Which /film/ will never be truly understood by a female? Befriending your bull, such special relationship cannot be comprehended at all by the fair sex.

The greatest film of the last 100 years in my opinion is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. This should have the reputation that Citizen Kane does, and even came out two years before it.

The rest of the list:

Battleship Potemkin

Shadows

Breathless

Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla

Jaws

E.T., the Extra Terrestrial

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Star Wars

Tron

Fitzcarraldo

Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Toy Story

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones

The Polar Express

Inland Empire

I am probably the only actual film historian on /film/ (I have done several audio commentaries including on early Gaumont releases). The live action canon gravely underrates the history of animation and believes it to be a subset of cinema, hence, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs lack of presence on Sight & Sound.

You would be gravely mistaken if you believe animation is for babies. Even a film like Who Frames Roger Rabbit (this would land in my top 25) is more important than films like Citizen Kane and The Godfather. Then there is Vertigo and 2001, films that are only important due to the John Whitney and Douglas Trumbull special effects, but then even Silent Running is more important in that regard.

Sometimes I wonder how Eisenstein would have reacted if he lived to see films like Tron or Nintendo Entertainment System videogames like Metroid, Boy and His Blob and Myst, which present a simulation with free will.

>>214720654
If it's not Snow White, then what can it possibly be? Snow White does so many things at once.

>invents a new artform and perfects it at the same time
>mass entertainment and commercial success
>critically acclaimed

>>214720201
I am convinced that George Lucas browses /film/ with all of the little homages to classic golden age cinema in Star Wars Attack of the Clones. It is a film noir melodrama of the likes that used to star Humphrey Bogart. George Lucas is genuinely too intelligent for the masses.

If you don't watch Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with your jaw on the floor you are a platfag who doesn't understand its significance. There were so many detailed techniques in that movie that even now 50 years later animators are baffled by its quality.

Hook is an incredible feat of filmmaking. After that and Empire of the Sun he became a fucking company. His MO changed to doing them as quickly as possible, in part because he knew that a rushed Spielberg film was no worse.

I am parodying letterboxd users how they watch a film, think up of a one line meme and then run to letterboxd to euphorically post the meme and get 1000s of votes. And yes, they do post on /film/. Several youtube celebrities get their ideas on /film/ and post it on youtube and letterboxd for clout. I have seen it over and over again, and they should be mocked for how they dumbed down the artistic medium of cinema into a social media fad.

I started noticing it during the Deadpool and Wolverine review period, people were directly quoting /tv/ threads that were made ironically but they were taking it as a fact and spreading it on letterboxd as if they came up with it. After that, YouTubers like Jahns and Stuckmann started picking it up and even Kermode mentioned it. All of it originated on /tv/. This happens on /film/ too with the Ethan Cohen Criterion channel as well. You will see a film discussed here and then Ethan Cohen will post a video about the exact same film.

Prepare for the canon as we know it to change now that we are past the 20th century, all your Citizen Kane, Vertigo, and 2001 will morph into Tron, Star Wars, Blade Runner, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Wizard of Oz, and Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

Now that we have hindsight, we know that the history of special effects is the history of cinema.

The critics of the 20th century made a fatal mistake. They came to believe that cinema is akin to the European painting tradition, they expected cinema to be full of esoteric meaning and cultural importance. The truth is that a special effects extravaganza like Twister is more historically important than The Godfather.

Yes, even Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin movies are high art compared to a pretentious Orson Welles Shakespeare adaptation.
>>
>>214727521
We don't call a film playing with an audio commentary its own film. We consider film separate. Hmm... what is that. Shouldn't a visual film playing with a commentary soundtrack be an entire different film? Yet it is considered the same movie. Curious. Could it be that is because visuals and special effects constitute the definition of a film, not the writing of it?

so I got this never before ripped edition that came with 3 audio tracks. I've been quiet lately because I'm re-writing the entire subtitle. But worse than that... there are black frames connecting the film together and they are i-frames and I'm having trouble merging the files without obstruction and I'm about to pull my hair out. I'm starting from ground zero now after 1 day wasted trying to fiddle with trimming the vob file (nigger fucking black frame is the i-frame that cucks me if you don't trim on an i-frame there a frame freeze/delay) fuck b frames fuck niggers

That's a fairly small sized amount of films to watch in a year, I'd say. Part of why movies are easy to watch is because you can do other things. I wouldn't want to watch one film a day, but it would be fairly easy to do so.

I think it's his worst film by far.
I dislike the magical realism angle and also think the pacing is incredibly slow when compared to his other spliffs. For me it's a 2.5/5, but I think it's still a good film, just not for me.
>>
>>214757771
>Do critics just repeat films that they think they're supposed to like
Yes; they are afraid of being criticized for voicing their true opinions and questioning the canon. Same reason why shit like Man With a Movie Camera gets glazed for no reason when it's literally only a tech demo.

>>214757941
I think they watch them then force themselves to pretend they're good because they're "important works of art". Like, surrealism was a very important vanguard movement within art, yet Dalí's works were mostly mediocre in a lot of ways, but still, the general public won't criticize his work because they don't have the technical knowledge available to really dissect why he sucks and, -most importantly-, how he sucks. In the end, I believe his paintings sell for manipulation of the market via speculation and money laundering, and something similar occurs in kino, with big stablished names being the backbones supporting the big film critics, the scholars and even the film publishing market in a lot of occasions. If you criticize Man With a Movie Camera you're essentially criticizing everyone that ever said something good about that film for dishonest purposes, and so there is a market for building artificial hype over mid kino, mid music, and mid art. We live in a world of fakes.
As a novelty, take a look at pic rel, a Dalí engraving from his later era. Essentially, this kind of shit explains his whole career: mediocre technique, bland ass colors and his trademark overuse of the one point perspective. Check more of his paintings / drawings and you will find he was extremely repetitive and basic in all of his motives and his technical abilities were very limited. His promotion by General Franco is a testament to what he was: a state puppet, a fake "painter", and a very gifted PR man with nothing to say in his works. A lot of times, the same happens in kino; it's not about what you do, but who you know and which dicks you suck.
I have to say though, he was an excellent writer.
