What do you guys think of Serpent's Egg? I got so excited seeing the opening credits and first scene or two. But Carradine is probably the worst lead I've seen in a Bergman film, and it feels like it slides pretty quickly into cheap melodrama. The narration is trash too. I'm bummed.

How does anybody justify holding Serpent's Egg in high regard? The evil doctor could've been lifted directly from a James Bond movie or a comic book. Carradine is dogshit. Pretty sure it's supposed to be that way.
>I don't get it, please convince me.
The rest of the movie is what you have to look at. The darkness, the beautiful settings and clothes, the desperation... overall, it is a very sinister film about a very sinister time. You either like it with its flaws or you reject it. I can understand why someone would see it like a failure, but if a filmmaker other than the Berg made it, it would be considered a work of art or at least a cult classic.

is there anything worse than a film being "cohesive" ? what a worthless bit of praise to heap unto a film. for me, I like things that could be described as "messy" or "unfocused" by math brained deadends. /films/ for this feel?
>>

yeah?

i really likes the first part of the movie

i get what youre saying
cohesion isnt really praise and can be even antithetical to the whole idea of abstract symbolism and aesthetic semiotics which is what film is about

however i am not really a fan of the 60s kind of psychoanalysis nonsense going on in a lot of these kinda films though i wouldnt say the second part of the film is bad

An isis movie from 2019 that takes place in 2020? Too late. This probably written a few years before, ans you can tell pretty early into the film that not by De Palma. It's nothing until it gets to the torada, then it's good old De Palma until the end. He should've retired after Passion, which is pure De Palma and would've have been a fine final film to a great career.

Lol. Japan already heavily declined immediately after their fifties golden age was over. Their cinema degenerated into nothing but stories of gangsters, rapists and precocious teenagers (sometimes in variable combinations), plus cartoons for the mentally underdeveloped. Only a few decent directors emerged after that period, like Yoji Yamada or Kohei Oguri.

1. No, they didn't.
2. Even if they did, we're 100 years deep into cinema being an artistic medium and I don't think there has been a great American film since the 50s at the latest, and meanwhile the rest of the world has utterly shit on them since then.

SNES and PSX really, but Wii era was the last time that games had a lot of SOVL in them. Even in the 3DS era, -where there were lots of bangers-, many of the first party titles sucked (3DS Smash Bros, for example, felt unfinished and playability was very stiff when compared to Melee or even Smash 64 or Brawl). Last good Pokémon game was X/Y btw, Alpha Saphire/Omega Ruby were already power creeping shit into the sky with Mega Rayquaza. Kinda sad to see how unbalanced the new gen Pokémon games are.
