Missed on first watch that the reason Arlan is on a bender in the flashback is because his nephew and squire was just killed in the battle.
They could have made it longer. It least the last two episodes. Cutting out the smallfolk backing Dunk was a huge mistake. And we should have had a little bit of time for Dunk's team to bond. Or, barring that, given them a better introduction earlier in the season. They also probably should have padded that battle sequence out a little more. It was great. Maybe the best fight sequence in the ASOIAF shows. Very well executed, but I think you could have shown us a little more of what was happening with the other fighters, although I am kind of conflicted on that. I don't know. It feels like the show should be longer, but every time I think about them adding something, it doesn't seem like it would work. So I don't fucking know, asshole. Fuck off.

They really overdid the fight, yeah Dunk is supposed to get fucked up in the initial charge because he has no practice with jousting but in both the short story and the comic he took one morningstar blow to the head which gave him a concussion and a bloodied eye then absolutely manhandled Aerion in under a minute before dragging him over to yield. Like the knife that ended up jammed through his palm was backhanded into the dirt as it was being drawn and the entire swordfight was extra content.
