Pam Voorhees isn't that believable as a killer especially after the final part where she can't overpower a fellow woman very easily.

Its fine, the social commentary on cult-like behavior and mingling with others not of your own is a cool exploration, otherwise it really just feels like a time period piece with a horror movie on top. Respectable but nothing amazing.

>>215184145
I wouldn’t say the exact same. The vampires being a “twist” and a central fortified location are the big points of comparison, but the tonal shift is less jarring and the vampires are way different.

>>215185208
The problem is 80% of the movie is explicit racial pandering that falls completely flat to anyone who isn't a militant black separatist, and the other 20% isn't that good to make up for it. The horror stuff is nothing new, it's just tropes and cliches. The novelty comes from the blunt "we black and ya'll be isn't" message, which won't resonate with most people outside of resentful American blacks

The story revolves around the main characters trying to establish a juke joint that's blacks-only aside from their Chinese servants, with an explicitly anti-assimilation theme where the characters value the unique quality of their blackness over being absorbed into a broader American identity, fighting against it tooth and nail. How else would you label that?

>Lake Mungo (2008)
australians can make a good movie it seems! this mockumentary horror about the death of a girl and the community as they come to terms with it works like a horror, when it might actually just be a tragedy. Lake mungo wants to talk about grief but its also essentially about shame and its relationship to suicide. Here's a personal story:

One fall evening, i was feeling quite lonely and had no one to celebrate with. I decided i would go to a club and have a few drinks and dance and maybe make a friend. i got dressed then i got on my bike and as i was riding out of the neighborhood i saw a man in the front yard of one of our neighbors. I was only staying here briefly, living with my mom in between jobs for a bit, so i only knew a little about this guy. He lived with his mom because she had terminal brain cancer. I saw him, talked to him for a bit, told him to have a good night, and left. The next day, i found out that i was the last to see him alive and he killed himself less than an hour later. I had no idea he was suicidal.

This film is about that ignorance, and the feelings that finding out cause. "Alice kept secrets, she kept that she kept secrets a secret." The psychic functions as a therapist, and her inappropriate relationship with the neighbors are a source of shame. Time plays an important part, with characters experiencing the past and the future as ghostly apparitions and nightmares. And during the end credits, we are shown images where Alice's ghost appears that we missed all along We had no idea we were supposed to keep an eye out, and the characters were seeing the signs of Alices impending suicide and had no idea they were supposed to keep an eye out. and yet, they construct some story, fabricate some lie, some justification, in order to make it all make sense. They live in denial and dig through her life, turning every stone until they witness her shame. Then, bearing witness, they engage in the shame.

My media server is pretty vast. I just browse it, hit randomize, make playlists, follow rabbit holes of recommended similar films or actor/director filmographies on there. i was much more specific than that, anon. Its about the relationship between shame and suicide. Both the shame the suicidal person feels before death, and the shame that those who were ignorant of the signs of impending suicidal people were. its about how suicide is taboo. if you are gonna say my analysis is bland or surface level, at least acknowledge what my claim is.

It's funny when people think they're clever writing a meta slasher. Being such a noob that meta slashers have been around since the 80s.
We need a meta meta slasher, where the cast is making retarded critiques and the slasher is brutally slaughtering them, and half way through as the kills get depressingly grim they start to panic and take it seriously.

Both Freddy and the Grabber refuse to be the first proud child molester villain. It's an angle waiting to happen.

>>
>>215187969
Yeah but that's all like additives and shit usually so they should be able to put it in soap. They do all kinds of weird chemistry shit to isolate tastes and smells so women can have expensive shit that smells of snow or peach skin or w/e they want to smell like. There's probably one for warm straw, I just don't know if whatever chemical makes that scent turns to wet hay when wet
Now I'm thinking about it, someone's bound to have made a gizmo soap which says to not get it wet and some autist collector here probably has a couple bars left in their wrapping

Lord of Illusions (1995) – This Excellent offering from master of horror Clive Barker begins *unforgettably* with a raid on a cult’s trashed-out compound in the Mojave desert, in which former cultist Swan, a magician with a massive forehead, comes to end the machinations of leader Nix -- a chubby, greasy sorcerer with great power. Swan fears Nix can’t really die . . . so after his old mentor is disabled by gunfire, Swan puts an ensorcelled iron mask on his face and buries him in the desert. Thirteen years later, Swan is using the *real* magic he learned from Nix to make it big in the L.A. illusionist scene. He’s the David Copperfield of this universe, and more! But elements of the dark past are stirring. Enter Harry D’Amour (Quantum Leap’s Scott Bakula), a private eye whose fate causes him to stumble, time and again, into supernatural conflict.

Every time I watch the movie, its textures become richer, its visual rhythms more MESMERIZING. That’s Clive Barker’s visual style, as first seen in Hellraiser: a silken progression of strange and shocking events, nothing *too* hurried, so the audience is never jolted into the next phantasmagoric scene or setpiece, but there’s a shift that at first seems slow . . . then before we know it, we are rapidly phasing from one insane, colorful thing to the next. It does not feel as if the movie ever abruptly CUTS, though this is certainly not a one-cut movie, or a “sit-and-stare” movie. It is nothing less than cinematic sorcery. We’re *strolling* to hell and taking in all there is to see! D’Amour and the slinky cultist Butterfield both move with such CAT-LIKE grace that they multiply this strange magic whenever they appear.

The traditional effects have aged wonderfully -- who can ever forget Swan’s Rain of Swords on the L.A. stage, or the grotesque INNER JELLY that people see in human beings after Nix has literally fingered their brains, much less the iron MASK OF BINDING that self-screws into Nix’s face? The CGI is quite a bit more crude, but there are only two brief, stark uses of it.

It is obvious this is a film in which an accomplished creator with *fully formed* ideas and images had his way.
