which of these should I pick for some bros and I to watch and discuss after>SuspiriaI dove into Fulci last year, thought this might be a good intro into Argento, who I haven’t watched much of>SinisterReviews seem polarizing, lots of people saying it’s the best Blumhouse production by far, others saying it’s overrated and meh>The OthersPremise seems interesting and it’s less talked about than a lot of others
>>214428818Can you save me some Google searching and tell me what movie
>>214429022Suspiria hands down.>lots of people saying it’s the best Blumhouse production by far, others saying it’s overrated and mehProbably because Sinister falls apart in the last half-hour.
>>214429022I think Tenebrae is the most accessible Argento, I'd start there before watching his supernatural stuff personally. I think it's his best movie aside from that. Sinister is pretty good and creepy but the last third of the movie shits the bed when a spoopy demon is revealed to be behind everything>>214429050Tenebrae
>>214429059thanks anon, initial insights seem interesting, visually the movie looks drop dead gorgeous. none of the bros venture into giallo so it should make for interesting critique. leaning this way
>>214429022>>214429098Depends on what your bros are like. There are great movies that I think would be cringey to try to watch with people in a playful setting. Watch something more "fun" instead when you're with your bros unless they're into artistic movies
Brightburn is alright.
>>214429098I hope you enjoy it, anon. You're in for something special.>visually the movie looks drop dead gorgeous. When you download Suspiria, make sure it's the Synapse release (top) and not Videa (bottom). There's a big difference.
>>214429190oh fuck I’m dumb, should’ve mentioned we are not watching it in a group, rather we watch individually beforehand then meet in person over drinks and record a podcast discussing. I imagine that makes it more palatable >>214429230holy shit what a difference
Damn gotta watch more giallo, the visuals so beautiful.
>Suspiria>giallo
>>214429305Check out Blood & Black Lace
>>214428753MY FRIEND DARIODRIVES A SUPER MEGA CAR
>>214429317Oh yeah
>>214429316>>214429363Forgive me, I’m ignorant of the film and rather poorly versed in the genreI will seek penance through education
Anyone else drawn to horror movies for the absurd stories and dark humor, rather than for the violence?
>>214429414Suspiria is an extremely unusual giallo, but it's still considered one and is probably the most famous movie in the genre. You're fine, that other anon is picking on you. That said, watch as many as you can, it's a crazy, bizarre genre, and the more you see the more you'll appreciate how good Argento and Suspiria specifically are
>>214429430Obviously
Watch Wayward
>>214429430SureHorror is the best genre because there are no rules. You can go dark as fuck or extremely goofy, as long as it's about something trying to kill people, the horror fans will watch it
>>214428817R. Please don't roll his daughter. Inferno had a few cuties though.

Gift Of /film/ >>214427707>>214427707>>214427707
>>214429635Real recognize real.
>>214429430For me its the atmosphere and the fun. Absurd stories and dark humor are part of that fun but also the pacing of horror, especially when movies are like a mixmatch of genres going from a scare through a funny scene, and then from a more action oriented scene to straight up disgusting shit and things like that.
>>214429430For me, it's all of the above.
There’s really no need for this to be a two-hour movie. Some plot points drag the story unnecessarily. The last part with Alex also felt redundant. Showing the villain in plain sight the whole time weakens both the mystery and the narrative’s impact. What is it with modern filmmakers and their insistence on explaining every single detail of every event of the plot?5/10 - some great framing and transitions, okay montage, weak night cinematograhy, non-existent sound design. Overall weak and drag out screenwriting with an extensive, long pacing.

You shouldn't watch horror. It's bad for your soul.
>>214429946You shouldn't visit /hor/. It's bad for your soul.

>>214423675I didn't mind the ending of The Last Broadcast... but it was certainly a choice. Had they played it straight, it could have been a serious contender with BWP at the time. Ceremony was bad but the ending made me laugh anyway.
>>214429635I finally quit that place and you go and post this? Anyway, thanks sexdawg, you're the man.

>>214430646Why is that surprising? They had Indonesians in the 1st film.
After seeing a video today, I don't want to watch any gory movies for a while
>>214432004A video of someone getting shot in the neck?
>>214432020Yes, from a real life horror movie
>>214431769wow, he's taking forever to shoot that guy
>>214432004It's weird how you can watch a thousand gory movies but one grainy video can make you feel ill inside. Can always put on some Scoob.
>>214432004>he didn't grow up with shit like liveleak or those shock sites from the early 2000s
>>214432004I've cried literally a dozen times today because of that videoA change is coming, man
>>214432077Well, yeah, it's the difference between real and fake.
Is this film series any good?
>>214432279Absolutely and hilarious that one actor plays 3 different characters throughout the series.
>>214432004What video?
>>214432279Honestly one of my favourite slasher series. Retarded comfort food stuff.

