I watched Mirrors with Kiefer Sutherland in the cinema when I was like 13, and I was on a triple date with friends and the girl I was with got spooked and we made out and I grabbed her boobs. So when I was on an all boys school camp a couple years later when I was 15, we had a scary movie night and I suggested watching Mirrors. It was so much worse than I had remembered and some of the older 16 year old students beat the shit out of me. I guess because I had associated good memories with it I convinced myself it was a good film, but when I concentrated and actually watched it it was so bad that I got bashed.

So yeah probably Mirrors with Kiefer Sutherland.

ive seen films way more graphic than picrel, but this one disturbed me tbqh. it feels a tiny bit more real than others. im not entirely sure why, i think part of it has to do with the low budget and the restraint on the gore that comes with it.

the opening first ten minutes look like complete shit, genuinely some of the worst visuals i've seen from a big director like darabont. i've heard an anon say it's intended to be watched in b&w and everything looks better, and according to darabont, was intended to be seen that way, but i really don't believe that a studio would give darabont that much backing for a b&w movie in 2007. i'm sure it helps though

How would you have fixed/ended Halloween's Thorn Trilogy?

Time for my pointless brief thoughts on what I watched:

Starts off like a typical Asian school movie/show where there's some head bitch that can bully people and nobody dares stand up to her, then a new girl transfers in and might change shit. Once the horror kicks in, you get a vengeful ghost that does shit you'd see in a Final Destination movie. Those kills are actually unintentionally funny. There's a big reveal and the ending wasn't what I thought it would be. Overall, it's an above average horror movie.
>The Thing From Another World
I enjoyed this and was nice to have two villains, with the head scientist being the other. That 1950s feel is there, which I enjoy. Wish more came about from the scientist growing more creatures. Enjoyed the movie and would recommend it.

I love the old effect techniques that are used in these 50s creature movies. Just the amount they get done without CGI is always pleasant to watch. Not much to say about it, just a good 50s creature movie with a good plot, solid effects, and enjoyable destruction scenes.

Joy Ride is probably the most alike to The Hitcher
I saw Wind Chill recently enough to remember, it's setting is a lot more claustrophobic and less road-travel adventurous than Joy Ride.
Haven't seen or don't remember the others on that list.

The Wolf Man (2025) – A disappointing fizzle from Leigh Whannell, it’s a very weak Worth a Watch at the most. Let me get the good out of the way: Some of the shots are nice, like the POV during the U-Haul wreck. The acting is about what you’d expect from professional actors. The flashback opening from Blake’s childhood is *deceptively* exciting. Everything else, however, is just so boring and actually pointless. Basically, Blake rebels against his hard country upbringing by becoming a HOUSE HUSBAND to a bird-faced little woman who works as a big city journalist. One day, Blake gets a piece of mail informing him that his missing “chud” father has been declared dead after having gone missing a while back, and now he wants to go and reconnect with his old roots -- bringing that *weirdly* fragile bird woman and his daughter with him. Once back in rural Oregon, Blake is infected by the most BORING variant of lycanthropy you could imagine. There is no conditional immortality! There is no moon connection! There is no transformation back-and-forth! If you catch THE FACE OF THE WOLF (or whatever gay, pseudo-Indian thing the introductory text called it), you just turn into a perfectly *killable* savage beast and run around the woods until you die, I guess.

The most ridiculous thing about The Wolf Man -- and this is coming from a guy who DOES NOT mind female protagonists in horror films -- is that the *ultimate* hero is this ridiculous, tiny, stick-armed little bird-faced URBAN woman, who was initially scared out of her wits by some friendly Oregon redneck with a hunting rifle. Contrast this with some of the meaty and athletic chicks form the first two Friday the 13th movies, who actually *look* like they could get the job done with the right tools. Basically, the movie’s formula is this: MOST BORING WEREWOLF EVER + STRONG CITY WOMINK (with a stupid Q-tip haircut) DOES THE THING THE MEN CAN’T. (“Oh he is suffering mommy, can’t you see? He wants it to end!” Even the tiny little girl is shown as being more manly than the men in this! It’s too goofy to believe. As silly as it is, the original The Wolf Man (1941) is so much better.)

I need to watch Herzog's again since it's been forever. If memory serves that version had a real sense of dread and awe surrounding Nosferatu which is what this one seemingly wanted to do.

Together (2025) – A decent Worth a Watch that takes a little long to get where it’s going, and could have been more dynamically filmed. A hipster couple move out to the country, but there’s tension: Tim wants to hang around the big city lights and keep cracking at an indie rock career that’ s going nowhere, Millie wants to marry Tim and be a rural elementary school teacher. They make the move -- reluctantly on Tim’s part -- and on a hike in their new environs, end up stumbling into a big, veiny pit full of bells and pews with a cursed pool in the middle. They drink because they’re thirsty, and then their flesh starts to merge -- as if their two bodies desire to become one. They have to keep painfully forcing each other apart.

It actually takes most of the movie for this to be a serious issue for them, and though the acting is good all around . . . it’s just *annoying* to have to put up with the mundane trials and tribulations of a hipster couple that happen to be a few degrees glossier (in a cinematic sense) than the real deal. The final third of the movie is where the conceptual meat is, and it’s worth sticking around for at least once. The special effects are nice here, the CGI not overdone at all. Also, the ending is not what I expected . . . and in an *interesting* way! So it’s a pretty fair horror movie in the end, unbalanced on the hipster “day in the life” side, but with good ideas that are explored late, but better than never. (What I’d really like to see are some scenes explaining the faces melded with the cave, as well as a three-minute or so extension of the ending, just to show the reactions of some supporting characters.)

So the new Wolf Man blew, toxic masculinity bad, no silver allergy, no reverse transformation to bring complex DRAMA and UNEASE in between moon phases, and you can kill him with anything.

Right now The Wailing is boring me to death with its stupid fat cop and drawn-out scenes but I will finish it. (I liked Exhuma, by the way.) I don't get why this thing is so damned long.

Is there something I can watch tonight that's really good? Something newish? I've watched a lot of old stuff from the 1930s up to now this October, a lot of good stuff -- but I want something really, really good from the last few years, something The Substance-tier.
