>>
saw good boy last night
it was pretty good
my initial thoughts was that the film was going to be a lot more ambiguous as to whether not the dog would know what a ghost was, like the dog was like a metaphor for the audience watching schlocky horror pictures, but we understand within the first like 30 seconds that dogs just can see ghosts and this dog is an actual character carrying its own logic and motivation. movie also makes an effort to point out that this dog isn't special and the only that can see ghosts, all dogs can see ghosts.
well acted. really well shot, many scenes where they felt confident just pulling the camera really far away capturing everything in a very atmospheric way.
had a lot of stuff i don't think you'd really pay attention to or know how to interpret on an initial viewing, like the claw marks on the door leading up from the basement.
don't think i have much negative to say about it other than the story being kinda overly simple and that a lot of normies would probably find this kind of horror film boring, doesn't have an overabundance of jumpscares or scary monsters chasing characters around, just a lot of well placed shadows and silhouettes.
all in all a pretty good movie with a well executed plot with an ending that doesn't make you feel miserable

I'm not a normie but this was definitely edging on boring. 70% of it was the same "was that something in the background??" trope.
The dog was amazing but I thought it was wasted on a nothing-burger, borderline trauma horror. Also didn't like the negative ending.
I do agree though, it was surprisingly well shot, especially for a film that had to wrangle a dog to be it's lead.

How did you bear it? 5 is probably a marginally more competently made movie than 6 and Resurrection but I'd argue it's worse because it commits the cardinal sin - it's just fucking boring while at least 6 and Resurrection are amusing train wrecks.

5 literally has nothing going for it aside from Donald Pleasence putting in a good performance as batshit insane Loomis

i'm back from alucarda and overall, it was pretty solid. it kinda reminded me some hammer horror i've seen before. it had some pretty cool sets, especially the main hall with the back wall covered in crucified people, not sure if they were all meant to be jesus or not. my only real complaint is that they didn't spend enough time building alucarda and justine's relationship, they went from just meeting, to frolicking in the woods, to confessions of love and blood pacts in what felt like 5 minutes.

Just finished. You could choose worse for a live action adaptation of Vampirella than the director of Sorority House Massacre 2. Vampi's over the top sexiness is expectedly and unfortunately toned down, but she does still spend most of the movie in what is basically a fetish swimsuit (when she's not covered up by a trenchcoat.) Talisa Soto is beautiful but not the exaggerated voluptuous sexpot she would need to be to do the character justice. The premise is delightful cornball stupidity, making Vampi more or less Vampire Superman. She's an orphan from a vampire planet, and vampirism on Earth was installed by a Vampiric General Zod who colonized the planet milennia ago. Roger Daltry plays that villain, and he relishes in going all out as a pulpy sneering comic book villain. He even gets to wear the traditional Dracula cape during the climax. The plot is something to do with vampires blocking out the Sun using satellites so that they can finally conquer Earth, LMFAO
There's a HOT scene where Vampi is deprived of the artificial blood she subsists on and thrown into a dungeon with her human love interest, the villains fully conscious that after 24 hours without it, she'll revert to her animalistic vampiric state and bleed the human dry or die. She chains herself up to protect him, but eventually loses control and breaks her restraints, primally desperate to drain her boyfriend (ᵕ • ᴗ •)
I had a wholesome good time with this movie, and Vampirella still has a lot of potential as a property. I'm warily enthusiastic about Sydney Sweeney's upcoming take on Barbarella, but imho she should've set her sights on this space sexpot instead

oh I didn't know Junji Ito actually directed this one
>Tomio is a fun horror movie built on a simple premise—if Tomio takes his hands away from his head, then his head will fall off

Tomio was part of a trio of movies collectively referred to as the Kojuncha project. The name “Kojuncha” comes from the names of the three manga artists involved in the project: Shinichi KOga, JUNji Ito, and oCHAzukenori. Each of the artists wrote and directed a movie, and the three films were screened over consecutive days in 2011 at the Eurospace theater in the Shibuya ward of Tokyo.

Just finished. aka Captives, the far more obscure 3rd feature from the guys who made the Video Violence movies. >No, E.T. is not a reason for PG ratings; the film was released in 1982 and was rated PG. The PG rating existed before the film's release. There's arguably no comparable home video market in other parts of the world. Rental stores were perpetually starved for new video titles, and the constant need for new material is what allowed some Japanese directors to rack up these big numbers.
