Long shot, but does anyone remember a flick that starts with a guy having a nightmare about his arm being cut off, waking up screaming, his arm still missing, then waking up for real, arm intact?
I think it's
>mid-to-late-90s, maybe early 2000s flick
>probably straight to video/tv
>plot's mostly about some bad CGI demons (I think with batlike wings) in a high school and/or church
>one of the characters is a priest who helps the teen protags

been ages since I've seen it on tv and trying to find the title for a while now. would appreciate any help if it rings a bell to anyone, thanks for reading.

While it is unquestionably the worst of the series Halloween Resurrection does has some positive aspects.

> Katee Sackhoff is fun in the film.
> Sara Moyer is a good final girl.
> Myers mask isn't perfect (still shows eyes too much) but much better then any from H20.
> Fuckawful Busta is almost worth it for his face when Myers effortlessly turns the tables against him, pic related.
> Some cool, creepy shots (myers looking down after getting hanged)
> Opening with Laurie is a lackluster end for the character but it's still a decent sequence.
> Score is better than H20.

SHARE CHANGES YOU WOULD MAKE TO A HORROR FILM OR SERIES!

(Halloween)

H2
> Give Jill more to do. She was adorable and likable.

H4
> Completely different better mask.
> Have Kelly Meeker get fully topless (Kinmont did so in plenty of other films)

H5
> Keep Rachel alive for tangibly longer & give her Tina's sacrificial moment.
> Show Rachel nude during her shower scene (we could faintly see bush through the curtain)
> If we are stuck with Tina then at least give her a nude scene getting into her Halloween dress.
> Keep the cut swat/national guard massacre in the film.
> Keep the cut police station massacre ending/Sheriff Meeker's Death in the film.
> Toss the cringy cop duo or at least the music that came with them.
> Make some adjustments to Myer's mask, make the neck & eyes be less huge.

H6
> Keep the Producer's cut's tone, style, score & ending.
> Pay Harris whatever she wanted to play Jamie again.
> Maybe have Jamie survive to the finale, sacrificing herself to save Danny. Kara reassures her she will keep the baby safe in her final moments.
> Give more screentime to show Loomis & Wynn's friendship.
> Explain why Wynn needed a successor, just a passing remark about having cancer would suffice.
> Tone down the mask neck size.
> Have Hagan get naked.
> Generally keep the Producer's cut version of the cult without much of the theatrical mad science elements but do specify that Jamie was artificially impregnated with a quasi clone of Myers not his child?

H20
> More time with Adam Arkin's character, he was really likable but underused.
> Do a better job with the score.
> Let us get to know the teen cast a bit more.
> Stick with the main mask but black out the eyes, tone down the giant forehead & make the hair less flared out.

Halloween Resurrection
> Remove Laurie being killed at the beginning. Have Myers infiltrate the asylum to kill her but it is revealed that she escaped a while ago.
> Have her come in to rescue the contestants during the final act and she teams up with Sara Moyer's character instead of Busta who is killed much earlier without the kung-fu sequences. Do keep the moment of Myers being hanged.
> Katee Sackhoff nudity.
> Get better more likable actors for some of the other roles.
> Black out Myer's mask eyes again.
> Explain what happened to Laurie's son.

Halloween (2018)
> Have Judy Greer or Rhian Rees do nude scenes in the film.
> Have Myers leave Ray's body on the front lawn so Allyson finds him & we see her emotional devastation.

Halloween Kills
> Do not have the mob massacre turn into a slow-mo fest once Myers turns the tables on them & do not have Laurie's monologue play over it.
> Tone down the hamfistedness of the mob mentality message.
> Have the scapegoated mental patient actually slightly resemble Myers in stature & have him wearing a Halloween costume when he shows up at the Hospital looking for help making it more understandable why the mob would mistake him for Myers.

Halloween Ends
> Have Myers preemptively massacre the police station as in H4 but actually on screen.
> Give the cool black Sheriff a futile badass last stand with a Spas-12 to tribute Meeker.
> Nudity from the redhead.
> Have Corey return Michael's mask & he goes back to using his own after the massacre of his bullies.
> Have Allyson discover how far Corey has has gone on her own and the finale is 2 battles: her vs Corey simultaneously while Laurie fights Michael.

I'm normally an advocate for sticking your dick in crazy, but this bitch is just too far gone. Not a bad film btw though it did seem to me that the ending came out of nowhere. Throughout the movie it is established that despite being clearly disturbed, the girl is still in touch with reality, so what the fuck made her think that she could successfully perform a lung transplant?

Yeah it's a really great ending. The setup is kind of in both camps of comedic and serious, but they end on an emotionally brutal note.

Been checking out this so-called /hor/ general, people tell me it’s about horror movies. Frankly, very boring stuff! They talk about the SAME 80s movies every single day, Evil Dead, Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, all terrible, all aged like milk. Total audio-visual disasters. Nobody’s talking about anything NEW, very sad!

And there’s this one guy, always posting Suspiria and that, let's be honest here, very ugly woman, he posts her over and over again. Folks, we get it. It’s colorful. It’s Italian. MOVE ON! The general would be doing much better numbers if he took a permanent vacation.

