That does suck ass. Like look at that shot, rotating around in the air while CGI unfolds. I know it's got trailer music over it but be 10x more effective if it was a more static shot and practical effects like a sped up timelapse or something.

Another one coming up. Clayface, apparently a dc villain horror. I'm guessing they're trying to do horror from capeshit like they did a taxi driver from Joker.
>The story centers on an actor who injects himself with a substance to remain relevant, only to find out that he can reshape his face and form, becoming a walking piece of clay.

Depends on what you accept as horror but Twin Peaks and The Prisoner are the two greatest shows ever made
>>
>>217870694
its not bad. it just kind of retreads a little by season 3 like these sort of shows always do because there is no plot planned and they are just doing weird shit and trolling you every episode. mystery box slop. but its not bad at all for what it is. yeah, having the black guy as the 'main' character will put people off but hes great and its more of an ensemble cast anyway

>Fenton, possibly seeking to stop others who had received visions like his father's (or possibly simply having gone insane), had grown up to become the actual God's Hand serial killer, and was responsible for several murders
Did the movie ever imply this? Seems more like some guy on wikipedia was trying to pin rationality onto it rather than anything that was actually present in the movie's text. Wish whoever wrote this would come up with why FBIman murdered his own mom too.
>>

Just finished. Any horror with Lauren LaVera is an instant watch for me, just because I like that she's leaning into her scream queen brand, but most stuff she's in SUCKS. I hate Bousman, though, always do. The script for this is horrible, completely nonsensical. The heroes are assholes and the villain is much easier to root for. It's very predictable, it looks cheap, its visual style is embarrassing and dated (not in an intentional way.) Good cast and that's the only thing it has going for it. Crap.

pretty good, the zombies looked disgusting and the sounds they made were unnerving and creepy
didn't fully buy the whole "unfinished business" part. daisy's melancholic character went well with the male's don't give a fuck attitude.did what all good zombie movies do best in that it focused more on the social dynamics between the characters with the zombies acting as more of a backdrop. it did have some of the usual zombie flick tropes but overall it had good cinematography, good acting, great sound design, good special effects, and a decent explanation towards the dead coming back to life (electromagnetic pulse from the nuclear bomb fries their brain in a certain kind of way that otherwise shouldn't be possible)
as for the story it's a character study of a woman traveling to find the body of her husband after a nuclear fire mishap done by the US government that triggers the dead to come back to life
if you don't care for sentimental stories about loss then i'd watch it just for the good zombie design

Just watched Dagon after seeing anons on here post about it for years, it was alright. The village itself and the villagers were all really well done, I can definitely see why people say RE4 felt inspired by it because watching Paul run away while they shout after him in Spanish felt super similar to that game. I wasn't sure if the Spanish was meant to be understood because Tubi subtitles didn't translate it but I figured it helped make the audience feel like Paul, an outsider who can't understand what the people hunting him are saying. I loved the environments and effects, the action and acting was all pretty cheesy but I didn't mind because I grew up in the 90's and I remember a ton of movies and shows felt similar to that. The fact that like 50% of the movie is just focused on Paul sneaking around felt really unique, I've never seen a movie before where a large portion of it is continuously watching one character try to survive a dangerous situation with minimal editing or time skipping around. The ending felt kinda rushed and half assed though, the hobo (Enrique or something, I couldn't remember his name) feeling some sort of friendship with Paul because he...threatened him with a pocket knife into giving him his life story was a bit strange, and the scene where he gets skinned alive was almost comical because of how little he reacts to what should be a horrible way of dying. The reveal that Paul is actually the long lost son of the head of the Dagon worshipping cult felt completely random and out of nowhere, I know at the beginning he mentions with his girlfriend that his ancestors are from Spain but like, what the fuck are the odds? There's no real resolution at the end, evil wins, but that's on brand for Lovecraft.

Having tits everywhere except showing the ones belonging to the hot milf at the start is unforgivable though.

I'm not sure if Altered States is really considered a horror movie, but does anyone have any recommendations for more stuff like it? Not really looking specifically for "whoa psychedelic drug trips gone bad" but looking more for "whoa science/researcher dudes doing science stuff and shit gets weird" type movies. I enjoyed the dialogue in Altered States a lot, I like when professionals/trained/smarty pants people use science words instead of litanies of profanity.

The brood, beyond the black rainbow, firestarter and scanners have that vibe of esp institute or psychology hospital in wich weird things happen. Many movies back then showed the supernatural from a serious and scientific point. Ive seen japanese movies from the 80s and 90s that also had esp like a totally normal thing that goberments and colleges were investigating. It seemed like the next frontier of science and not just paranorma wacky stuff, and the characters reacted like it was mundane "oh you are an esp professor, please come inside". Obviously some movies do that today too but I feel there was a particular feeling back then, maybe more people believed it, growing up with all that indigo children stories.

