Alright here's my rant at another fucking VHS that could be so easily better
>Diet Phantasma wraparound
Why did this go nowhere?? Did nobody think to add, idk, a twist or a ending of any kind? It was just the same thing repeated. It was entertaining but god damn it's the wrap around people at least TRY TO MAKE IT COUNT.
>Coochie Coochie Coo
Ehh it was ok. I could tell it was written by a woman. Good setup but bit of a dead end literally and figuratively.
>Ut Supra Sic Infra
Excellent setup idea (retracing the steps but not showing what happened the first time). Then in typical VHS style they completely fucked up by just... doing the same thing again at the end as you expect from what you saw at the start? Come on man, give me something cooler than dirty hands.
>Fun Size
Like if you asked a 14 year old to retell you a creepypasta they heard from another kid on Roblox. force meme, though I liked the initial setup.
>Kidprint
This was decent. Wasn't believable that they'd just kill the guy though.
>Home Haunt
Finally a good one!! The father/son battle served no purpose though.

Brad Miska if you are reading this, do a V/H/S: 4chan and we'll finally make a good one.
>>
>>215011604

Paste this in your mpv config. Removes the deaf shit from subtitles (not pgs because thats not possible) and PROPERLY DOWNMIXES 5.1 and 7.1 audio. Which i guess most people here are watching movies with headphones. And mpvs default downmixing to stereo audio from 5.1 and 7.1 sucks causing low audio in background music etc. I mean theres a massive diffference in 2 channels (headphones) to 5+ channels.

I just finished VHS. I'm usually defending these movies but this was dogshit

You could just cut this movie in half and make it one hour instead of two. Literally zero reason for the main plot which should keep you interested in between segments. Most of the segments felt incomplete starting with a good idea and shitting the bed later. The last 2 segments were the most interesting ones and the coochie coochie one was half decent. Overall I'm happy we got some new stories but pretty disappointed

Complete the currently last movie in The Blackwell Ghost series. There's a 9th coming out eventually. I also watched V/H/S.

>The Blackwell Ghost 7 & 8
I have 2 main complaints that seem to be directly linked. Both movies now break FF, and he goes for a cinematic look to certain scenes. It all feels out of place given the previous 6 movies were just FF movies with little production value. Other than that, the series has switched from a paranormal investigation series to a true crime investigation one. There's still paranormal shit happening, but its focus is on a serial killer now. I still find it interesting and enjoy the ongoing mystery.
>V/H/S
I thought it was pretty solid and enjoyed the various shorts. Some were worse than others, but I never thought any were bad or brought down the movie. Now that I saw this one, I have to continue and watch the rest of the series.

ok, overall pretty good for vhs standards
>the wraparound "diet phantasma"
was fun. had that genuine shot-on-video feel to it, even had that little line running across the bottom of the screen
hammy and fun performances. simple and easy to follow story, though it lacked a through line that could've connected it with the different segments beyond just the overarching theme
>first segment "coochie coochie coo"
pretty good gross-out horror segment, saw that note saying she killed herself to be free so i half expected one of them to just do it or something, kinda disappointed that they didn't go there
cared, in one way or the other, for the victims which is pretty rare for these shorts
>second segment "Ut Supra Sic Infra"
think i liked this one the most, some nice yet simple effects, people floating up to the ceiling and all that. it kept it ambiguous enough, but don't think it would work as a longer film unless maybe they do it like an "as above so below"lol film
>third segment "Fun Size"
reddit cringe backrooms horror. too short and too nonsensical.
one of the worst i've seen imo
>fourth segment "Kidprint"
kinda works, kinda don't. was like a leatherface segment with child torture that's displayed in lots of quick cuts
it was a-ok
>fifth segment "Home Haunt"
now this is one that really could work as feature length. way too short, but you get it, it's a haunted halloween themed maze. for feature length it could probably drag each section of it out and have the characters split up and get into all sorts of shenanigans.
pretty nice segment i'd say
overall it's probably one of the best vhs films in a very long while

The Well (2023) – A strong Worth a Watch, this low-budget Italian horror drips with classic splatter atmosphere without really trying to force it; it brings to mind not only the 1970s/1980s Italian classics, but the even *older* pulp fiction of the American tradition. The beautifully big-nosed Lauren LaVera from the Terrifier series plays an art restorer, sent to a rural Italian village to clean the soot from a fire-blackened CURSED PAINTING.

Magnifying the Hugh B. Cave vibes, we have a sacrificial torture chamber staffed by a shuffling, croaking, psychopathic retard, a flesh-eating monster of mystic origin (served by the retard), and a witch played by *real-life deformed model* Melanie Gaynor, wearing no prosthetics of note. A good flick with points of interest, but the atmosphere is not quite thick enough, and the continuity not quite tight enough, for Excellent. (How does a crossbow lift one woman seven feet up and pin her to a door, but sticks the next bolt lightly in another’s stomach? Also the mechanics of the curse, the interaction of the painting and monster for instance, are not clear.)

