Star Trek: Sex with Shran
Premiering 2026 on Paramount+

Was anything interesting announced for Star Trek Day? New collectables, throwbacks, anything to acknowledge when the series was good?

i dunno it's just like, if I was Archer, I would have seduced this man. i like the way he treated women. he shut down Tarah who was challenging him without being over the top about it and still looked strong. and he made Talas and Jahmel feel safe and loved when they were scared and vulnerable. therefore: sex with shran. in case any of you were curious as to the workings of my mind
>>
>>214383923
Nope
They made some kind of Paw Patrol shorts but called it Star Trek
>>
>>214383933
Yeah I just saw that. It’s neat how they’re trying to get tail end Gen Alpha/Gen Beta into the franchise. But just throw some TOS on for your 6 year old. They’ll love it.

it's sad how kids can't have their own shit anymore. it's always IP slop from shit their parents liked when they were kids.
>>
When are we getting a Michael Burnham and 7 of 9 (Picard era) buddy space cop Star Trek comedy?

7 is the serious one who plays by the rules but is VERY promiscuous with the ladies. Michael is a loose canon but saving herself for the right gal. It's also a detective noir where we get competing voiceovers for different perspectives. There's also no men in it. Release date when?

Star Trek is about the future. It goes forward, not back.

So make the show extra-galactic and now you have more or less infinite things to explore
>>
>>214384220
what if they made a star trek that had stuff about the "edge of known space" or like "heat death of the universe" and really far-out shit like that. that's why there needs to be actual science fiction writers involved in trek again. these current gen tv writers have no fucking imagination.

Did they just have a bunch of spare TOS film costumes laying around Paramount that year?
>>
>>214384307
The TOS writers loved the concept of "center of the universe" or "the edge of the universe", things like that. You didn't see those kinds of stories in later Trek.

Trek has always been on the softer side of science fiction though. It does have its moments where it really pushes sci-fi concepts but it's always been more about the human stories in that setting rather than the scientific rules of that setting to me.
>>
>>214384357
Go back and watch the TOS movies and look at all of the extras they have in uniform in some of those segments and you realize, yeah, they probably did have a shitload of them sitting around.
>>
>>214384381
>it's always been more about the human stories in that setting rather than the scientific rules of that setting to me.
the science fiction is the setting in which you tell the human stories. they are supposed to be going where no man has gone before. well ok they're in space. get fucking creative about what is actually out there still new for a human being to experience. that's the whole point!

Vic has been creeping on middle schoolers ever since the OG FMA dub blew up in the states over 20 years ago. He also made lewd comments to his costars but Funimation execs looked the other way. The good news is Sony gutted the entire company a few years ago because of their reputation for stories like this.
>>
>>214385107
So glad I never watched dubbed anime

I was a snob about dubbed anime even in like 2001, kek

Shadow President and Eyes Wide Shut Orgy Choreographer, Vic Mignogna, is extremely well connected. Rich and powerful thousandaires owe him favors. Moreover, he is a master of disguise and carries $52.50 in cash at all times to grease the right palms. He is the puppet master executing The Plan.
The next step of The Plan is the Great DS9 watchalong on Heroes and Icons at 10PM ET/9PM CT. The Great TNG watch along begins this week at 9PM ET/8PM CT. Maintain vigilance. Trust in The Plan. Glory to Heroes and Icons. Death to the Opposition. Mignogna will be free forever. Marion Barry was right: bitch set him up.

I meant going to The Doctor rather than the holodeck.

Really, the amount of plastic surgery they've shown and its quality in the show, being able to make Picard or Troi Romulan, how great the Order did turning Kira into a Cardassian, or Dukat into a Bajoran, etc, plastic surgery would probably be very common... or, would it? Does it contradict Federation values too much, to be so tied into vanity?

It'd be an interesting topic for an episode if handled correctly. I do think plastic surgery is a real societal problem for us right now so addressing it through Trek might work.

So that would be post-Soviet collapse, who were the main benefactors of the PLO & Arab secularists. the PLO was out of money at the time so they were forced to acquiesce to some extent. But overall they gained a lot, and lost very little so it was a net gain for the PLO
You can link between the collapse of the USSR, and the whole Middle East moving under American stewardship pretty easily.

