I can't really disagree with BWP haters because they at least hate it for what it is. I would like to do some kind of brain scan on people and plot the difference though.
BWP to me is basically the logically conclusion of "what you don't see is more scary than what you do".

you'd have better experience if you were watching that movie at your local theater when the movie came out. thanks to blair witch project a new genre was born out from that movie with important impact to all today's movies and the genre is called "found footage". 2nd and 3rd movies for recommendation, that is, if you already didn't see those 2 films are those ones...

My review of VHS Halloween is the same as it's been for years now
Why the FUCK do I keep watching these movies? There's only like one or two decent segments at best, but it's all so fucking lame, only good ones were the first two movies where you had actual creative filmmakers doing interesting things, now it's all so retarded and bad, most segments are boring and uninspired or they're gore filled comedy skits, in particular with this one, that dick candy segment felt like the movie was making fun of me

It's frustrating because you have so much potential with this franchise, especially if you lean into the main VHS idea

movies/TV are just gayer than ever now and have been since the mid 2010s, it's rampant. that was actually pretty tame compared to some of the other shit that's being put out.

part of it too is to attempt to get people talking and generate interest on social media, as people in the previous thread pointed out the 'antagonist' candyman in that short was essentially a mascot baiting fan art and reddit memes, etc.

outside of the horror i loved how filthy it was that the cold starkness of felt dirty and grimy, reminded me alot of Get Carter with how they did the setting too and how they managed to get across the smoggy cold rainy shithole Europe could be and neither films felt like they were shot on stages and used very natural looking lighting

Rampage (2009) is worth a watch.

>>215033950
All the grimey 70s/80s films shot in NYC are similar, the setting really makes them.
>>
>>215033929
i like it better when they use longarms rather than handguns, it just looks better seeing a big wooden military rifle or sporting shotgun with a deep impactful sound being used
ones that comes to mind obviously is the Evil Dead trilogy, the single barrel looks more desperate in the first movie than the double barrel in subsequent movies. Tremors 1990 with the Elephant Gun, the opening home invasion scene in Martyrs 2008, The House that Jack Built was groovy, Hobo with a Shotgun
>>
>>215032480
More like twat pile
>>
Him was good but the ending and a few details they could have took two seconds to explain or explore knocked it down to average. There were some pieces of dialogue I didn't care for, mostly the gay or sex jokes. I feel like people didn't like this movie because movie nerds are unlikely to watch or like sports, and maybe they don't even like men or understand masculinity. If this was released before our current form of flash in the pan media consumption this would be a cult classic.
>>
I just put Poltergeist 3 and I immediately already like it more than the first one.
>>
>>215034161
Yeah, that makes sense. Poltergeist III jumps into its weirdness much faster than the original.
The first film takes its sweet ass time like it starts like a normal suburban white family story, with hints of something off before the supernatural ramps up. Very Spielberg-like in pacing with that slow build then big payoff.
The third film doesn’t even bother with much buildup. Carol Anne is already chased by the spirits, and the Chicago high rise setting gives it a cold, eerie mood from the start. Those mirror tricks and sudden appearances create tension right away.
I think lot of people find III less polished but more relentlessly creepy because of those mirrors and distorted reflections.
>>
>>215033929

Romero always said he cast Jones simply because he was the best actor who auditioned, not to make a “statement.” But the timing 1968, the year of Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination and intense civil rights struggles—gave the movie an unavoidable political edge.
Ben’s authority, intelligence, and leadership in the film ran directly against Hollywood stereotypes of Black characters at the time.

You're just spouting 4chanism, all of the women in this movie are minor characters, that was one of the unexplained detail, the wife of Isaiah and her role. I had to read some discussions about the early script to understand Their relationship was supposed to be a reference to Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen again explaining what she and Isaiah would have taken like ten seconds worth of dialogue.

>Interesting. Got slammed in reviews.
I think people wanted some type of twist because of Peele's name being attached to the movie. With modern horror, and causal audience, that seems to be the thing that elevates opinions it makes witnessing all of the gore and scares and unpleasantness worth it if there's some type of mystery resolved or pay back, rather than it just being people genuinely sucking.

