I want to ask you all a simple question.
What is cinema?
>>
>>205768663
Matt Walsh should make a documentary on that very topic!
>>
>>205768601
rightwingers only watch films to make themselves feel comforted/reassured in the beliefs spoonfed them by Fox News and Elon Musk. they don't care about artistic value or art itself. look at the kinds of grifters they are obsessed with. the whole "anti-woke" scene. The Daily Wire. its a joke.
why would we encourage that?
>>
>>205768663
Cinema is that which tells stories through the magic of motion pictures.

there is this chart, but it is more focused on politics as a whole vs one particular side. also, it wasn't made by this /film/

no? you look at LGBT people's taste in films its incredibly varied and they don't ignore classics just because they were made by a conservative, meanwhile conservatives lose their shit if a movie has a black woman in it
>>
>>205769138
false, there's no difference between both sides
>>
>>205769138
you're joking, right? have you ever been to the letterboxd comment section of a film with conservative views? the reviews are always filled with trannies screeching about how the film is "problematic" and how these views "shouldn't be encouraged" etc. you're just making shit up to try and prove yourself right now. anyway shut the fuck up about politics, and get back to discussing kino

Some suggestions:

A Boy and His Dog
The Man Who Would be King
The Wicker Man
Gone with the Wind
Rashomon
Cool Hand Luke
Hardcore
Deliverance
The Last Detail
Gallipoli
The Last Wave
Conan the Barbarian
The Emerald Forest
Flesh and Blood
The Edge
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
The Hunt

I know I have opened myself to criticism that some of these can be considered leftist films, but I would defend my choices.

I acknowledge that, and my definitions may be a bit different than yours. For me, all films that endorse views are bad. A good film captures the truth and allows the audience to interpret, rather than attempting to condition the audience to hold a view.

So from that perspective I would argue that films like Sound of Freedom are bad films because they are heavy handed, propagandistic, even though they appeal to right-wingers. And likewise, leftist films that try to condition people (90% these days) are bad.

>The Wicker Man
A core theme in the movie is the survival of ancient matriarchal fertility religion in a region dominated by patriarchal Anglo-Saxons. It shows the horror of the feminine without proper restraint, how it lies in wait even when appearing to have been conquered.

>Hardcore
While masquerading as a critique of the Puritan mindset, the overall effect of the movie is to leave the audience with an impression of the dishonesty and degeneracy of the liberal way of life. The critique of the father can remain intact without disturbing the critique of the sex industry, suggesting the possibility of a middle path between the extremes.

>Deliverance
At first glance, it appears to be a typical Hollywood swipe at the whites living in flyover country. But if you choose to disregard the politics of perceptions of Appalachia, the real conflict is between man as a beast and man that overcomes the beast within. The two effeminate, liberal men suffer for it, and survival is achieved only through masculinity. If you view the leftist as a materialist, as a beast, resenting the successes of those who master themselves instead of letting their base desires master them, then the movie is deeply conservative despite its facade.

>>
>>205772024
:). You guys sure did a lot of talking while i was asleep.
>>
>>205771933
The Wicker Man is much deeper than it initially appears. It is deeply connected to theories about Phoenician/Western Semitic religious practices influencing Celts/Druids, for example. An understanding of those themes/theories/realities makes the movie a political statement in the context of an occult war that rarely becomes visible to the mainstream eye.

I think it's fair to say that leftism opposes masculinity, and that rightists support it. To me, the true essence of leftism is the resentment of superiority, stemming from the leftists own feelings of inferiority, as my Uncle Ted used to say. Anything that depicts the triumph of strength, truth, righteousness, masculinity, self-mastery, etc, is inherently right-wing for me. In some cases, I think directors only get away with making works that support those things by cloaking them in the facade of liberalism.
>>

I'm not either; I'm libertarian. But in terms of today's politics that makes me an ultraconservative nazi. The only dichotomy that matters is between good and evil. All others are false dichotomies. But today leftists are so closely aligned with evil that anyone who supports simple goodness is right-wing by default.

>>205773150
90% of what I read is academic books, with almost nothing being explicitly political. But the books I have found most influential to my thinking are Walden, the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius, The Apology of Socrates and related dialogues, the Dhammapada, Might is Right (not taking it straight), and the Manipulated Man. I also place high value on Atrahasis, Gilgamesh, Enuma Elish, The Iliad and the Odyssey, and Hesiod. Understanding the soul of mythology refines a man in ways that little else can.

This was kino. The Seed of the Sacred Fig was alright but I can see this taking the win over it just because of the political climate.
The direction was literally spotless, and the acting was so natural you could forget it was acting. Pretty good shit. Stacked year for best international feature.

Does the late 60's/early 70's colourful aesthetic of spy movies have a name? You know the one that is all kind of futuristic in the sense of espionage technology and full of bright colours but normal for everything else.
