Guys, I'm crying right now.

Just looking at her picture makes me feel something strange inside. I guess you could call it "love". I'm in love with Wendy. I've lost interest in all girls, besides her.

Wendy really is all I think about all day, every day. I really do cry myself to sleep at night thinking about how I'll never be with her. If only she knew I existed in this life, if only she knew my deep profound love for her. I know that will never happen though. That is the thought that makes me so sad when I look at her. I'll never be with her, but I'll continue to love her until the day I die.

What a stupid fucking map. The corp thing has been completely flanderized. In Alien they worked for a singular sinister company but there was a competent earth military and the company wasn't all pervasive. Now Alien has been reduced to a franchise in which you get comical corporate slavery and a short haired girl boss who incidentally meets a few xenos along the way.

The next bit of Alien media that will be worth watching will be the first one with a male protag.

That would flop because they have zero creativity. The alien would mog insanely hard with the mysterious Giger tone and threatening parasitic life cycle.

They would just have "jungle alien world #934068" and "desert planet with 2 moons"
>>
>>214356328
its an interesting idea but under what circumstances would a creature like even evolve in the first place?

>>
>>214356475
It's not even interesting. The alien already has a novel and sinister take on parasitism, this is just a zombie alien parasite alien sue.

Eye ball on tentacles is something a 6 year old would come up with and is so stupid and unconvincing. There's no conceivable way it could work or would evolve and it makes the whole show so silly it cheapens the xeno being next to it.

Seems like it is FTL, but the FTL engines need a shit load of time to actually get to FTL speeds (and even then, still pretty "slow" FTL). The cryopods seem to be literally to save on crew's resources and sanity, instead of having to be up and about for months to years on end, waiting for the engines to spool up and do their thing.

>Why is it okay when Alien Erf does it, but not when Prometheus or Covenant does it?
Look, this is /tv/, and it's stuffed full of advertisement jeets, maybe second only to /v/. Notice how the diehard defenders of the shittiest shows evaporate whenever a series ends? When their contract expires, they go in search of new rupees elsewhere, and the "fanbase" shrivels away to a few clueless fa/tv/irgins obsessing over one of the female actresses.

would it tho? light speed is just how fast photons travels, I don't see how something traveling faster than photons is gonna warp space, unless it's a literal space warp engine.
like, proxima century is about 4 light years away, and the planet they took the eggs from is on zeta reticuli that is already 39 light years away alone, they probably went even farther to pick the eye nigga and the other bugs, so even "faster than light" still would take some time.

I'm pretty sure that FTL has to be sped up to, and that it is exponential in the Alien universe.
It is also influenced by mass. The Nostromo made it to Thedus in eight months. Yet, it was supposed to take ten months to get back from Thedus.
And, when they got stopped at LV-426, it was mentioned that it was still going to be ten months to get back. So the whole speeding up and slowing down from FTL speeds is what takes up the majority of spaceflight in the Alien universe. Until at least the Sulaco. It was a little more than two weeks to go from Earth to LV-426. So the technology got better between the Maginot, to Nostromo, to Sulaco.
Maginot still had four months of slowing down from Saturn to Earth, 800 million miles.
Nostromo made it from Earth to Neptune in a month, 2.7 billion miles.
Granted, the Maginot was operating on 2050s tech engines, and the Nostromo left Earth with freshly refitted 2120 engines.
70 year engine tech difference.

that's impressive as thedus is about 60 light years away, I think the exponential speed up make sense.
now imagine the maginot speeding up and slowing down between multiple planets and even systems, I personally don't believe they picked all the ayys from a single planet.
I really like this idea because warp engines sounds fucking bullshit, even the infinite improbability drive seems more believable.

Fitting, given the history of the Maginot Line:
"The French military's Maginot Line (in use from 1935 to 1940, named after interwar period Minister of War and War Pensions André Maginot) has come to stand as one of the great symbols of shortsightedness, Myopic Architecture, stupidity, denial, and utter failure. The French built the most advanced system of fortifications that the world had ever seen — and, in the popular imagination, just sat there in their fortifications while the Germans bypassed them entirely in early World War II by invading indirectly through an area where the line was incomplete, and then the French just sort of gave up."

