because they're no advertiser/timeslot pressure in the streaming era and they can get away with it

same reason they do 10 episodes instead of 26 -- they just don't give a rats ass
if they could do less, they would. I expect you'll start seeing 8 episode seasons becoming the norm soon.
>>
>>214448160
>the real Gorn
Do any anons take the whole Starfleet Battles take on the Gorn as the canon one? i.e. actually relatively nice guys once you get to know them, became good friends with the Feds, like to spank Romulans with tractor beams and plasma torpedoes when they misbehave?
>>
>>214448191
That's basically the canon version of them as well, they show up as friendly in later stuff

NuWho moving to 8 episode seasons was so fucking ass
You'd think with Disney throwing in money with the BBC they'd want more out of it
>>
>>214448216
Yeah nutrek turned them into discount Magog from Andromeda. Which is super imaginative much wow, yeah turn the scary looking lizard people into monsters where they originally looked like monsters but were actually quite civilized and only time were shown to be hostile was due to a colossal misunderstanding. Fucking modern writers are lazy shit hacks.
>>
A season down the drain and discount enemy mine was the best of the season. I started watching VOY and the writing quality difference is just unbelievable.
>>
>>214448395
right? Even the VOY episodes with weak story concepts are still just so much more tightly and compactly written. You might not like the story but they tell it successfully and with great efficiency. Berman Trek is firing on all cylinders at this point and is truly a machine of narrative delivery.
>>
>>214448159
TNG had little writers on payroll, if I recall.
They had what's called "open format": you could be a nobody, and submit a script and if it fits, it gets done.
It was a very good system

>>
>>214448464
That's not exactly true. They had writers on payroll and also accepted scripts from nobodies that often were reworked by their people in collaboration with the original writer (or not sometimes)
>>
>>214448464
I love how one of the concessions of the recent strike was to increase the number of writers in the so called writers room. Even though shows only make 10 episodes every two years now.

Is it a weird opinion if I think that the first half of season 7 is the most consistently good stretch of episodes across all of DS9? It doesn't have the highest highs but there's not a single outright bad episode, even the mirror universe episode is the only good one they ever did on the show.
>>
>>214448631
who?
>>
>>214448728
the first mirror was is actually good so no, however over all I too find s7 very stable, no big standout till far beyond the stars but every episode is solid

URGENT COMMUNIQUÉ FROM SHADOW PRESIDENT AND CHIEF MORALE OFFICER OF SAUDI BINLADIN GROUP, VIC "JET FUEL CAN'T MELT CHARLIE KIRK'S NECK" MIGNOGNA:
TS/NOFORN: Alhamdillulah to all my brothers and their property on this joyous anniversary! On this auspicious day we continue the Great TNG watch along on Heroes and Icons with the conclusion of Encounter at Farpoint at 9PM ET/8PM CT. We then continue with the Great DS9 watch along with Armageddon Game (Mashallah, we love armageddons!). Please note that the 6PM ET episode "Sub Rosa" is NCIS and not TNG. However, the episode is about
>A decomposed body is discovered in a tub of acid at a naval base and Ducky and Abby learn that the victim was a submariner.
Which is preferable to Beverly fucking the ghost of Zorro. Watch at your own discretion.
As always, beware the interloper. With the season conclusion of Strange New Worlds and the autumn chill making it harder for him to stalk women in public parks, he will have more spare time to interlope. Have no fear and trust in The Plan. The Anbo-Jyutsu Fat Riker Prone 'Bone SPECOPS hit squad has triangulated his position and will deploy our Halal Jazz offensive, codenamed RAGHEAD RAGTIME. Soon we can emerge from the shadows and The Plan will be complete.
As always, Trust in The Plan, Death to the Opposition, Glory to Heroes and Icons, and The Cardassian Neck Trick is best done from 200 yards with a slight westerly wind. Mignogna out.

>>214449109
S6 is where the writers gave up on trying to make the emissary plotline good or even have a point, which directly leads into giving Dukat superpowers and making him boring. Speaking of, it's actually amazing how good the first half of season 7 is despite featuring almost no Dukat at all.

I'm gonna go ahead and say none of the potato beverages except coffee and maybe the shake. based on my understanding of the replicator it needs stuff programmed into it and potato juice is just not something anyone would have programmed into it as a beverage. if it did have juice programmed it could probably concoct the soda and tea.
>>
>>214454123
You would think the computer would be smart enough that if you asked for the juice of a veggie of some kind that it would either give you a smoothie or ask for clarification. If it knows how to make a raw potato it knows how to make potato juice
>>
>>214454147
you WOULD think that but I dunno I've never seen anyone use it that way so I can't be sure. if you ask for "juice from a potato" and "potato juice beverage" would it treat those as different? the way I'm imagining it works it would be able to give you the former but maybe be confused about the latter.