I prefer the TC, actually.
Kills is watchable, the Extended Cut especially, but the short fat guy mistaken for Michael is just nonsense. And I'll admit part of why I rate Kills lower is because it feels like it sets up a conclusion that never happens because of how wildly different Ends is, which I suppose is really a problem with Ends more than anything. I respect Ends overall because it's basically just Christine, except with an autistic murder-hobo instead of a haunted car.

This might be the first movie with a fakeout death that actually took me off guard in a long, long while.

No it's not good, no I don't recommend it, the CGI is jarringly bad even if some of the shots are nicely done and the concept itself is unique but done very little with. Still credit where credit is due, I was shocked they had the balls to not kill that someone off, especially considering what happened in the finale.

>any films you guys think had great plot devices but shit execution?

I know some people love it but Prince of Darkness always felt like it had a lot of squandered potential. Cool setup that you could do a lot with and some awesome scenes here and there but most of the movie is clunky characters aimlessly dancing around the central plot device of Satan's cum jar.
>>

pumpkinhead is ultrakino, i think most people here pumpkinhead.
are there any other kinos that lean heavily into southern gothic with witches in the bayou and such? that part only really featured for a couple scenes in pumpkinhead but it was so well done that i think about it all the time.

That russian Kraken movie had a fantastic idea with the lost submarine holding an unstable super weapon but I cannot think of a worse way they could've executed it besides convenient skybeam at the end and literally nothing else besides that.

They had a perfect setup with this absolutely gargantuan thing that dwarfs submarines and a potential superweapon in its grasp that could somehow be more dangerous and the end result is Oh well it shoots a big beamy thing... the end.

>>
Just got out. Has some cool elements, but gets so much fucking wrong. Way too schmaltzy. I think Mike Flanagan has been a very bad influence on other horror filmmakers. Like the last Conjuring, assumes were way more emotionally attached to these characters than it should, and puts their emotional struggles front and center, far more prioritized than entertainment value. The little boy from the first movie is terrible, but the sister is a good actress, despite getting some UNBELIEVABLY cringeworthy dialogue.
It's like J-horror take on a Freddy movie, if you get what I mean. Think word of mouth is going to sink this one after the first weekend.

This is what I meant when I said the movie became too aware of itself for the Conjuring 4. Same thing happened to the new Mission Impossible.

I guess what I mean is (spoilers) it's one of those movies that has the Ringu roadmap, it's all about hunting down the body of a restless spirit so that it can find peace, about following clues and visions. It puts atmosphere way above action. It might be the only horror movie I can think of where I'm pretty sure not a single character actually dies.

I liked it better than the first, but that is in no way a recommendation. I liked the setting and the photography, I like that The Grabber is supernatural now, I like Demian Bechir, I like Violet MacGraw's sister and that they've got a little horror dynasty built. But as a story it's dumb, and it's told with a lot of self-importance and some real embarrassing lack of self awareness. There are MANY moments that are supposed to come off as "badass" that fail miserably.

Evil Dead Trap?
One Missed Call is another.
I also like a bunch of the Junji Ito adaptions - Uzumaki (2000), Long Dream (2000) in particular.

Ends is irredeemable. Here's how I would do it, off the top of my head
>Michael is living in a sewer eating rats
>Laurie is wheelchair bound, side character at best
>Little girl (new character) discovers Michael passed out, basically incapacitated
>Little girl nurses him back to health, from a distance - she sometimes thinks he's dangerous but is unsure
>She gives Michael a pet. Unbeknownst to her he kills it.
>He then kills a stray homeless man, appearing to gain strength
>Girl brings back her older brother, whom Michael kills
>Girl now runs for her life with Michael in chase
>Chaos ensues around the town, Evil Dies Tonight.jpg
>The ending is a protracted war between Michael and Allyson
>Both are brutally wounded
>Michael goes through a series of horrific stabbings etc, and ends up in a river
>Before Allyson can kill him, he floats away while she screams as she wants resolution of his death
>The audience actually gets to see several scenes of further brutality of Michael has he goes over a cliff, is impaled by a branch etc. and finally, actually see his death as he's smashed on a rock
>At the end Laurie delivers a speech that life is not about resolution, it's about perseverance

Yeah, that movie reeked too much of feminist energy.

The only feminist energy I wanna see is the type that refuses to wear a bra

I've been doing 1930s universal monsters at the end of the night lately. A lot of them are only 70-80 minutes and I'm conked out snoozing around the hour mark. Very comfy.

Okay, this was fun.
Is Bride of Re-animator good, or should I just be satisfied with this as a stand alone?

last year was stacked, good or bad, there was a lot. this year pales in comparison to the point where a movie like weapons or sinners are unironically being touted as masterpieces.

I'm pretty sure a world where people didn't age would be a nightmare for him, since fixating on the fact that women lose their beauty over time is his preferred way of coping with their disgust toward him.

Just finished. Fuckin Frenchies, lol. I'm interpreting it as a plague movie, where the plague is death itself. Nice & disorienting.