I've been watching some De Palma lately and wondering why pic is so widely disliked
>>214434239I think the general population has a lower tolerance for cuckoldry and incest even if they want to see a cut up movie star
I sleep. I hated P.T., I hate its retarded spawns and now, they are doing movies based on shitty 10 minutes long games.
Gonna watch Borderline, hope it's good luv ar Samara
>>214434358How is it? Sounds like sloppa but if it's just cruel and not a metaphor of trauma could be amusing
>>214434358I can see why they made it, trying to cash in on the liminal meme before that's washed away. I assume not coming to VOD for a while.
There's like 25 minutes left in this movie and NOTHING has fucking happenedThere's been like 10 cumulative seconds of completely inconsequential "lovecraftian imagery" which is just a lanky man with scoliosisWhat a piece of SHITFUCKÀAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAADO SOMETHING YOU PIECE OF GARBAGE
>>214434442I guess the real sleep experiment was the film
>>214434239It's a butchered adaptation of a relatively famous book
>>214434424It's neither cruel or a metaphore. It's exactly what the game is with an uninteresting drama about child birth to pad the movie because they wouldn't be able to last for 90 minutes. It's not creepy, it's not scary, it's just what I hate about these games, slow, repetitive, boring. This being said, solid camera work at the start and great sound design.>>214434435And it worked as it was the first video game adaptation at Cannes.Yeah, I assume you'll have to wait a bit for the VOD. I've seen it in my local theater and it didn't attract many people (we were 6).
>>214434590I hope that young dude can pull off something interesting with Backrooms. As much as people hated Skinamarink, it had the balls to not go for a traditional narrative. Hollywood execs will always be pushing "oh and we need a romance subplot" etc. but someone wandering around in a near silent for 90ms needs to be done.
Kinda bummer that Redrooms finishes as soon as it's obvious that there's a cult operating in the background and that the trial was a setup to convince a lone perpetrator and there will be no sequel
>>214434645>but someone wandering around in a near silent for 90ms needs to be done.it really doesn't
>>214434663it's not a cult it's just a bunch of rich gooners
>>214434442Stop watching shitty movies.
>>214434645>someone wandering around in a near silent for 90ms needs to be doneThat's the kind of concept that could work in a video game with a shorter lenght. 90 minutes of nothing would be a waste of time imo. I mean, In a Violent Nature already did that, kinda, with some kills inbetween the walking segments and it was a bore.
>>214434698Who drive around in vans as soon as they find out who you are
>>214434735Well not nothing, but the continued dread of being trapped in a mysterious unexplainable place. People often say BWP is just people wandering around in the woods and that's kino. Also, SCP needs a film. Maybe it's a rights issue but I don't see how that hasn't been done already.
>>214434663>>214434698>>214434743cool it with the antisemitism
giallos are fucking trash.
>>214434743I mean that's a cool idea but I'm fairly sure that's supposed to be the FBI or some other intelligence agency who has picked up on her because she's in too deep.
>>214434801I only like the Argento ones, the others I've tried have been mostly trash I agree
>>214434801It's why we love them
>>214434713It's got 90% on RT, how was I supposed to know what a horrible cloud of fart gas it is
>>214434802Well in that case they're making the videos tooSomething like this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaf7q9RKjgo
Imagine not watching the best horror movie podcast
>>21443483190% on RT5.7/10 on IMDB3.3/5 on LetterboxdI'd say Letterbox'd is more accurate for a horror fan and IMDB's is more accurate for a casual viewer.
Oh, Arrow is releasing Deadly Friend on bluray, 20 bucks. That basketball scene has been imprinted on my brain since 98 or 99.
>>214434938nah letterboxd overrates most horror slop, imdb is the overall best
>>214434897amico really looks like a fat version of gillis
>>214435038modern slop
>>214435165nta but that film feels like it's trying hard to be retro if anything. all male cast, only practical effects.not good though.
>>214435278If they wanted to be retro, they should shoot it as such. I hate modern cinematography. I hate how cinematic and sleek movies look now. It takes away from the grittiness of horror movies and what makes them scary. It looks fake as fuck. A scary movie should be grainy and look a little shitty for the realism effect.
>>214428817Number 4 is the only one I'd settle with
