I don't know, you could absolutely think of plausible reasons for sure.
I'm not "defending" the xeno lifecycle or anything, since it's clear it was mostly intended to be cool and terrifying first and foremost, pretty much a throwaway idea even.
I'm just saying that it's not too unreasonable or stupid, compared to what already exists IRL or what others have come up in other stories, etc.
Even Prometheus' idea that the xenos are simply a randomly found species that became an object of worship, because they unwittingly solved an extinction problem the Engineers were facing, is nowhere near as dumb as others I've seen or read.