For me personally it was how the fuck was the archeologist fine? In the earlier episode they make a point about how the evil critter could convincingly drive a meat puppet, then in this episode they show the archeologist showing up at the evil temple with the evil entity that goes DOH HOH HOH HOH I GOT YOU NOW and then it just makes some random shitheads on the planet gouge their eyes out and leaves him alone and unmolested in the temple. Presumably it couldn't stick another critter in him since the door was closed but he just sat around in the temple drinking wine the whole time? Why the fuck was he even in the episode? They could've just said he heard something from another archeologist and passed it on to Chapel since he thought they should know about it

TOS took a few episodes to click for me, I think Corbomite was the first or second episode I watched, perhaps I'd like it more on a revisit, now that I've gotten used to the rhythm of the series.

I don't know what the general consensus is, but I was most attracted to the episodes that felt very '60s sci-fi' (City on the Edge of Forever, Taste of Armageddon), they scratch a certain Philip K Dick-esque itch for me.

>>
>>214458974
For whatever reason, Piller and Berman just made a hard call to make Voyager TNG-lite because ratings were kind of spiraling in Trek as a whole since TNG, I guess. It was a panic move.

It definitely gutted Chakotay's character but everyone else survived it well enough. Tuvok would've been more interesting being an object of hate for some of the Maquis due to spying on them. They could've done a lot, Ronald D. Moore is not wrong about that and I can understand why there was division in the writer's room.

>what is predestination paradox

Also did you just not watch Picard or something? It takes place in 2399, which is around 20~ years after Picard went into self imposed exile over the failure of the mission to help the Romulans, caused by the events that those ending scenes of Prodigy crossed over with.
>>
>>214462435
Fuck you, the Prodigy plot did NOT make sense.

And also thank you, I have Picard next up on my timeline watchalong. Had no idea that Picard was in exile for 20 years. That explains that timeline issue then. Still kinda weird like how old was Beverly when she gave birth to that kid from season 3?
Prodigy did mention the "Romulan evacuation" a few times in context with Admiral Picard. I just assumed that the events of Picard took place immediately after the attack on Mars by the Synths. Good to know there's a time gap there. Not that that show isn't going to be hot garbage to sit through.
>>
>>214462480
The attack on Mars took place in a short called "Children of Mars". In the show proper, it's just back story.

The show is a really weird series of experiments mixed with normal episodes

>The freaky friday episode of T'Pring and Spock
>Enterprise becoming a fantasy novel episode
>The Lower Decks crossover episode
>Entire episode which is set as a musical
>1960's Trek / Holodeck murder mystery episode

Worf is literally a retarded LARPer. He cares about honor more than any other klingon, to the detriment of his family. Other klingons undertand the need for pragmatism and face, whereas Worf is happy to throw out all his standing just to LARP as the most honor-iest klingon. Dude had the oppotunity to be High Chancellor and rejected it. What kind of reject ass klingon does that?
>>
>>214465885
What false information? SNW was presumably close to the top 10, given that it was #9 the week before, and #10 the following week. Oldtrek has most definitely been dumped into the "broadcast TV" graveyard. Broadcast TV is a dinosaur, watched only by poorfags and boomers. Refute any of that if you can.
>>
>>214465402

>>
>>214465954
Worf's character makes sense if you imagine him as a black kid raised in an upper middle class white neighborhood, who desperately wants to reclaim his blackness as an adult. Think of a black student on an elite college campus dressed head to toe in African garb.

>Broadcast TV is a dinosaur, watched only by poorfags and boomers. Refute any of that if you can.
Data was right about broadcast TV having a relatively short lifespan. But at this rate it won't even make it into the 22nd century.
And the commercials are a whole new kind of depressing. In addition to the swath of prescription drug ads with deadly side effects, there's a new trend of Gen X actors reprising their roles from 20-30 year old shows to sell product.

Agents, we are on fire today! We are now officially in Season 1 of the Great TNG watchalong with The Naked Now at 9PM EDT/8PM CDT. Follow your prescribed instructions as part of The Plan.
The interloper has been increasingly agitated as the manhunt continues. Be sure to keep your eyes sharp for long distance sniping and your joints limber for rooftop parkour with Tony Hawk's GenX Brand Turmeric. It's, Like, Whatever, Dude©®.