God I love Demons . . . and Demons 2! So we've kind of got the American Demon Wind, which is goofy and fun. Anything else like Demons? Sort of the monster crisis, but with incredible colors and a little meta?

I really liked in Demons 2 how we had the documentary that was almost FICTIONAL in the world of the sequel.
>>
>>215016833
>Anything else like Demons? Sort of the monster crisis, but with incredible colors and a little meta?
Luigi Cozzi's Black Cat, which was at some point supposed to be Suspiria 3, but Cozzi said only Argento can make that and turned it into something else. It's a very meta fever dream.

Everyone always talks about Brigette Lahaie and don't get me wrong, I love her and she's a smokeshow, but when I think Jean Rollin I honestly think of Castel as "his girl". Mireille D'Argent has some great facial expressions in this movie and pairs well with Castel.

Does anybody here know Evil Sword? It's the only spooky/halloween band i listen to, they're quite unique, the core of it is just a bassist and a lady who sings and plays percussion and tin whistle, but sometimes they have other people contributing. The official series ends with Amityville Dollhouse (1996). Apart from the official remake 2005 and the official Blumhouse meta reboot Amityville: The Awakening, none of the other "Amityville" movies have anything to do with the main series. They are just cash-ins for name recognition, and have become a cheap joke among the amateur filmmakers.

Without Name (2016) – This Irish “eco horror” is Worth a single Watch perhaps, though it can be duller than a movie ever should be . . . but I’ll say it’s not *without* merit. Eric the surveyor is sent to measure a track of *vaguely* haunted woods for a big company that has plans to develop it; they choose him because of his “discretion.” He wanders around the entire film with this horrible, hangdog expression, grumbling and looking at everything like it just makes him want to hang himself. How did he get a family? How did he get that beautiful young sidepiece, who helps him with the *hush* *hush* surveying work? Not much happens, but the woods are very beautiful and peaceful, and there are some cool, shifting effects with perspective and maybe filters, which make the woods look labyrinthine. The most interesting character is the bubbly nature-stoner Gus, who lives in a caravan at the edge of the haunted woods. Don’t watch unless you’re cold-up and full of jump, or you’re looking for a sleep aid -- as it was, I started to nod at 3:00 pm on a Saturday. Too slow, molasses slow. Not enough supernatural happenings. A dismal main character. A fuzzy ending that you *kind* of get, but leaves you mostly unsatisfied. I mean, how do the characters even FEEL about what’s happened?

Mostly I'm posting THIS REVIEW because I want a suggestion. I need something bright and ELECTRIC for tonight's film that is not a fuggin' moldy old slasher.

>>
>>215020282
I mean just what I said. Grimdark is fine, it just can't be a slow-burn film, or some musty generic slasher like The Mutilator or something, or something hellaciously plodding like Walkin' Johnny AKA In a Violent Nature.

Oh hell, go watch Hotel Inferno tonight! Those are just insane. The series is like a live action video game with tons of rubber props touched up with CGI and tons of fake blood in which a Brooklyn-sounding hitman goes into an EVIL MOTEL and descends, throughout the series, into the depths of HELL.

Hotel Inferno!

I like women, especially beautiful ones
if they have a good face and figure, I would much prefer to watch them being murdered than an ugly girl or man

Consider therapy.
>>
>>215020505
Precisely. It's too bad that Hollywood only hires goblins to stand in front of tbe cameras nowadays
>>
>>215020576
The manliness and testosterone levels of this general just went up a lot.

Hollywood loves to de-masculinize everything.
They turned Kratos into a cuck.
Also, the game studios were full of dei hires by the time the new games were made.

I guess you autistic zoomers didn't go to the pool when you were younger? Just stayed inside and play video games? You used to have to pass a swimming test to go to the deeper end to hang with the cool kids.

Watching hot women get arrested for DUI tickles the same thing in my brain that watching hot women die in horror movies does

Edgar Allen Poe said, "The death of a beautiful woman is, unquestionably, the most poetical topic in the world."

I mean, I don't THINK he quite meant getting bisected through the vagina by a supernatural mime with a hacksaw, but pretty much the same thing, right?

This is what too much Andrew Tate does to your brain.

Noroi was good, i was sooo tired last night that i had to go to bed before finishing it, so the tone awas lost on me but the pacing made me lose steam anyway.

the green room is pretty exciting. its like a reverse home invasion movie, people get stuck in a place they are not welcome. might qualify as a slasher tho.

Just grabbed the UHD-remux hybrid, so now I have Wes Craven's New Nightmare with DV & HDR10+.