The Nostromo wasn't even twenty years old in 2120.
Yet, it got brand new top of the line engines before leaving Earth on it's ill fated mission.
The new engines were beastly. Far in excess of what a ship that size needed, but perfect for long haul ore refinery movement.
I mean, they were killing two birds with one stone, converting ore into separate metals, and carrying it to Earth. Using the travel time to break down and convert the ore is pretty smart. Show up with millions of tons of metal, ready to go and purified.
Over thirty years ago, I read L Ron Hubbard's Mission Earth series. Man was insane, but he was a genius at writing with a bent for scifi.
He had an engine in the story that was scary. There were only two of these engines produced, and the one that was tested in a ship worked fine, until it vanished, never to be seen again.
The second was taken by the main character who made modifications to the ship itself to allow the engines to bleed off excess energy.
They were called Will Be/Was Drives, and worked by pushing off against itself.
They had infinite acceleration and deceleration, as long as you could bleed off the energy created. The main character figured out that the test ship did not bleed off enough energy, which led to an infinite acceleration, and the engines just kept pushing the ship faster and faster, until it passed the point of being able to slow down due to energy buildup, and was trapped in a neverending speed up cycle.
Supposedly, the engines pushed against the idea of displacement, You will be here/I was there. I can't remember it exactly, but it led to much, much faster than light travel.
I think that is similar to the infinite improbability type drive you mentioned.

I do remember that the engines caused nausea inside the ship, like carsickness, as the people onboard the ship could feel the dozens of tiny pushes the ship was experiencing every second. Like riding on a car rumble strip the entire time. A couple people on the ship were nauseated by it only to find out that meds were available to ignore the nausea, but since they skipped the briefing detailing the possible side effects, they missed that bit.
Seems like cryosleep in the Alien universe negates these side effects of acceleration and deceleration. I really need to read the Mission Earth series again, but fuck me it's ten books long. It's a laugh riot too. They were all written in the last few years of Hubbard's life after he became a recluse, so he just goes whole hog into just needling EVERYTHING about Earth culture.
And, he was ahead of his time. He rips on psychiatry and psychology being used as a form of population and control over people, down to shoveling drugs down kids throats to make them gay and liberal. Even to the point where one of the characters is captured and tortured by "lesbians" for fun, gets loose, and later captures them and pretty much rapes them straight. Then, the women he made straight bring him more women to get dicked down and converted. He gets paid to do it too.
Shit's hilarious. The whole story is that Earth in the 80s is rapidly approaching thermonuclear all out war, which would piss of this alien race, as the Earth is on their invasion timetable, but not for another hundred years, so they send a guy to Earth to introduce cleaner technology than nuclear and coal, yet he is constantly stymied by big corporations in his attempts.
It's a laugh riot.

We know that Weyland-Yutani acquired the Nostromo as a Lockheed-Martin Bison class transport vessel and reoutfitted it extensively, including replacing the old Saturn J-3000’s with new Rolls Royce N66 engines. We know the N66 uses water as “reaction mass”, so my guess is that the water (maybe mixed with something heavy like boron? Maybe refined to deuterium?) is shot into a superheated reaction chamber, undergoing fusion and being expelled as plasma. You would get about 10% of light speed from this, which would probably be enough for WY since the ore has to refine on the way. They’d be out for about 5 years.

The Sulaco can go FTL so that must be using a different (more expensive, probably) technology.
>>
>>214362197
I take more issue with the instantaneous travel methods, like warping space and shit. exponential acceleration is fine, and treating faster than light speeds as normal speeds instead of some physics breaking ones (as in the speed itself, not the actual physics breaking stuff to achieve those speeds).
infinite improbability drive work more like space warp + wormhole travel, but instead of going from wormhole to wormhole until you reach your destination or warping space to instantaneously travel to another point in space, it warps space into an another universe where it's parallel "overlapped" space is "closer" to the destination and doing it over and over again as a form of shortcuts until you come back to the original universe destination, it's really fast but not quite instantaneous.