>"I originally read for the role of Quark," says Max Grodénchik, previously seen in the Next Generation episodes "Captain's Holiday" and "The Perfect Mate." But Grodénchik thought that the reading went poorly. "I was so depressed that I went out and sat on the steps at the Gower Street walk-in entrance to the studio. And in a little while Armin came out and befriended me. He said 'You know, I think it was between you and me for the role of Quark.' And I said 'How do you know?' And he said, 'Well, we were the only two short people there.'" The pair went on to discuss all things Ferengi, with Shimmerman mentioning the planned character of Nog, and the fact that he'd heard Nog would have a father. Shimmerman suggested that if Grodénchik didn't get the role of Quark, that Nog's father might be a nice part. After Shimmerman was cast as Quark, Grodénchik says, "Armin actually recommended me for Rom, and they gave it to me."

VP8. Old webm so I probably used webm4retards which is just a ffmpeg gui with avisynth script features. I switched to VP9 handbrake a while back since it gives more predictable bitrates and plays nicer with DS9's weird dvd stuff that desyncs the subtitles. I try not to overthink it and just set the settings to VP9 10-bit and veryslow presets and it usually takes like an hour to encode a minute of video but the result is usually as good as I could expect.

oh its just the DVDs. I think their bitrate is twice that of what you can get on streaming. With some decent upscaling in the video player and you can get something that looks perfectly fine on modern TVs if you ask me. Main problem is stuff like extremely aggressive noise because of how dark the general show is which means they had to film with low sensitive film which just had more noise regardless of what you do. I think that if Paramount tried to remaster the entire show they'd fuck it up by trying to use digital noise reduction.

>>
>>214390670
>wasn't shot on film like tng was
Yes it was
>>
>>214390702
I heard Paramount sold off all their scanning equipment and fired all the techs too.
>>
>>214390678
then its not a remaster, just an upscale. Pedantic semantics yes but the entire point of a remaster is that you actually go find the original negatives and create a completely new digital master scan and perhaps even completely new film prints for archival purposes.
>>
>>214390766
DS9/VOY are basically two shows interlaced. Film and SD CGI
A remaster would be very intensive work but an upscale would be feasible
>>
>>214390464
I always wondered, why not replicate some body armor if you're facing Klingons? It won't stop energy weapons but it'll keep you from getting stabbed to death.
>>
>>214391058
Everyone has the belt force fields from TAS
>>
>>214391058
It has nothing to do with Klingons, but don't the marines in Enterprise wear body armor?
>>
>>214390700
Paramount still has the actual negatives and used those. They could start doing the remaster tomorrow. The difference is that for a documentary they can just handpick specific scenes and pick specific segments of those and scan that. A guy picks up maybe two dozen reels from the archives and finding the scenes in those and scanning them.

For a complete remaster you're looking at scanning about a million feet of 35mm film negatives and going over each frame one by one to find scanning defects. Each episode is like three or four reels, assuming they're edited together as a complete episode, which they're not. And then they have to render all the CGI again and edit in all the CGI onto those negatives. The fact that anyone does this with old shows at all is honestly mindblowing. Paramount-Skydance would probably have to be merged with Amazon or Apple for there to be a budget to do this with voyager and deep space nine.

>>
One of the biggest issues is that the film is completely unorganized. They have to rescan all of the film, organize it and then re-edit everything back together to create an episode. That means they get a lot of unused footage and also have to constantly reference back to the TV broadcast to even figure out how everything was edited together.

I think they announced they lost money on the TNG remaster, and that was all shot in 35mm, from the sets to the miniatures. "All" they had to do was a clean digital transfer of the old film, then redo the old video VFX which is pretty easy with modern computers then cut it all together to the same time code

You could understand why they'd be unenthusiastic about a project that would also require not only the same amount of work as TNG for all the 35mm footage and video FX, but also then paying to recreate all of the pure-CG scenes from the later seasons, from scratch, to the exact split second without any of the assets or programming, for a ratings disappointment spinoff, when they lost money on a much easier transfer for what was the #1 show when it was on the air

You could probably sell them on an AI upscale, and within a year or so that might actually be pretty good if you had high-def photos of the actors and ships and etc to train the models on, and then just have them upscale the old video