Continued my watch of all V/H/S movies and added in another movie to fill the time slot.

>V/H/S/2
Wouldn't say this was great, and liked the 1st over it. Just nothing really stood out to me. I'd put the Ayy segment with the kids as the one I liked the most.
>V/H/S Viral
Now, this is what I call shit. How did the series fall off that fast? Half the movie breaks FF or doesn't even attempt to be it. This also has the most camera glitches I've ever seen in a FF movie. At times, it seemed like there was one every 10 seconds or so. Never watching this piece of shit again.
>The Phoenix Incident
This movie checks so many boxes that I like. Aliens? Check. FF? Check. Action? Check. Government conspiracy/cover-up? Check. Crazy doomsayer? Check. The only bad part was the CGI, but I don't care. For me, this was certified FF kino. Because it's about the Phoenix Lights, you can pair it with the other 2 FF movies about the same incident.

Watched The Black Cat. Each moment with Boris Karloff or Bela Lugosi are great, with some eeire moments. Not so much with the rest. 7/10
>>
>>215036864
Watched this last month. Feels like an instance where a modern remake could actually improve the quality of the story if done right.
>>
>>215036751
Neither, watch Dark Nuns (2025) from Worst Korea.
>>
>>215036779
I gave it 6 minutes and gave up. The native englishspeakers in the movie are bad actors and the non-native speakers are bad actors and can barely pronounce english comprehensively.
>>
>>215036976
The story is the weakest part, agree, also being barely more than 70 minutes doesn't help either. Still you can't have the power force of a couple as Karloff and Lugosi back in the day to make the film nowdays. It's over.

>While working on this film, director Edgar G. Ulmer began an affair with Shirley Castle, who would eventually become his wife, known as Shirley Ulmer. At the time, however, Castle was married to Max Alexander, a producer at Universal Pictures and a nephew of powerful Universal chief Carl Laemmle, who did not look kindly on "outsiders" upsetting his family. Castle left her husband for Ulmer, and the ensuing scandal resulted in Ulmer being blackballed from all of the major Hollywood studios for the rest of his career. After a short period of directing micro-budgeted independent films, Ulmer went to work for the low-budget studio Producers Releasing Corp. (PRC), where he stayed for most of the rest of his career.
As over as for Edgar G. Ulmer's career.

I felt the same way, it's disappointing considering how much I liked the Dahmer show. Speaking of which, I remember that they teased a John Wayne Gacy season at the end of it, but it never came to fruition. Maybe it's because, unlike Dahmer or Ed Gein, Gacy was more of a sadistic psychopath instead of a schizo, and they thought it would be too distasteful to make a show from his POV.

Mine:
Spree (liked this one too, even though it went a bit woke in the end)
Good Neigbor (less horror and more drama than I expected but had James Caan in it, so good movie, but wouldn't recommend to horror fans)
John And The Hole (very artsy fartsy, kinda pointless, watched this for Michael C Hall)
John Dies At The End (not related to above, but fun movie with funny monsters and time travel mind fucks, cool)
Teeth (also less horror than expected, but sure it's funny idea that girl bites cocks off with her pussy, she fucks her brother in the end and then feeds his cock to a dog lol)
Cat In The Brain (it's a Fulci movie, and quite meta one where he plays fictionalized version of himself manipulated by his psychiatrist to become a serial killer. Sounds exciting, but it's one of his worse movies. Only watch this if you are running out of giallos to watch)
Jessabelle (blumhouse slop, which started out as interesting but then went into the cliched creepy voodoo niggas route)
Porno (good stupid fun horror comedy)
>>
>>215033696
Horror is definitely one of them. The scenes were Zodiac goes around murdering are pure slasher horror. But you are right that I wouldn't categorize it as a horror movie. More of a psychological thriller. Great movie though.

Help me out. I saw a movie on the telly decades ago but cannot remember what it is.
All I recall is a woman giving birth to a baby, the child is bloody like the worm baby from the Fly and has a tail.
Then it cuts to a woman in a bedroom, and a man walks into frame, through an open door from a hallway. The adult man looks like he has no skin, just muscle tissue and asks the woman a question.
What movie did I watch? It was maybe 1999 or so when I saw it on the telly.
