The World book is quite literally trying to tell the reader that Valyria took the magic of the ‘Deep Ones’, ‘Naga’, etc, the same way the Grey King did, except on societal scale. The ancestors of the Hightowers beat back the “dragons” that originally roosted on the foundations of the Hightower. Those dragons would have predated Valyria. Naga was a god damned sea dragon. The Grey King took Naga’s “living fire” and cast aside the Seastone chair (why else would he do this if not to discredit its original builders?) and made his own seat. Why the FUCK is this so hard to understand? Places like Lorath, the Thousand Isles, Toad Isle, etc, didn’t fare so well. They actually lost. I don’t know why people want to pretend that there was some earlier not!Valyrian empire when nothing points to it.