I'm going to say it even though it will get blasted.
It was deuterium fuel.
The original novelization written in 1979 before the movie was released, but using the movie and notes and direct oversight by Scott and crew mentioned heavy water deuterium.
Side note, the book also mentioned the facehuggers as having suckers on the palms in addition to fingers, which is backed up by the notes and pictures released.
The writer did not get to view the movie, but had all of the script and finished scenes and guidance, including the eggmorphing scene that was cut.
The movie cut a little bit after the book was released.

Will Be/Was engines build up rapidly.
The trip from the alien planet Voltar to Earth took three days, and it was some ridiculous distance that traditional engines they had would take months to cover.
Again it was a long time ago that I read it. They didn't have time travel either, the did have something they called "time sights" which were like a vr microscope or something where you could fix on a position and roll forward and backward to view the future, but once you saw it, that was what was going to happen at that moment and place no matter what you did.
A Doctor Who type thing. You lock in a sequence of events by viewing them.

Why does Hawley not give a shit about continuity? I'm not a huge nitpicker, I just want the basic timeline to make sense and for movies that have come out in the last decade to not be blatantly contradicted. There's a point where things crosses over from the viewer looking for plot holes to plot holes being hard to ignore, and this nonsensical timeline has crossed it for me. You're spinning it as some agenda-driven conspiracy. The motivation is that Hawley wanted to give Morrow his "you've been gone for 65 years and your daughter grew up and died while you were gone" backstory - even though his character doesn't really need that for his motivations and tragedy to work and make sense.

Man, you must hate the original Alien; that’s just a boring linear narrative about a monster eating people in a sci-fi world. How pedestrian. It would be much better if it was an atmospheric slow-burn character driven A24 psych-horror think-film that was actually a metaphor for intersectional oppression, right? Spunkmeyer was dumb for pissing outside of the ship and dropping the ramp.
In all fairness to him though, he saw nothing of what the Marines inside saw, and NONE of the Marines had the time to read the file Gorman told them to read, nor were they briefed at Gateway station.
They just up and dropped the dozen of them into a meatgrinder.
Although, I do think Hicks read some of it. Man was awake so long he fell asleep on the dropship, and agreed with Ripley's choices every step of the way once she impressed him with the loader.

It was trivialized in the original movie already, since it showed that you can pierce it entirely with a simple-ass harpoon gun. This means that if they had a single fucking gun on the ship, the xeno problem would have been dealt with, as long as they could turn on all the lights on the ship, gather and move in a group and flush it out. The xeno was never supposed to be some unstoppable killing machine, it was just supposed to illustrate the terrifying possibilities of what fucked up stuff evolution and/or bio-engineering could come up with, given adequate exotic resources/environment. Despite how much I like the idea and design of the xeno, not even in the original movie/script was it supposed to be the end-goal/point of what they wanted the audience to take away.

What the fuck is this show? How did this happen?

I'd been holding off watching until all episodes were out, but decided to watch first 5 episodes yesterday. I was cautiously optimistic, but this is a disaster. The show is both dumb and boring.

What 's the plot even about? Is it about the child minds in robot bodies? The children who don't actually behave like children but rather retards?

Is is about industrial espionage? By the 'genius' trillionaire who's so far shown zero sign of intelligence. We're just told time and time again that he's really smart somehow.

Is it about the alien? This show is set 2 years before the first film and yet dozens of people are fully aware of the alien and they've already figured out more than people have learnt on all the films combined. Where did any of this knowledge go?

Why does everyone behave so weird? It's like they are not behaving as though they're in the situation they're in. It was bad but then I got to episode 5 and I couldn't take it anymore with that crew of people who were just behaving so strangely. That scene where the security guy is telling them the ship is going to crash and there's a saboteur on board, but people are just talking over each other about wages and food. I had to make sense of it by telling myself they had all gone nuts on their long voyage.