I've stumbled upon and watched 'about a place in kinki' the other day thanks to some twitter account that randomly post gofile/transferit kine link everyday.
Thoughbeit the movie itself is interesting and directed by koji shiraishi (director of noroi, occult, grotesque) on top of that, but I have to say that this movie is underwhelming as a whole.
I'm not expecting a twist, didnt want that thing either; what I want is something that is engaging - something that'll hooked me up on this entire matter continously. But then, the movie itself never moved away from its exposition until the last 20 minutes of its 90 minutes runtime. So you'll spend more than half of this movie watching the two protagonists doing in-house investigation inside archival room in his office, trying to tie everything up from an already existing data (videotape, cd, usb drive, some streamer footage) that are being compiled for around 20 years old regarding this weird phenomenon of mysterious thing in kinki region, before the plot moved on into an actual investigation and conclusion that are being pulled in a short, rather rushed, timeframe
Is this movie good? For modern standard, maybe, since modern slop are bad anyway. But if you're expecting something in the level of noroi or occult, well... lower your expectation

>>217887471
the movie follows the four act structure more than his older films which could make things feel more like exposition dumps
the structure makes it easier for the audience to get to know the characters of the film while setting up a twist towards the end that serves to recontextualize everything the story's told you up to that point, compared to a three act structure that's more in service in setting up a climax for the story
i recommend reading the LN, or the web novel, it offers some well needed explanations as to what's going on in the seemingly anthological clips

>>217887741
I dont know how to put it, but presenting external information and content through generational video footage and moving the main plot itself as minimum as possible makes the entire exposition feels endless. If watching this movie is like watching someone building a house, then you spend 70 minutes of it watching the workers laying the ground foundation while the rest 20 minutes is a timelapse of them building the house itself.
As for the novel, I havent read that thing evendoe I've seen it everywhere, but I think if you put these concept in a form of epistolary text (for the video footage) and normal narration (for the main plot) inside a novel medium, it could work. But if you tried to construct the movie with this method, it lessen the involvement of main protagonist to move the plot forward. That's my personal critique in here.

FUCK you, this was a 5/10 and not even a "horror" 5/10 because it's NOT A HORROR MOVIE, even as an Australian I can't support it
>the "horror"
ASS, a couple of instantly forgettable scenes inserted to meet what feels like a quota
>the drama with the husband
ASS, not even the smallest piece of emotional catharsis upon reaching him and such a fucking hackneyed "Viking burial"
>the zombie woman giving birth to a healthy baby
ASS, completely unnecessary and added nothing, at least 28 years later did a little something with it

It's like it couldn't decide

Not that it was 100% bad
The initial cleanup scenes were good enough
The movie looked good at times
The world was authentic, that's Australia right there
The soldier subplot was serviceable
Would've been more interesting to look into the political aftermath of the US genociding 500,000 people and their dogs

You'll quickly notice he says that about every horror movie that isn't supernatural because he's going by the original definition that was in use long before he was a sperm cell in his dad's nutsack. Although I wonder if it was ever really the "original" definition considering film critics back in the 40s would describe movies like Gaslight, The Woman in the Window and Phantom Lady as horror/terror movies and none of them are supernatural at all.

I wish we lived in the timeline where Se7en was officially considered a horror movie just like the writer and director intended when they made the damn thing. You can literally Google Se7en right now and the two main genres listed will be crime/horror and it's a consistent mainstay in the They Shoot Zombies Don't They? list which compiles data from over 4000 online horror lists and gets updated annually: https://letterboxd.com/jhillman/list/they-shoot-zombies-dont-they-the-1000-greatest-10/

Se7en is commonly considered a scary movie but it's just not considered horror specifically because of asinine reasons like not enough gore, jump scares and killings. The 1980s really conditioned people hard into this way of thinking.

Weisz looks surprisingly good for her age but they should just killer her off. Mainly because too many legacy characters bog down movies while they're trying to stuff new ones in.

The sloth scene is an insane jump scare

Assuming it's the anime, the trailer made me laugh. Something about the NYAAA and bug rape. I'm sure the violence was creepy though. Something about getting eaten by a bug.
Some of the bug scenes in Return to Silent Hill were good, when they all pressed against the glass. Makes me think you could do a decent bug swarm film.

Imo the length was justified because first half was haunting and second turned into a monster feature and both parts were well done.

The anime was actually below mid and toned down heavily, the manga kicked ass in terms of gore and sex slop but the scanlator stopped and the author is on and off hiatus

I just feel like every Korean horror kino has to be so fucking long between this and The Host and Parasite. I miss an hour and a half movies at this point.

Hippos are responsible for the most amount of yearly animal related deaths in Africa like way more than rhinos and lions combined, they're actually incredibly dangerous despite how cute and docile they look.

That's every movie these days. Digital cameras have made it especially easy to just keep shooting and edit in as much footage as possible. Directors get carried away with it

That's completely fair, I thought it was insane when James Cameron talked del Toro into cutting his Frankenstein when he was making another 3 hour long Avatar movie
