Based on the premise I was expecting an entirely different kind of movie than the one I got. It's more of a supernatural mystery thriller than horror.The eventual climax that answered all the questions was a bit silly, but also smart, because till the end I had no real clue what exactly was going on and how they would explain it in the last 15 minutes. It's just a pity that besides some key moments it's was an excruciating slow and dare I say boring journey to eventually get there, and there wasn't enough pay off. It also isn't really 'solved' at the end, just a temporary escape the way I see it.

If anything, 2014 should be the start of "modern horror" as that's when The Babadook came out and a lot of movies have copied it. Pretty much popularized the trauma-horror genre.
