past 2000 without being flooded with concert films/visual albums that have only been watched by people that were already fans of the artist(s)

I've said this countless times, but I'll say it again anyway. the community on letterboxd is complete ass, but functionality/UI wise there isn't a film logging site that comes close. I personally still love the site because of the amount of great films it introduced me to, but I wouldn't mind if the majority of the community killed themselves

>Lizzy is a tough, resourceful frontierswoman settling a remote stretch of land on the 19th-century American frontier. Isolated from civilization in a desolate wilderness where the wind never stops howling, she begins to sense a sinister presence that seems to be borne of the land itself, and when a newlywed couple arrive at a nearby homestead, their presence amplifies Lizzy’s fears, setting into motion a shocking chain of events.

Man, A Single Man was completely devastating. Why is Tom Ford never mentioned as one of the best directors of the 21st century? This movie is really on another level. >he seems to be more interested in being a gay fashion designer than producing kino
I mean, -it's a loss for kino-, but I understand his POV. Being a gay fashion designer is a pretty kino job in of itself.

My critique of the lemon:
>Linda Linda Linda
Probably should be watched by everyone once in a lifetime
>Shoplifters
Hated that shit, even though it looked A E S T H E T I C
>Love Exposure
Not very good, overrated almost on a Lebowski level imo. Every year that passes I realize more and more how meh the film is
>Lily Chou-Chou
Not for everyone
>Yi Yi
Not for everyone, but yes for everyone interested in kino
>Kamikaze Girls
Much better than the scum which he later directed, but still highly meh. Not even close to essential
>Perfect Days
Just aight. Will be forgotten in one year or two
>Drive My Car
Essential for kinoheads only
>Parasite
Probably essential for kino casuals and enthusiasts, but not for everybody
>Oldboy
Overrated shite
>Fallen Angels
Ass
>Audition
Only for hardcore kino fans and /hor/heads
>Brighter Summer Day
Filter machine even for mid level kinoheads. You need to be on at least a /film/ level of knowledge to get it
>Mood for Love
Probably essential for normies, as this shit has been overrated to hell and back by them. Babby's first arthouse
>Hausu
Probably should be watched by everyone even though it's kinda meh
>Battle Royale
Not for everyone, not even kinoheads will get it
>Suicide Club
One of Sono's biggest filters can't be for everyone. Exit level cinema
So, overall, one (1) essential for everyone film on that list. Yikes.

like it or not, America is the media epicenter of the world. they don't need foreign films to show in their theaters or on television because they already produce more than enough media on their own. the internet/streaming services have changed that somewhat, but most Americans still just watch American produced media, and there is more than enough of it to go around

Time is the only way. You’re fucked bro. I remember when I was young and just got into film. Around this time I had only logged a couple thousand films on letterboxd. I was super fucking crying and insufferable to be around. I couldn’t tolerate certain movies and used to get emotional about it. I would feel like physically assaulting others if they like certain types of movies. My blood would boil so much that I couldn't concentrate on anything besides my hatred. I used to say things like “You can’t appreciate Godard films while divorcing them from his politics,” and “The Silent era should’ve gone for another 50 years. We weren’t ready. The talkies were a mistake.”

The /film/ Next 100 is more normal than the Top 100, though. Big classics like Eight and a Half didn't make it on the Top 100 despite being represented on pretty much every canon list outside of /film/. I recognize 90% of the films on the Next 100, yet I didn't recognize like 40% of the Top 100 when it came out.

That KG list, -while obviously kinocentric in itself-, is just so generic. Pretty much a RYM top 100 with a few spicy picks here and there. Only thing that impressed me was the Saló representation in the top 50, underrated and misunderstood joint worthy of all kinds of praise.

The ultimate redpill is that lists that aggregate multiple opinions of too many people always end up moving towards a boring and homogenised consensus, with some "wilder" picks here and there. I find looking at individual lists like much more interesting and rewarding because you actually see different movies and more unique opinions. Like Hamaguchi's 50 favourites, or Kiyoshi's or Costa's.

>I want to try some actual mexican tacos tho
Very different from US tacos, but I'm gonna play devil's advocate and say that, if you're from LATAM, tacos done in your country are probably not that far off from mexican tacos. It's more of a question of the culture and mexican landscapes that I miss personally.

nta, but how different are Mexican street tacos from a taco truck in Texas compared to authentic Mexican tacos? I've never had authentic Mexican tacos from Mexico, but I have had taco truck tacos and they can be very good (depending on the taco truck). I feel like they are probably pretty similar since it's always Mexicans who can barely speak English making them

>>
>>205694238
Depends on the truck and depends on where you are in Mexico- both can dumb down the spice/flavor for stupid American tourists.
But if you get a good food truck, it’s pretty decently close. Still nothing beats the real deal of course, but now we get into philosophy behind authenticity/aesthetics/culture/etc and how much importance/value/influence that is

the good taco trucks I like definitely don't dumb down the spice/flavor. >>
>>205694224
A 2.5 from Nanako is like a 8/10 from a normal reviewer. Film's probably a 10/10 based on that.

>>205694238
Mexican taquerías can vary from place to place. I never had street tacos, but went to some very cheap taquerías and they didn't go ham on the spice, in fact, they actually always put the spice separated from the food so that you can add the quantity that you like to them. The most brutal spicy food I've had is from Perú, that was even too much from me, and my family and me are spice addicts.