How did someone get their hands on the Alien property and be allowed to produce this rambling nonsensical show?

Hawley already wanted to do a story about androids and AI when he was about to make a new Star Trek movie. When that got scrapped he probably repurposed some idea for Alien Earth, tacked on a plot about xenomorphs and threw in the dumbest Alien clichees.

>multiple directors/writers ruin cohesion
>retarded editing, reshuffling scenes that doesnt serve a benefit to the viewer, likely due to the studio's orders
>ep5 a complete rehash of things we already knew/saw glimpses of

Im pretty sure just telling the story linearly would cut away 10%+ of runtime
as to people acting strange: thats a common theme in the Alien franchise, best example is David in Prometheus - in essence everyone starts questioning their own place in the hierarchy when confronted with a superior being or with the origin of who they deemed to be their master, its an ontological shock that breaks and transforms people like MKULTRA showed
the kids are manchurian candidates, deadly killers but unstable, in this sense they mirror the aliens

>Why does everyone behave so weird? It's like they are not behaving as though they're in the situation they're in.
This is the part that bothers me most about the show. The acting completely takes you out of it, except for Morrow and the greasemonkey I guess. It feels like after every tense moment, someone will quip and wink at the camera.

My favorite example of that has to be when hermit took a baseball and reminisced about the past after the xenomorph just shreded a party of people

You can't do a 30 hour long 'survive the xenomorph monster' story, so just make a different story which could be its own thing easily and then put xenos in as an addition.

>This show is set 2 years before the first film and yet dozens of people are fully aware of the alien and they've already figured out more than people have learnt on all the films combined. Where did any of this knowledge go?
The crew of the Maginot are(supposed to be) professionals specifically tasked with bringing in the aliens, and WY seem keen on keeping it under wraps.
The crew of the Nostromo are wagie space truckers who just happened to cruise by the moon with xeno eggs, which WY already knew of and valued which is why they sent Ash.
This part is really not a plothole.

Holy shit why does every new dad feel the INSUFFERABLE need to make every fucking thing they write about having kids. This has fucking RUINED so many video games, too. Almost every prestige game for the past decade has been some serious aging hairy faggot musing about raising a precocious kid.

I’m not saying you shouldn’t love your kids. I’m not saying stories about kids are inherently uninteresting. But oh my God why do all these uncreative faggots assume I’m passionately interested in the very mundane fact that they now have a toddler? This isn’t your personal dad Twitter! Holy shit!

God, all this useless bullshit about kids in the show makes total sense now.

rewatching Aliens made me think this outfit of marines is dumb and highly expendable, selected on purpose certainly by Burke (who is the guy who specifically sent Newt's parents to check the by then very well known Derelict ship, Ripley mentions this after the scene with her and newt and the facehuggers in the medbay).
I say this by looking at the "marine briefing" scene, where the marines are in the presence of their superior officers (Apone and Gorman) but are not in formation or in "Attention" posture, instead are slouching about, side eyeing and mocking their superiors, and both Apone and Gorman aren't immediately correcting them, letting them act like thugs, until Gorman eventually has them review everything. During the mission, they disobey Gorman and use firearms, causing the reactor to begin overheating and later exploding. Even Gorman is a very inexperienced Commanding Officer, as he states during the drop and demonstrates later. In fact, the mission would've gone better for Burke if he hadn't taken Ripley at all.

So yeah, company sending expendable dumb crews is kind of a repeating trope, down to the biographies of all the crew of the Nostromo that shows up in the start of Aliens and extra material, where they're all fuck ups in one way or another, or new like Ripley.

same. facepalmed too many times thinking "what the fuck am i watching", hated every non-alien scene (the "children" interacting, the weirdo rich guy, which constitutes 50% of the show and is their main focus), and the xeno is just a side inconvenience and a KWAB instead of having an almost divine, reverential importance of the movies

recently bought Aliens Dark Descent and you can tell they put a shitload of attention to detail, attention to atmosphere, good writing and S O U L into that game, worth a check.
