Pros!
> Doig is a decently good lead.
> Jason's main design is good aside from hair & the odd nose on the mask.
> Jason's cyborg design is fairly good but not great.
> Opening with him killing the swat team & getting frozen was all solid.
> Frozen head death was iconic.
> Scenes of him stalking & killing the future marines was solid.
> KM taking down Jason is fun.
> Interior sets for the ships are TV movie like but fine.

Cons!
> Too light in tone & meta. I would have given it a Alien, Event Horizon, Pandorum level of seriousness.
> Jason's Cyborg design could have been a bit more gruesome & sinister like the concept art.
> The cinematography is kinda flat & TV movie like.
> No great deaths once Jason goes Cyborg, the sleeping bag kills was fun but eh.
> Cutting away from the 1 chick getting sucked through the hole in the hull.
> Not showing a more serious final duel between Cyborg Jason & the last Marine.

I've just been putting every book and comic I could find in one place for convenience, though I've admittedly gotten lazy and haven't really been looking/adding anything in a long while, especially comics (there's a bunch, like Hatchet and My Bloody Valentine, that have been put out by American Mythology lately).

I get that perspective, that's fine. But it's real borderline, the type of movie one person could think not horror and another could think it's horror and I think they could both be right. Anyway it's not a film that's even discussed often, seems silly to have it on the banned list. Just my $0.02.

I have the Blu-ray, I've seen it. I am just bringing up the fact that several prominent movie databases do actually categorize it as a horror film. You didn't really answer my question how it's not horror. Do you have an objective definition of what if and isn't horror? I'd like to see it. I'm not trolling or trying to provoke, I'm just asking how it's not horror?
>>
>>214834479
thats not the tense part you fucking dunce. how are you in a thread about horror films and you cant psych yourself into pretending a film is real? if you cant imagine two college kids with a third whos effectively a stranger getting lost in the woods with spooky shit happening to them either youve never been scared while camping or you are autistic in a medical sense. im not saying you have to find it scary. but it sure as hell is tense.

Shawscope is a line of collectors' edition blu-ray box sets that Arrow Video has released of Shaw Brothers produced films. Volumes 1-3 focused on general kung fu and wuxia, some oddball picks, and some horror, but mostly essential and highly regarded movies from the studio. Also lots of special features with background info, essays, etc

With Volume 4, they're going heavy on the horror movies that Shaw Brothers produced. One of the biggest hits of their volume 2 set was The Boxer's Omen, and this set looks to be a bunch more like it.

Whether you buy it or not, it at least means that these movies are getting a nice quality release and subs/dubs, and they will likely be made available on Arrow's streaming service as well

The pamphlets and art are great, though. I just stack them. They come with 12, 14, and now this one has 16 movies, so it doesn't feel like they take up too much space for how many movies they include.

im not being edgy, im enjoying the film and having fun, as the genre intends it to me. people who act like slashers are supposed to always be scary are the fucking problem with horror these days. not every horror flick needs to be frightening.

>As the film was being finished up, producer Roger Corman felt that the picture needed more sex, nudity and monster shots throughout, so he ordered scenes shot that showed the humanoids attacking and ripping the clothes off of other nubile young women. Director Barbara Peeters, who was a feminist who hated that idea, refused to shoot the scenes. Corman said he'd hire a second director and get her feedback before using the new footage. She agreed to that. But Corman ended up never showing the new footage to her or the cast and other crew. They didn't see them until the preview of the film. Peeters was furious, protesting that they were inserted purely to show gratuitous nudity. Corman also edited out many of the scenes dealing with the plot and character development in order to make room for the nudity and more creature scenes. Peeters complained that it was no longer the film she made and wanted her name taken off. Corman said he'd do that but only if she paid the expense of redoing the credits. She wouldn't, so her name stayed on the project.

It's funny that the poster featured a clown, because if he had gone with that clown as the villain instead I feel like it would have been a classic everyone references like Halloween.

Imo I don't think it was exactly an exploitation film because pre-Romero zombies were Haitian voodoo lames. He basically invented the modern idea of zombies in that movie rather than exploiting a current trend or taboo topic or whatever. Could be wrong though I'm wrong all the time about stuff.

Damn really? You'd think Lionsgate horrorslop would play everywhere. It's better than Chapter 1, which isn't saying much. It wasn't necessarily a good movie at all, but I appreciate that it didn't try to be anything but a cheap and cheesy horror film.

> pre-Romero zombies were Haitian voodoo lames. He basically invented the modern idea of zombies in that movie
Nope, he continued the 50s trend of sci-fi undead zombies that was well underway.
Night of the Living Dead is very much in the vein of The Last Man on Earth and The Earth Dies Screaming, and Day of the Dead borrows a lot from Invisible Invaders, about scientists in a bunker trying to figure out how to deal with a zombie apocalypse.

His zombies weren't original, he just made his movie at the right time and had the right kind of atmosphere and gore to catch on with audiences

>Not sure why it gets called horror, honestly.
Because you don't understand what psychological horror is about, a common theme for /hor/ schizos it would seem.
>>214834282
Because it doesn't fit his personal idea of what the genre should be about even though he's unable to properly articulate his views and why Henry doesn't qualify, he just expects you to accept that he's right no explanation necessary. All you need to know is that Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, The Silence of the Lambs and The Blair Witch Project were all rightfully called horror movies and rated very highly when they originally released by someone who did understand that particular SUBgenre.

>>
>>214838375
How the fuck was it worse than the 2010 Wolf Man?
>>
>>214838782
I am not sure but I think structurally it’s closer to a crime drama or true-crime inspired character study.
The film follows Henry and Otis through murders, petty crime, and their day-to-day life. It’s grounded in realism, borrowing from the true story of Henry Lee Lucas.
And dude, this movie is not horror in the traditional sense and that’s not even everything. There are no supernatural elements, no suspense in the classic horror sense, and no “monster” beyond Henry himself.
Why do npcs call it horror? Because simply because of a label?
Smart people describe it as a true-crime inspired drama or psychological crime film.
>>
>>214838782
I am an oldfag so let me tell you what is up.
I remember when Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel called it artful and disturbing, not a horror movie but a “cold, detached portrait” of violence.
Distributors leaned heavily into the horror angle because it was easier to sell to genre fans. Posters, VHS covers, and trailers often made it look like a slasher.

This marketing choice must have reinforced its “horror cult classic” reputation and tricked a bunch of retards on /hor/, even though the film’s DNA is crime cinema
>>
>>214838782
Henry is a crime drama with horror effect, not a horror film in the genre sense you dumbass. Stop talking about this film. We have agreed to ban it. It horrifies, but so do Silence of the Lambs and Zodiac and no one calls those horror.
